Again as I recall you will be on an O class ship there is no Sushi Restaurant on those ships - it is only found on Encore and Ovation

Sent from my iPad using Forums

that's me being blond then - sorry- had somehow assumed a sushi place on all ships.

thanks - we are booked on odyssey - but other half is looking at something for next year too - which i think antarctic/alaska is on the others i think.

  2. Oh yes, rocket on everything. At least on SB they call it 'arugula' so you can pretend it's not rocket until you actually taste it :D

i keep thinking of the philadelphia cream cheese advert from the 80's now....where they used to have philadephia on a cracker and then the woman would add lollo rosso ,,,'for that continental touch"...as the voice in the background would say....

    fancy :)

  3. Now that you've mentioned it, given the popularity of juices right now I'm surprised that this isn't something that Seabourn offers more often. Maybe you can persuade theme

As you're on Odyssey I'm assuming it's a Med cruise, so they usually do bring onboard local in-season produce. I'll be interested to read any updates from you during or after your cruise. One year, on a Med cruise with another cruise line artichokes must have been season. They appeared everywhere, every day! Never been much of a fan since then. :')

yes a med cruise - so I will certainly be asking if possible - but understand they can be labour intensive if limited staff - and i am not that demanding - espresso will always do with a couple of litres of perrier instead :)

i know what you mean on 'too much of a good thing' - i often see that with salads....you know rocket on everything...... there are other leaves ....

  4. Thanks for that. Given the differences between the O class ships and the new ones I'm a bit wary of answering questions correctly if I'm not sure what ship people are booked on!

As I said, if there's anything you want when you're onboard, don't be afraid to ask. They will do their best to get it for you.

thanks Isklaar - i might ask if I see available produce around the breakfast area etc - i like a nice long leisurely dinner - so don't eat breakfast or lunch sometimes - to ensure I enjoy dinner. an espresso and a juice are usually handy to bridge any hunger gaps...

  5. Bobtails I just saw where you were asking about the Sushi bar on Encore. I thought you'd mentioned you were on one of the O class ships, but it seems not so as I said in my post if you're on Encore or Ovation ignore my reply above as I haven't cruised on either of those.

yes next month odyssey ....though my partner is looking at antarctic/alaska options for next year ....so all info welcome...thanks

  6. Were the women in fishnets wearing fishnet stockings or fishnet vests?? ( I enjoy visual imagery)

Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

fishnet vests:) - now i have an image of madonna from 80's videos - 'like a virgin' etc and all the skimpy lace tops....

  7. Waiting for this thread to go poof...

i do like the "poof" imagery....and have noticed that a lot of threads go poof just as they get interesting...( wouldn't have thought that helps their advertising revenue).

you know when you have been following a thread about the two ex wives on the same boat with the mistress and the ex dog and the cat that won't talk to them.....and then cc admin decide it's too interesting....go back to talking about dress codes :)

  8. Very true. Maybe those kind of people want to save a few $$ dollars trying to sneak oversize luggage as carry on? And to stand there on the plane and argue with flight crew? I’ve seen that happen. Holds up everyone who followed the carry on size rule, trying get seated for take off.

    King

agree - don't get why people bother with the argument - which probably means they will either be removed from the flight - or flight miss the take off slot - so they definitely won't make the transfer.

often if a full flight and i am checking in a bag they will offer to take my cabin luggage free as well- to make more room - only really an option if no breakables etc..

i would prefer to check a bag two thirds max full- be able to take all the liquids like high factor sunblock etc that i want- and when they are used up - i have plenty of space for nice foods - or as happened on a previous october cruise - bought 3 winter coats - and they all fit in my bag now half empty - no problem.

but i do love cubes and individual zip containers for smaller items - so they make space easy.

  9. Does that 24” size case you say Americans carry on fit in the overhead bin boarding in Europe?

    King

it's not meant to- and on most flights won't - hence why they attract my attention as they are usually arguing with boarding staff that they brought it from a usa flight and are in transfer etc.....or whatever the story is.....

a slim 20inch is max for most short hall euro flights- AND they do have the right to ask you to put it in the hold( EVEN IF RIGHT SIZE)- possibly free of charge - if no room as busy flight- has happened to me frequently- but you will have to collect it landslide....

i always think of this when people say they are so proud of just carrying just cabin luggage - and so have arranged for short transfer times - if you have to go through customs possibly and wait for luggage - and then depending you might have to go landslide and come back in as from luggage collection you can't re-enter airside proper in a lot of eu airports....you aren't going to make that short connection...

  10. But then you may have to deal with security, they are on the ship and not necessarily in uniform.

Also, there is always the annoying busybody who will take offense and alert a bartender or security.

absolutely- the policy is 21 on usa sailings - so a bit like wanting things differently on any other policy - you accept the policy of the ship/hotel/country etc you are in and that is the law there.

as in I am european - so being in certain states in the usa where i know there is probably a percentage of people around me carrying firearms - is uncomfortable knowledge for me - but then i have the choice not to travel in usa. ....

same as the original poster and the 18 yr old have the choice not to travel on a cruise from usa...

