  1. We actually never let the door close on its own , We have made a habit to hold the door until its closed ... unfortunately with some doors it does not make it any less loud , but at least we have tried being considerate to the other cabins

Sometimes we do sometimes we don't but we never SLAM the door.

  2. As expected....

It's not "rules", it's being courteous. Don't let doors slam, it's pretty easy to accomplish, doesn't cost you a cent, any additional time, nothing...

Your cabin is cleaned twice a day, so the dishes, at most will be in your cabin for 6-8 hours. If there are room steward's carts in the hall you can place the dishes there. Even better, ask your room steward what you should with dirty dishes. I'm certain they won't say put them in the hall outside your door.

You seem to say you're going to do what you want, even though others suggest a better way. That says a lot.

As I said we do not SLAM doors. We simply go out the door and let it close.

Your opinion of what is better is just that, your opinion. Thank you for sharing it with us all. That says a lot.

  3.

What is the theme related to picking up and washing dirty dishes? Also not grossing out your fellow passengers who have to look at your mess and getting in the way of handicapped people? Cleanliness? Tidiness? Consideration? How to not be an obnoxious neighbor on a cruise ship?

Sorry, my fat fingers struck an extraneous key, it was obviously intended to say THEM. Thanks for allowing me the opportunity to correct that for those who could not figure it out without adult supervision.

Seriously, seeing a dirty plate grosses you out?

  4. It's okay to be uninformed about something, but then you learn a better way.... So it's not okay to just let the door slam "on it's own". It's easy enough to stop it from slamming then pull it closed that last little bit, so as not to disturb your neighbors with a loud slam.

Leaving trays/dishes in the hall is not right, even if you see it all the time. The hallways are too narrow. Leave the dishes in your cabin, there is always room on the bed, couch, table, counter or somewhere (bathroom sink). It is a hazard for folks using canes/walkers.

I know one poster in particular will post that they don't care about other people and will ALWAYS continue to do what they have done. They obviously don't feel the desire to better themselves with knowledge.

So unless someone lives by your rules they need to 'learn a better way'?

Sorry but I do not want dirty dishes on my bed (no couch or table),

the counter is already being utilized, and I use the bathroom sink like most people who practice good hygiene.

Are you talking about yourself? Based on your entire post basically saying my way or you are wrong, that seems to be the case.

  5. It's not common practice, it's just gross. Why would anyone want to look at someone's dirty dishes in a hallway? I don't like seeing them in my sink, I sure don't want to see them in a narrow hallway on a cruise ship. How about you feel free to dispose of them properly? How hard is it to get someone to take them away?

I don't dispose of dirty dishes. That is wasteful. I put them in the hallway for theme to be picked up washed and used again, all nice and proper, and easily taken away by anyone!

  6. Hi all! Just booked my first ever cruise through CAS. I’ve been compulsively reading the boards and have gotten so much great info. I travel often (just never by boat up until now) so naturally I wanted to check out any rewards programs available. I’m going to sign up for Latitudes but I was curious how that plays with CAS? I know often one program will nix the benefits of another. Will there be any Latitude benefits to look out for with this trip or is it really only beneficial further down the line with higher status?

You still will not be traveling by boat. You will be traveling by ship! :)

  7. I get the tightness of the cabins, but it really is bad to see plates and dirty linens in the hallway. Find space in your cabin, or call someone to come get them.

I never mentioned linens. If you do not like the dirty plate being by my door, then by all means feel free to pick it up and take it to the buffet as you walk by. It is common practice to do that everywhere I have been.

  8. That's what I thought. It seemed one would hold the door for the other then just let it go. It was a family of 4 so 2 would go, let the door close or "slam" then the other 2 would follow. I guess not a huge deal but still kind of rude.

Rude to use a door, seriously?

  9. Letting the door close on its own is slamming the door!

Somehow I get the idea that you actually do believe that!

According to you then, about 90% of the people in the world slam a door every time they go through it. Please save yourself aggravation and do not boo a cabin next to us. :D

  10. I understand weather is not controllable. But our helicopter excursion landing on a glacier was canceled this morning about 20 minutes before we were to leave. Luckily, we booked the small boat excursion up Tracy Arm today as well. When we went for our meeting time to board the boat, crew said they canceled that too. This one was mechanical. All in all, a complete waste of a stop in Juneau. The weather I get. Mechanical issues that you find out about at the time of check in is not ok.

As most of you know, there are only 3 Alaska ports on this sailing. Today was a complete waste. This was the port that my family and I most looked forward to.

It sure what else we could have done. No advance warning for either. Left us completely without plans.

Uh why? A mechanical issue can be discovered at any time INCLUDING right before an excursion is to start.

  11. What do you do in an event of noisy obnoxious neighbors? Can you call front desk or somebody to complain or would you ask them to be more considerate first?

We have never had this happen on all three cruises we have taken but never sailed NCL and with "open bar" I am a bit worried it will be a booze cruise.

I am okay with kids noise (to an extend) , but grown ups not being considerate I cannot tolerate lol

Why would anyone extend noisy kids? :D

  12. All you have to do is call room service to pick them back up. That is what you are supposed to do. Not just throw them into the hallway for others to trip on because you don't have room for the dirty dishes you ordered.

That is what YOU CHOOSE to do. I don't use room service, I did not order anything. Besides I don't "just throw them in the hall", I sit them right up next to my door. Sorry if you are so clumsy with your walking.

  13. We had a family of door slammers next to us on the Getaway. Every they went in or out they slammed the door. There were 4 in the family and they always went 2 at a time. So annoying.

Slamming a door is intentionally forcefully closing the door or physically making an effort to close a door loudly. Going out of your cabin and letting the door close on its own is not slamming a door. Solid doors sometimes make noise when they close.

  14. There's no reason for anyone to leave their trash in the hallway.

I ALWAYS put my finished plates and such out by my door. There is not much counter space in the cabins and what little there is gets used by things other than dirty dishes that I no longer need in my cabin. That is plenty reason right there.

  15. That's just not true.

The six dollar minimum on all the ships have CSM.

Pretty sure the same goes for most ten dollar minimum.

It's not until the fifteen dollar tables that you'll reliably get a regular shoe that only gets shuffled at the end of the shoe.

You can check lots of CC threads that confirm this.

Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Forums mobile app

Oh well I guess I played at different times than others.

  16. There is usually one table that deals from a shoe and the odds are even lower on these tables all the rest have auto shuffle. And I have been on most of those ships.

On all of the ships I mentioned they use a multi-deck shoe for all blackjack

  17. had decent luck although I really hate auto shufflers which they use and shuffle after every deal. I am no card counter in any way but you do get some kind of idea what may be coming with a shoe. I love blackjack but dont play a lot on the ships, more craps

They used a multi-deck shoe on every NCL cruise I have sailed and reshuffle by hand only when the marker is reached. No idea what ship you were on, but Spirit, Jewel, Getaway, Sun, Dawn, Gem, Epic, and Escape use neither auto shufflers nor every deal shuffling.
