So would you say there is no need for car rental in Halifax?  I have a car rented to go to Peggy's Cove, but now I'm thinking it may not be necessary.

We had a wonderful day with a rental car. It was easy to pick it up and return it near the port. We drove out to Lunenburg and walked the waterfront and Old Town Lunenburg which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. We shopped, and enjoyed some lobster and fish and chips at the Fish Shack (very friendly staff and great food). Then we drove out to Peggy's Cove. On our way, we spotted a beautiful memorial which is about three miles before you get to the lighthouse. It honors the people who perished in 1998 on a Swissair flight and also has views of Peggy's Cove. Yes, Peggy's Cove is extremely touristy but the drive and landscapes and food along the way were magnificent. On the drive back we stopped for another lobster near Peggy's Cove but not at it from a U-Cook Lobster Truck. Great day!

While reading another post as well as some menus, I noticed that Bar Harbor has a lot of blueberry foods and drinks. What other (non-alcoholic) items would you recommend?

So far I have the following:

    1. Blueberry pie

    2. Blueberry soda

    3. Blueberry lemonade

Blueberry Ice Cream and Blueberry Sundaes!!!

We are due for the November 9th Rotterdam out of Fort Lauderdale.  Is it true that masks are once again going to be required around on the ship ??

While the people on board for the transatlantic were required to wear masks for the first several days, the passengers and crew no longer have to wear masks. The Captain announced that a couple of days ago. Masking requirements are subject to change at any time, unfortunately.

"Hi! Looking for advice or suggestions, if anyone else has been in this situation.

About a month ago my parents booked a 2 week Alaska cruise on the Royal Princess leaving June 11.  They booked an inside accessible cabin (the last one available as far as we could tell) because my mother has mobility issues and travels with a scooter.  They promptly filled out the Mobility Questionnaire and emailed it to the access office.  Within the first week of booking they logged into the Princess site and they had been "upgraded" to an obstructed balcony cabin NON-ACCESSIBLE.  My mother immediately contacted Princess by telephone who advised her that there were no longer any accessible cabins available (they had already sold their cabin to someone else!) and to contact the access office (which she had already emailed and not heard back from).  She emailed them again telling them she had booked an accessible cabin for a reason and was moved without being contacted.   She phoned again. No answers. ..."

Do you know if your parents answered the question agreeing or declining to be upgraded when booking? If they said "no upgrades" that will be helpful. Unfortunately, due to the limited number of accessible rooms, they reserve the right to reassign those rooms. If they didn't think her scooter would fit in the inside stateroom overnight for charging, they would reassign her. (They don't let people leave them in the hall anymore.) if your parents used a TA, they should reach out to that person to advocate on their behalf. Good luck!

Yes, you can, but we’ve found it much easier lately to just pre-order their water package, since we don’t have to hassle trying to get in on ourselves. It is $6.90 for 12 bottles, and it will be in your room by the time you board  or shortly thereafter.

Hi!  I was about to order it and noticed it said "bottled water" and it didn't indicate whether or not it is "spring water".  Do you happen to remember if the 12 pack was "drinking water" or "spring water" and what brand it was?  Thank you!

And before anyone indicates it shouldn't matter and I should just bring a water bottle...I have severe allergies and have to know even what is in my water. 😨 So, please don't flame me. Thanks.

....I brought jeans even though I'm not much of a jean wearer, I thought they would be more appropriate than the more activewear style bottoms that I typically wear, especially for the MDR, and I wore them once? ...

Are you saying it was warm enough for shorts? By activewear style bottoms do you mean leggings? When did you wear or jeans or what kind of pants did you end up wearing? Thanks!

  7. Hi all!  Has anyone done the trip from Whittier to Valdez (or in reverse) in the last couple of years? There is a lot of great information in this thread, but, looking for an update on the ferry, the places you stopped to eat and "sight-see" between Valdez and Copper River, and any other tips for stays at the Princess Copper River Lodge? Thanks in advance!

  8. Hi Diana - I didn't forget you but I need to scan what he did before I can send it to you.

Hi Diana - I just you some scans. I hope they help. Also, check out the cards on celiactravel.com. I carry them in every language on the ship because you never know where your server might be from! Have fun on your cruise!

  9. For any recent Equinox cruisers that have had Blu as their dining room--is there escargot available in Blu on the menu. Just trying not to get my hopes up! Or I guess we will have to dine in the MDR one night.

