  1. The unwanted guest will show up soon. And sadly you'll have to learn a little bit more about my personal medical info before we get there. It is HIPAA, by the way. Not HIPPA. Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996. But I trust you all with this information. I know you'll keep it in the strictest of confidence. That's what we as a Cruise Critic family do, right?

You are correct and, dang, I really like you from your posts!

  2. Due to a medical/hospitalization issue with DH we had to cancel our December cruise 4 days prior to sailing. We had taken out the Carnival Vacation Protection – about 10% of the cost of the cruise.

Between Carnival refunding taxes and port fees (got that credited from CCL within 1 1/2 weeks) and the insurance company we have gotten everything back except for the cost of the insurance within 1 month of applying.

Well worth the cost of the insurance for having to cancel 4 days before sailing!

We have a jewel of a TA who opened the claim for us, had them e-mail the proper forms and she sent copies of the papers I needed to send in with the claim as proof. DH had Dr appointments within 2 weeks and their office was kind enough to fill out their sheet in a timely manner.

Here was what the policy CCL offers covers:

    • · If you need to cancel for some of the most common reasons (severe weather, illness, etc.) you'll get 100% of the cost of your trip back, in cash. If you need to cancel for any reason not covered by the plan — any reason at all — you'll get 75% back in a Future Cruise Credit Certificate.

    • Trip Delay: Up to $500 for "catch-up" expenses like meals, hotel and transportation
    • Baggage: Up to $1,500 if your stuff is lost, stolen or damaged, and up to $500 reimbursement if you have to buy necessary items while your bags are delayed 24+ hours
    • Medical: Up to $10,000 if you get sick or injured on your vacation
    • Emergency Evacuation: Up to $30,000 for emergency medical evacuation and repatriation

I really appreciate this post. Glad to hear he cane through well. Did you enjoy your May cruise?

I just now (within minutes) purchased our coverage. I hope we don't need it but I feel better we have it.

  3. I was relieved to see it less formal than I expected when we went in April. We skipped elegant night because I didn't want to get that fancy for a family of 5. But this time we'll do it with better than sunday best- to sunday best. We'll be presentable and comfortable.

  4. Living in Florida for 40 years and traveling the Caribbean many times in June, we have never had a trouble with Hurricanes at that time. Peak Hurricane times are late August to Early October.

But there is always that weird one that pops up, like the Sub Tropical one we had in May. Never came to anything but a lot of rain. We had a weird winter this year as well, very dry and cold. That would mean the tropical waters are not warm enough to feed a hurricane yet.

We are going on a Western Caribbean Cruise at the end of June.

But I do have to agree with the others it is very hot and humid at this time of the year.

Hope this helps and puts your mind at ease.

    Enjoy your cruise[emoji2]!

And this occurred to me belatedly after we paid off our cruise. Aug 20 to the Bahamas. Contemplating insurance.

  5. Table cloth is gone for normal dining, bread basket is still there and they change around the bread it seems during the cruise for what they put in it.

Picture of us at the table from April cruise and we had no issues with the table arrangements or no table cloth.

Looks like y'all had a grand time! We also enjoyed our MDR time on the Ecstasy this past April. So much did we like the food and other aspects of the cruise we are going on the same ship and with the same itinerary in 48 days.

  6. Different strokes for different folks - The topic is what one thing would I like to see Carnival improve and for me that is the entertainment.

My son loves Carnival, but primarily for Guy's. He doesn't care two hoots about entertainment.

I had moderate expectations for the entertainment. It seemed to us like a high school production with canned music and the singing was ok, but for the quantity of performers, the music overpowered them except when the soloist wanted to showcase their trills and affectations.

There are things we didn't try last time that we will this time such as the comedy show and some other offerings. I know we'll still have fun.

  7. Sorry, but this sounds a little tacky. You were going to do the Dream, but a water pipe burst and now you wont go. Have you ever done a history report on certain ships that you may go on? Chances are you might find something that don't "Sit right" with you.

I'm far from a CCL cheerleader, I only follow the boards for which I have cruises booked. But to not go because of a burst pipe seems a little tacky. To each his own.

True! But I still went on the Ecstasy and will go again in /checks calendar—48 days.

  8. MSC sells a VIP package in their excursions. I would guess the other lines probably do as well.

Yes, Carnival had a few different offerings for Blue Lagoon. We chose the family package. Once there we paid for the clamshells and each of us got a Bahama beach towel for it. Food set up was so much better here than on Princess Cays.

  9. I have no first hand knowledge of these masks, but I did once see a news report saying there are concerns about them because death rates due to drowning while snorkeling have increased dramatically recently, and many of the victims were using full face snorkel masks. There is no hard data as to what is causing the deaths and what, if any, role these new masks have in the increased rate.

Just Google "full face snorkel mask drowning danger" and you'll see links to numerous stories about it. Here's one:

    https://www.cbsnews.com/news/hawaii-full-face-snorkel-mask-related-deaths/

Interesting article, thank you for sharing. While the mask may have contributed to deaths is not directly attributed, merely suspected, I can see how it is a possibility.

We have the full face masks, but we also do not go alone. My kids (just barely adults) are in a pair or we are all 4 together. I don't like getting water in my ears so I swim alongside. Gotta have a buddy system. However, being aware of this risk could help prepare someone to know how to react, so again, thank you.
