  1. Ruby sails 8/25. Purchased IE Guaranteed. Offered today OCEANVIEW (Cat O3-OZ) - $59 USD/$86 CAD* per person

Called left message about 40 min after email came in, got call back about 3 hours later all unobstructed were taken but got a obstructed that isn’t reall obstructed midship on emerald thanks to prior cabin posts here.

  2. Sometimes you don't find out your cabin until you arrive at the pier. If that is the case with you, don't worry. The longshore clerk will have a current ships manifest that will have your stateroom number on it and will be able to provide you with luggage tags with your stateroom number on it for your bags. When you get to check-in, they will scan your passport (or enter your surname if you're using a birth certificate) and your cabin number will pop right up on the screen and they'll write it on your copy of the ship's map. That is not an uncommon occurence, and should not be cause for concern.

Hope you have a great cruise!

Can’t use a porter then can you if you have to go to check in with your bags? I’m still waiting on my assignment for aug.

  3. NCLs big ships feel very crowded I hear. RCL does them much better if that’s true. Hopefully they will have an outdoor promenade deck you can walk around the whole ship by unlike sky. Helps with congestion and nice views in places like Alaska. I doubt that though. They’ve got to be able to put more staterooms in.

I’m 29 years old, if I want all the other junk on there I’ll take my family to Disney, six flags, pigeon forge, or whatever. Maybe I’m older than my age but I like the more traditional type cruise. Why I booking princess and not RCL even though I’m closer to statuses there.

  4. When the ship is sailing, any cell phone usage (internet or calls) will be through the ship's connection and not from US or Canadian providers with cell towers on shore.

How does the ship captain or whoever decide when to turn on their tower? I know leaving and arriving into port and various places in the passage/near land you would have service in and out from us/Canada towers.

  5. Checking prices frequently is more important than whatever sale is going on. On any given day throughout the year you could get a deal on a given itenerary. Factor in any perks and what the value is or value to you is and keep checking before final as long as refundable.

  6. Actually the OP never stated that they knew they would be roaming or not.

Also, I was not referring to AT&T’s service, I simply said no matter what service you use you will be able to connect to the tower the ship uses, which is correct. No, you may not be able to connect to AT&T, but you will be able to connect to the tower and use the service.

I wasn’t aware AT&T had a plan that covered any Princess ship, so that’s good to know going forward. Although I’m sure it’s totally cost prohibitive.

I think what is trying to be said is that ATT won’t work at all like no signal. No cellular to make calls on be like airplane mode on those two ships. No cellular at sea (probably can use the app on the ships WiFi like normal.)

  7. I’m not sure what you mean. If you mean which pier, I’m not sure.

In Skagway, it took about 10 minutes to walk to the Avis office from where we ported.

If you mean what deck we disembarked from, I don’t remember the number, but we usually ended up queues in either the casino or the art gallery.

One day, we waited a long time in one of those areas and when I talked to my parents later, wherever they waited they said they walked right off the ship.

It was never very clear where to go.

    Yeah, which deck. Ok thanks!

  8. Damn. I'd be interested to know what the Ruby will be serving the week of the 28th.

There are ruby menus from a trip review on here from the last month or so. Should be the same or similar for that trip.

  9. One leg for $25? I think you got ripped off. :DWhere did you eat? ;p

When we cruise out of Anchorage, we stop at a local restaurant, and order the King Crab legs entree. 4-5 large King Crab legs (flash frozen when caught, on the crab boat), with all the usual sides. $30 includes coffee or tea, and a slice of pie for desert.:)

I tried the Crab Shack on board twice. Both times, the shellfish was not of good quality. Frozen too long , over cooked, off tasting, some tasteless. JMO, YMMV.

    King

I looked at Tracy’s website. I’m going aug 25 on Ruby. Might just do the crab feast even though my wife would get the chicken alternative and not be a good value. But I could make my money’s worth :)

  10. Hotel rates out near SeaTac are more sane than in downtown Seattle. Our solution was to buy

an airport transfer from the cruise line, rent/return at SeaTac, and stay in Renton.

I went ahead and booked through aaa my car. It was only $58 renting at airport and dropping off downtown. I would do what you’re saying but had a free room through work. Booked Sheraton Bellevue. Plane gets there at 430 leave the hotel in the morning drop off and go to port.

  11. We really liked Oasis (giant) and Freedom (similar size to Ruby I believe) but going on Volendam last year made us realize we def prefer the bigger newer ships (I want to try the Epic type ships from NCL and may try to get on Bliss next year). I'm thinking this trip as a relax/but have some fun ie kinda party. Which RCL ship were you on?

    Monarch of the seas.

The epic is very big, I’ve heard RCL does the mega ships better than NCL, at least the epic. Only forward and aft elevators, not enough deck space, not many windows, have to walk through the casino to get everywhere, weird layout, bathrooms. Reserve nearly everything. Idk, some people love it. A very polarizing ship lol.

  12. Hi All,

I am considering booking the Ruby Princess Oct 13th cruise from Vancouver to LA as a little getaway for my husband and I. We have previously cruised on RCL's Oasis and Freedom, Disney's Fantasy and HAL's Volendam. I am considering this cruise as it leaves from Vancouver (which we can drive to) and the price is very reasonable. We enjoyed our cruises on DCL and RCL, we did find the HAL cruise a bit..boring, but we knew to expect that going in. Just wondering thoughts on Ruby Princess- what do the age demographics tend to be, do there tend to be people in the bars/night club in the evenings, how are the day activities?

Thank you all so much in advance

FWIW I'm 29 and my wife is 26 -going on Ruby Aug 25 Alaska. We weren't impressed by our last RCL. It was a older ship, so that may have had something to do with it. Looking at Princess for Europe 19 even though prices seem high compared to NCL. Don't want the Epic mega ship so we will see how it goes it Aug. From what I read here and elsewhere, Princess is what we are looking for! We have a 1.5 YO (not taking) and want to relax, not party. I'll be following this post as well.
