  1. wow great thread...thanks for starting it!

I would like to make the trek to the graves and lighthouse point but I will be with 3 kids (one of which will be almost 2)...think it's doable?? If I take the road back will I know when to stop to reach the tenders??

    THANKS!!

The distance is not far, the walk is not hard, but I think the kids would be bored with such a walk. Half of the walk is on a little road parallel to the beach so it's not real interesting. If they are into history and have the ability to imagine how a funeral took place at the edge of the beach, it might be interesting to them. Once you make it there, it will be obvious how to get back.

To get a little more info, check out my post #165.

  2. It is easier to find by walking close to the beach. It's a bit rough, but not too bad. Then take the "road" back.

I don't know how easy it is to see from the road. Walking along the water, it's easy to see.

    Good luck!

I know I couldn't see the road (dirt path) from the grave site but I don't know if the grave site can be seen from the road. I only used the road to get around the very rocky part of the beach since I was barefoot. With water shoes, I too probably would have stayed on the beach.

  3. Thanks so much! We will give it a try in January I guess we just did not walk far enough.

If you look at my post #165, the first pic show the south end of the Princess beach and the point I'm referring to. It's about another 300m past that point, either by the beach (with very good water shoes on) or via the road about 10m up from the beach (once you hit the rocky part of the beach, water shoes also help here as well). After about 100m or so on the road, you'll need to get back to the beach, the purpose of the road is to avoid the worst rocky part of the beach. I was able to do this barefoot but stepped on a few cuckleberries (ouch).

  4. From what I remember, I havent read this in a while, but I followed it for quite a while. I remember many people writing here that you need to wear good shoes because you have to PASS a really rocky spot in order to finally get to the graves. Now, I also read on this thread that you can walk along the road to get there, but I dont know how you would know you arrived. I was thinking in this thread was a google earth map. Id read back and see if you can get more info. Ive read its a really long walk though.

Facing the island, I believe you go wayyyy to the right. I want to say I read 3 miles. Could be wrong.

It's actually only about 1 mile from where you get off the boats but it takes awhile to get around rocks and such.

  5. okay -- please help!!! We got off the ship -- faced the island from the dock and walked along the shore going RIGHT. We got all the way around the corner -- tough going -- got rocky -- and could not find the rocks -- can someone please help us -- the directions say to go past the volleyball courts -- but there are courts to the right and to the left.

Okay. When you get off the ship and are on land, you turn right, go over the little bridge and all the way down the beach to the rocky point (200m??). That is the end of Princess beach area. The beach is then very rocky and we found it easier to move inland about 10m to a small dirt road. Continue following that southward, parallel to the beach for another 100m or so. You then work you way back out to the beach (you are now past the really rocky part) and another 20m and you will see the grave site to your left, right at the edge of the beach/woods.

  6. For some reason, the CD on the Liberty in June leaves on 11 Jun (Jen) but it shows no replacement for the rest of June. Go figure, our cruise is on 18 jun so I guess we'll still have to wait and see. Wouldn't change my plans in the slightest as the only active CD that I recall is John but it would be nice to know who it's going to be.

  7. I was on a Norweigen private island and Norweigen built stuff on the island for cruise passengers to find while exploring... I wouldn't be surprised if this was done by Princess just as an attractions and something to get us excited about..

    Just my 2 cents

I'm sorry you feel this way, but I have been to the site and it is NOT as you suggest. It is not part of the Princess area and would be difficult to get to for most older or tender footed cruise passengers. Feel free to look at the pictures I posted earlier in this thread. The reason for the location is because the island is very rocky and it was impossible to dig down deep enough by hand anywhere but at the edge of the ocean in the old days. Now, with modern equipment, it is not an issue which is why you don't see this anymore.

  8. It's not a far walk up the beach (hang a right when you get off the tender, go over the little bridge and go about 1/4 mile). When you get to the rocky area on the beach you can cut up to the dirt road that's next to the beach....easier than picking your way around the rocks (IMO). Yes, they do have a beautiful resting area and this is something you don't get to see on every cruise....I'm glad we took the time to go and pay our respects...it was a beautiful, peaceful walk with my wife.

Oh, and whoever "B + J" are....your heart is still on the beach as of July 2010 (Emerald Princess cruise).

  9. I'll assume the only part where shoes are really needed for this walk is for going over the rocky parts. Is the rest of the walk on the beach doable bare footed or are there rocks all over the place so shoes are needed for the entire trip?? I'll be doing this trek in Jul 2010 on the Emerald.

  10. The email that was provided to ask for the pins, can you email asking for a pin from your very first cruise??? I am hoping we get one from our cruise in April on Elation. Another question, will we just get one, or get one for each of us??

Sure, you can always ask. The worst they can do is say no (which would be highly unlikely as they want to keep you as a valued customer which isn't worth losing over a small pin). For me, the only pin I've actually received WAS from my first cruise, but since I don't collect them, it doesn't matter to me to not have received anymore.

J.R. - Pin is inbound to your coordinates as of 0945 this morning. Enjoy!:)

  12. I did not receive one on the only RCCL cruise I have been on. But then again, I've been on 3 Carnival cruises and only received a pin on the very first one, so maybe RCCL has them and they may be for Crown & Anchor guests?!? Try calling or emailing them to find out.

Don't worry about the postage, 39 cent stamp should cover something as light as that. I will get it out to you this weekend. If you want to sell or trade down the road, don't worry about me, a gift is a gift to use as you wish. I just hope you can get some enjoyment out of it as it has been sitting on my dresser for over 4 years and I glad someone will be happy having it. Enjoy! :)
