  1. If you book a guarantee, you are in that category, worst case, and will get on the cruise. I will always book a guarentee, even though last time I did not find out that I was upgraded 7 categories until 4 days before. Time before that 8 categories up.

  2. That is far out! It must be a popular cruise that sold out or is close to selling out - like Australia is sold out for next winter! I believe the only way that assigned rooms get changed is if they need your room and offer you a higher cabin for $ or for free. You book reservations based on the category of room assigned. It should say on your My Viking Journey account how many reservations you have to use. Don’t hesitate to call Viking with questions. Did you get an upgrade?

  3. Thank you for the information. I do not blame Viking either for trying to sell cabins before giving them to guarantee cruisers. This cruise was slow to sell out, which may be the reason for late assignments. Throughout the process I have watched the sales and the V2 has been waitlisted several times, V and DV sold out or close to sold out and upper levels were open. The upper levels miraculously sold out in a day mid-week this past week. My guess is that although every cabin is sold out - according to the numbers of cabins sold (except Owners Suite), there are a number of people they have to move around and place from waitlist and guarantee. I know that I took the risk with guarantee but I wish I would know where we will be before we board. It would give us a sense of when we can get in our cabin, what amenities we would have, etc. I have not read on any any forums where anyone was assigned a cabin as late as when they arrived on board, so this probability is a surprise.

  4. I am leaving next Saturday and do not have a cabin assignment yet. Viking said I may not get my assignment until we board. Last year we also did a guarantee DV6 which travel agent suggested. Three weeks or so before cruise, we were upgraded to PV1. It was fantastic!. This cruise is suddenly sold out after seeing all kinds of availability mid-week. I heard from 2 people that they are offering PS cabins to PV customers via email for $800. (I am sure that they don’t want to give a suite to a DV guarantee.)

  5. We booked a guarantee DV6 for 4/14/18 Trade Routes of the Middle Ages. As of today - a week out - we do not have a cabin assignment. Last year we did Mediterranean Odyssey DV6 guarantee and were assigned a PV1 a few weeks before sailing. It was wonderful! I saw on roll call that one person who booked a specific cabin on the 4/14/18 cruise received an email yesterday offering him an upgrade for $800. They must be trying to sell the better cabins at a discounted rate before assigning guarantees. I fear I will be in a DV6 cabin and we won’t know until we get to the ship.

  6. I called Viking and they said that I won’t get my cabin assignment until I Board. There has been a lot of movement and filling in the upper categories the last couple of days and now the cruise on 4/14 is sold out except for Owner’s. I don’t understand why they don’t just post our cabin number; if every cabin is full, they must have already assigned us somewhere.

  7. We are on Trade Routes of the Middle Ages on 4/14, and we still don't have a cabin assignment. We booked a DV6 guarantee. (We took the Mediterranean Odyssey last year and we were upgraded much earlier to a PV1 on deck 6. It was wonderful!) I noticed some of the posts were from people on the same cruise. Did you get your cabin assignment yet?
