  1. I can't wait to hear more about your cruise. I am planning a trip on the Navigator in March for my birthday. I am also traveling with 2 other couples. We are booked at the Courtyard Marriott in Downtown Miami (which I have heard mixed reviews on...but hey, we are only there for a 1/2 a day, right!).

Were there "van" sized cabs available in Miami? We are planning on taking a cab to the port too, but was hoping there would be a large one so we could all go together.

Looking forward to the rest of your review! Hope you had a blast!:)

  2. Upgrades do happen...on occasion. I have cruised over 30 times and have never gotten an upgrade. I feel awful saying this, but I often cruise with 2 other couples and one of the couples has gotten an upgrade 3 times on RCCL. I feel awful because I was very envious:o That being said, upgrades don't necessarily go by Crown and Anchor status because have been a D+ and she just turned Diamond.

Still hoping my upgrade comes sometime...those two other times we all just had a party in her room!

  3. This isn't about ships, but it a song I gave to my husband on our 29th anniversary cruise:

I wish the words were my own...

My love is deep as the sea that flows forever,

You ask me when will it end I tell you never.

My love is bright as the sun That shines forever,

You ask me when will it die I tell you never.

The world may disappear like a castle of sand,

But I'll be waiting here With my heart in my hand.

My love I love you so much Now and forever,

You ask me when will it die I tell you never

  4. Does anyone know what brand of kosher beef hot dog Royal Caribbean is using? My DH really liked that it was not salty. I personally liked the apple sausage and the brat and the fried onions/kraut really made them yummy.

In our part of NY we have what we call "Michigans" which are hot dogs in a flat ended bun, covered in a spicy, finely ground beef sauce and served with the onions buried underneath....Pure HEAVEN!:D

  5. It does happen on occasion. People do cancel last minute. I personally haven't tried it, but I asked around and it could happen. Just keep tabs on it. Hope you can get on one of those dates-if not, I still hope you have a good vacation!

Thank you! Any vacation is better than none and if I can't secure this cruise, I will end up by the ocean somewhere instead of sailing on it. I just love the sound of the sea:)

  6. Has anyone out there ever had any success taking a cruise after being wait listed? My husband and I were hoping to take a last minute cruise to Bermuda during a June. The cruise on the dates we had open were sold out and now we are wait listed. We are planning on staying near the port the day before the cruise and if we can't get a cabin, we'll just head to the Jersey shore for a few days. Just wondering if anyone else had luck attaining cabins after being on a wait list....

  7. Thank you B-52! Bummer, was hoping for a cooler coffee maker, but whatever! It'll be great to brew a fresh cup if we feel like it either way. We had a room near the elevators and moved back a bit for noise reasons - we're in the middle of the hallway now. A little walking isn't bad - we've done an aft stateroom before and that was totally worth the walk.

    Can't wait can't wait can't wait!

Besides the coffee maker, the suites also have a tea pot in the room. When we were on a couple of weeks ago, the single cup coffee maker came with a 4 cup coffee pod which obviously didn't seem to fit into the machine. When I asked the room steward(ess) about this, she said "oh just squish it in". Well, let me tell you, it makes for one VERY strong cup of morning java! So, to rectify the situation, I just warmed up about a 1/2 pot of water in the tea pot and added the very strong coffee to it. Voila, the perfect cup of morning joe.

Another tip, bring along a small covered container, or just get a paper coffee cup/ lid in the cafe promenade and fill it with 1/2 and 1/2. Put it in your fridge then you will always have it available for your coffee in the morning. The little drink spout on the disposable lib makes it perfect for pouring too:)

Enjoy the Explorer. It is one of our favorite ships...love the dining room. The food is terrific there. Although, in my opinion, skip Portofino. It was not worth the extra cost on this ship. I have had a superb experience with it on other ships but it was poor here:/

  8. Looks like we will be on the same cruise!

THREE DAYS TILL EXPLORER AND BERMUDA

Can't wait...been very stressed with work, kids and starting college again after 25 years of being out of school. Hoping NOT to have to be at the internet cafe too much posting assignments:rolleyes:

Planning another cruise in December and one in Feb and June. Just love cruising. Everyone is special and each one is an escape for a week:D

  9. Just returned from the Spirit and the Lobster bisque in Cagneys was horrible. It had some spongy, non flavorful thing in the middle of it- cant even tell you what it was suppose to be. Also, the soup at the teppenyaki grill was equally bad. We ate there with 2 other parties and none of us could manage to eat it!
