  1. There is no set price to get to Maracas from the cruise terminal but I can assure you that if you get off the ship and negotiate with one of the waiting taxi drivers you will most likely get away with about $100. US dollars to hire the taxi for the day. I also have a suggestion. Since Maracas beach is the destination for the cruise tour, the beach there will probably be crowed with your fellow passengers wanting to visit the most famous beach in Trinidad. You might want to go further down the road past Maracas beach to Las Cuevas. It will have fewer tourist and is a very nice beach. You can always ask the driver to stop at Maracas on the way back to the ship or stop there for lunch at Richard’s for bake and shark.

  2. Trinidad like every where in the world today has crime. You have not heard of terrorist attacks on the news because there have not been any so far. Don’t be afraid to get off the ship and take a tour. The areas being warned about are mostly areas that Tourists usually do not frequent. Trinidad is a lovely island and you will be happy if you see some of it. Port of Spain is the capital city so it is extremely busy and driving can be a nightmare during rush hours so stick with a planned tour that will give you a tour of the city or take you on the scenic ride to one of the North coast beaches.

  4. I have not done this in years. If memory serves there was a lot of walking through some virgin forest as well as cocoa estates. At the end there is a waterfall and pool that is somewhat shaded and therefore the water is ice cold which comes as a welcome relief from the hike. It has been over 20 years since I have done this therefore I can’t be specific about the length of the hike. If the ship offers this as a tour you should go with them to ensure you have a knowledgeable guide through the forest. When I use to live in that area there were no signs posted to point the way. It was just a route we all knew and could get there and back without getting lost. It is possible that the tourist board has since posted signs but I would not advise going without a Guide and risk getting lost.

  5. Pigeon Point is lovely. The beach is great and the is usually a steel band playing on some days. There is also and opportunity to visit Booco Reef there. There will be several boat operators loading boats for a visit to the reef and nylon pool. This venue is in Tobago and you did not say which island you will be visiting. Two islands- one country. If you dock in Trinidad and will be there for only half day you will not have time to go to Tobago.