If you let your Blu server know what you want from another restaurant they will do their best to get it for you. For example, I once craved eggs benedict and they don't serve heavy sauces like that in Blu. The next morning, the server showed up with my eggs benedict! Ask and you shall receive! (within reason of course!)

  10. I hope everything you said about your cruise continues on. I have been getting worried because of some of the things I have been reading here on CC. I would love for Reflection to live up to our previous Celebrity cruises. But the cynical side of me says the fact that there were enough service staff working a holiday cruise that the CEO and his family and the Captain's family were on is not surprising. It's called "good planning"!

  11. I have a gluten intolerance, so I was wondering if X has hard ciders on board, and if it would fall under the price cap of the classic package? Does anyone know? Thanks. :)

We just did a lot of research about gluten and the various drinks Celebrity serves including the various drinks of the day and Molecular Bar. If you private message me I can share. We just looked at some of the recent photos of the menus and then researched the brand online.

  12. I also talked to Dave last night. I sent my e-mail a couple of hours before, so it was a very quick response. But be forwarned...he may be slow at responding for the next week or so. We just flew into Indiana from Alaska to pick up a new van/bus (12 seater I believe) in Elkhart. He is driving it back to Alaska So, he warned me he may be out of touch depending on his ability to get internet wherever he is staying. He said the best way to reach him is by his cell until he is back. Or leave an e-mail or voice mail and he will respond as soon as he gets service. I like the idea of a sparkly new van/bus!!!:)

  13. I enjoyed reading every minute of your travels so far! Makes me even happier that we already booked our Fairbanks to Vancouver adventure for 2010 already...though ours is not as long as yours. I can't wait to read the rest! Thanks for sharing...

For all of you dreaming about the adventures you are reading about, come join our roll call... June 29 Fairbanks, July 3 Coral Southbound 2010.:)

Can you leave the kids to the ship on port days? (If they don't like to go for sightseeing?

"Can" you or "should" you? Can you? Sure you can. Should you? I wouldn't. Before I get flamed, I worked in the children's center on board for two years. The center staff takes great care of the kids and the kids generally have a great time. But only you know your kids. Will they miss you/need you? If so, you are not going to be available. What would happen if you were to miss the ship? Your kids would be on board with no family. What would happen if something were to happen to you while onshore? I think if you were cruising in the Caribbean or Mexico I would be less worried but if you are doing the Baltics there are so many variables and you are very far from home and any other relatives. Is anyone else you know traveling with you? You might try it in Tallinn, because it is pretty easy to get back to the ship but I would not let my family split up in St Petersburg. Some cruise lines prohibit leaving the kids on board and some even close the center while in port. Last I checked Princess did not do that. Princess does have some excursions that are specifically for families and several of the guide books do list family friendly things to do in port. You may want to check those out, if you haven't already. Remember these are my personal opinions based on my experiences as a childrens center cruise staff member and as a parent who travels with kids. You have to do what is right for you and your family though, no matter what any of us on these boards think. Have a great trip!

  15. While I see this comparison as a bit of a slap (cheap food, poor service, etc...) I will have to say at least one good comparison...

Denny's is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 364 days a year...(remember the flack when Denny's decided to close for Christmas, and discovered that to do so would create a major hassle....because they did not have LOCKS on the doors since they never shut down.)

On Carnival at any given moment there are thousands of ways to have fun...24 hours a day....7 days a week!!

I didn't mean it as a slap, why did you take it as one? I wrote Denny's -- you read "poor service". Not what I meant at all...I meant: reliable and family oriented, not stodgy or pretentious, just good ol' american style.

  16. I always use the following analogies:

    Carnival: Denny's & Saturn

NCL: Old Country Buffet & Chevrolet

Royal Caribbean: Olive Garden & Honda

    Celebrity: Macaroni Grill & Acura

    Princess: Bravo & BMW

Cunard: Capital Grille/Ruth's Chris & Mercedes

    However, while there are plenty of cars I don't like, I haven't met a cruise I didn't like!:D

P.S. Sorry if the restaurant analogies are regional....

  17. Linda,

I was an adult when I sailed in the 80's. Although I didn't use the youth programs, I was very happy you were there to take care of them...LOL..and keep them out of our hair. :) Those were the days.

    Cindra

You're welcome...I loved keeping them out of your hair! :) Remember the food?...the service? the chocolate souffles? real caeser salads made at the table? YUMMMMMMM