  11. Bobtails12.

    Don’t assume, read the policy

Guests who violate any alcohol policy, including but not limited to under age drinking; providing alcohol to minors or young adults; possessing, concealing or attempting to conceal alcoholic items in their luggage, when boarding or while on board; engaging in alcohol drinking games; or failing to consume alcohol responsibly will be considered for discipline .....

you're absolutely right - policy is 21..... but seems others guest have experienced a softer approach to that policy - so my 'assumption' is that within reason if for a celebration etc....

i am multiples of 21 :)and have found wine waiters etc fairly few and far between on the last few cruises in the mdr....so I don't know if they are out doing what i assume is called a ' hall monitor' on each table..:)...would explain where they are i suppose.

  12. Yup, politically motivated Fake News. But look at how uncritically it was accepted by some posters.

Another factoid - it had 16 Dem sponsors and 4 Rep sponsors. But hey, Reagan.

fair enough - same reason why scotch and scottish whiskey distillers got pride of place 'after' prohibition - than irish whiskey then :)

  13. Nice spin, considering it was Congress that passed the law, which was written by the Democratic Senator from NJ, and pushed by the liberal MADD. But hey, Reagan Administration. And the consequence was losing 10% (since reduced to 8%) of highway funding, not all of it.

Three Pinocchios. But the good news is that you should be getting a job offer from CNN any minute now.

    thanks....was just fact checking that.:)

  14. 7 day cruise in a carry on is easy as pie. I would think a 10 day would be just as easy. I can't stand dragging extra baggage around.

it does depend on your size of carry on though....this is always brought home to me when i see americans in front of me boarding in europe with carry ons bigger than what i checked in 24 inch sm-med case - which i consider my large case....:)

  15. like!

or teach your adults to drink responsibly - the young 18 plus people i see out at night here - france- are at least 50% Of the time drinking coke- or water in bars ...

alcohol will always be there in most countries - but like food conscious consumption and enjoyment over abuse is what you're aiming for. a small amount of something you like...

  16. You can thank Ronald Reagan administration for the 21 and over law.

The public campaign against drunk driving took off like wildfire. One result of this is that Ronald Reagan’s administration tied funding for maintenance of the Interstate Highway system to a state’s changing their drinking age to 21. States were free (and still are) to make their drinking age anything they like, but if it wasn’t at least 21, they’d receive no federal funds for maintaining their portion of the Interstates that ran through them. That worked out to many millions of dollars states couldn’t afford to do without, so they all changed their drinking age to 21.

thats a very handy admin background fact- will remember that- thanks..

to op- i assume if you buy a bottle of wine they won't object to you pouring him a glass. if its only to join in at mealtimes....

  17. We have long thought that Aqua Class is worth no more than $25 per person/day more than a regular balcony (which is often in a better location). Why do we say this? Because to us, the only advantage to AQ is Blu. And we can generally buy a dining package that covers most nights (we like to be in the MDR on the Chic Nights) for about $25 per person/day when purchased during a 20% Off sale. Last year we did this on the Reflection. Rather then dining in Blu we dined mostly in Murano with a few meals in Qsine and the Lawn. All those venues are must better than Blu. The other issue with Aqua on the Solstice Class ships is that the location of the cabins is nothing great. Many of us do not like living in the shadow of the big pool-deck overhang and we do not like to ever book cabins under a pool deck (nothing like moving loungers early in the morning to start the day). We actually prefer a balcony a couple of decks below.

    Hank

totally agree with you. have had mixed to bad experiences in blu- but great meals in murano. we did aqua for a few trips but persian gardens always full- and blu hit and miss - and cabins can be too.

  18. Hi Bt and Ff,

Ship-wide smoking was not as bad as I was expecting. The only inside smoking was a small area of the casino, and various outdoor locations. Similar to NCL, HAL, and Princess. Of course Celebrity, Azamara and Oceania have very limited smoking zones, which we prefer, but this is one area that all lines seem to be moving in the right direction.

    Enjoy!

    Kel:D

thanks - it's funny when you get used to smoke free almost places - it's hard to go back.

  19. We really enjoyed the Sushi restaurant on the Encore last year. Most nights there was a 30 minute or more wait as it was very popular, at least on that cruise. Did not get a chance to try lunch but glad to hear they are expanding the lunch offerings.

totally off topic... do you mind me asking - but is it strictly westernised sushi. etc....or more sashimi options etc?

  20. Bobtails, the Dancing on Deck was lots of fun as I mentioned. As this is a back to back combined cruise they are likely to have another next week. We will go again as we find them fun and the dancing is a good way to get some exercise in to balance all the good food you get to eat.

    Julie

thanks julie - i will look forward to the dancing.

and it's good to know the casino on odyssey is not as invasive as it might have sounded on here . i don't want things to be invisible - but in an each to their own way/ right to swing your fist as far as my face - when one area takes over - the other areas suffer.

but seems at least odyssey not an invasive concept.
