  1. We have sailed on several cruises on Royal Caribbean over many years but feel like the quality is deteriorating. I would like to hear how Carnival compares. I was just looking online a little bit at cruises on Vista or Horizon. Thanks.

I've sailed a bunch on Royal, and maybe three on Carnival. I can make pros and cons for both, but the quality and service on both has been on a steady decline for a few years now. I do like the larger (not largest) ships on Royal a little better than Carnival. They seem easier to navigate to me. I also like the main dining room experience on Royal a little better, but the food quality on both has been no better than mediocre. Now, for me, since both lines have drawn pretty close to even (in my opinion) it's gotten a little more about the price and itinerary...... And the price gap between Carnival and Royal has gotten hard to overlook. I feel I get a better bang for my buck on Carnival so I have two booked for this year (Pride & Magic) Bottom line, you'll probably enjoy either one.

  2. I've never sailed on the Breeze, but have sailed on the Adventure 4 or 5 times and I'd give it two thumbs up. The Adventure is one of my favorite Royal ships, but the quality of things like food and shows have been in a steady decline the past few yeas and I find the price gap between Royal and Carnival getting bigger and bigger. Both my 2018 cruises are booked on Carnival. I find Carnival to be more value for my money.

  3. Hello Adventure lovers!! I just read that Allure of the Seas is moving from Fort Lauderdale to Miami. I also read that Adventure of the Seas is going to move to Fort Lauderdale as one of the ships to replace Allure. Has anyone heard what ship is going to replace Adventure in San Juan? I know they will release it all next week but I thought someone on here may have heard (Bob..........) LOL I never thought they'd pull Adventure from San Juan! We always wanted to try another ship down there but yet we LOVE San Juan so now I'm kind of sad!

I've also seen info showing that the Freedom is moving to San Juan in May of 18. I hope those sources are correct. Freedom is my favorite ship with Adventure being my 2nd favorite.

  4. Did they bring this back? I know it was discontinued last year because the airlines would not support it. I used it in the past and it was so easy but it was not available last October.

It's only available at certain Ports. I don't know all the reasons, but I do know that San Juan was one port where they had to stop offering the service. We have used it a few times now (when available) and have loved it. You put your bags out on the last night and you don't see them again until you get to baggage claim at your home airport. Only drawback is that if you forget to pack something, it will have to go in your carry on. And if it's a prohibited item, then it has to go in the trash

  5. Thank you everyone ! We've got a little more time to decide but I think we are going to pass on the Passports!

A passport is not necessary, but if someone has an emergency at home, that person would not be able to fly home from a foreign country without a passport.

  6. Anybody skip the breakfast and prefer the sea day brunch? .........never tried the brunch, by that time im working on a burger or pizza

Sent from my SM-G935T using Forums mobile app

We fell in love with the brunch. I'm not a big, early breakfast eater, so going to brunch around 11:00 worked out great for me. Totally fell in love with the Huevos Rancheros and she couldn't get enough of the cheesy grits. You have to try it at least once....

  7. I realize that Carnival supplies towels to each room for use at the pool and HMC, but does anyone pack their own beach towels for whatever reason, simply because it is theirs or not to have to keep track of Carnival's towels?

I've always taken the same old towel with me. It's old and thin so packing it is not a problem. I do it mostly to make it easy to find my chair on a crowded beach or around the pool. My old towel is getting ready to go on its 14th cruise in a few weeks..... but is going to have to retire soon

  8. I'm extremely concerned about sailing out of Baltimore Sunday to Bermuda because of Hurricane Hermine. Anyone have any suggestions or words of comfort?

your cruise will be fine. The Pride could be a little late getting into Baltimore on Sunday morning because they will probably need to slow down due to rough seas off Carolina and Norfolk. Your sailing my be a little bumpy once you get out into the ocean, but it shouldn't be bad. The winds from Hermine will be greatly reduced by the time the storm gets this far north so stop stressing and have a great cruise. :)

  9. Embarkation---

DINING---a little back story-my 4th time on the pride my 6th cruise over all. LOVE the PRide! This time i brought a FIRST time cruiser with me. Our ding experience was terrrible! I was very disappointed with this as we have ALWAYS had great service on the PRIDE. Our waiter (T) hardly spoke to us at all. He never learned our names and he ignored us if we saw him in other areas of the ship. WHAT??? This can't be..but yes it is true. He gave us our menus on the first night with out even introducing himself to us. The second night he introduced himself as T but never asked us our names. His Helper was Imade and Marcela (sp?) he was good but not great either and she was pleasant but seemed a bit out of sorts. I made learned our names and always addressed us accordingly but she never did.

We had asked for Lemonade for drinks the first night and it was cloyingly sweet and asked for extra ice to water it down. We waited 1 hour to even order our meal and to receive bread or drinks. We continued to be disappointed for the rest of the cruise. Either waiting or having to keep asking for ice in our drinks or keep reminding them about bread on our table. This has never happened in all the cruise I have been on. They always learned our names and I always got to learn about them. It was sad really not to have my friend experience that. They also do not put napkins on your lap anymore or is this was just our table? Am I expecting too much or what?

we were on the Pride back in April, and I'd have to say that our dining experience was a lot like yours. Some nights we had long waits either to order our meal, or between the appetizers and main course. Then to make up for the lost time, it was not uncommon for our waiter to be giving us our dessert menu BEFORE we were finished out entree. I found that to be absurd. Out of curiosity, I watched our waiter one night and realized that he was responsible for a total of 8 tables which sat a total of 38 people. Granted, not all 38 where there every night, but that is way to many tables for one waiter to take care of. We ended up only eating in the dinning room 4 of the 8 nights we were on board. We will be going again in May and I'll see if service got any better.... but my hopes are not high.

  10. I will be in cabin 6194 and 6221 on a B2B. Any issues on deck 6 mid? I heard some parts of the ship have vibration issues? Thanks!

There is a vibration when the ship is running at about full speed, but you really only notice it when you are towards the back of the ship. We felt it on the two sea days sailing down, but didn't really notice it on the trip back. Don't worry about the vibration though. It's just a minor thing that you will only notice occasionally.... like when you're in the main dinning room.

  11. Currently the Pride is scheduled to sail from Baltimore at least through the first week of May 2018...... that's as far out as the schedule goes.

Someone just extended their contract with the port of Baltimore five more years, but for the life of me..... I can't remember if it was Carnival or Royal.

  12. In the picture it showed vehicles under everything.

As a "local" it appears the crushed van/pickup truck nearest the ship is a port administration vehicle that takes care of hooking up a water supply line to the ship. The crushed trailer is used mostly for storage or a place for the dock workers to take breaks out of the weather.

  13. CM1984, the OP meant propulsion problems, not proposition problems. I assume it was an autocorrect-typo issue.

Marinetraffic has Pride still in the Virginia part of the Bay, just north of Eastville, still south of Exmore! She must be limping along very slowly.

The Pride is currently doing 15.6 kts (18 mph) that's not full speed, but far from limping.

  14. My cruise is in 3 weeks, and we already had a M&G scheduled for the first sea day at 2:00 P.M. I don't mind CC hosting it (although we had a second roll call on another site:eek: ), but I can't get an answer to this question: If CC sponsors the M&G, can you still determine the day/time? I don't want to confuse anyone from the original day/time that's been posted for months. I've emailed both LauraS and John Heald but haven't had an answer yet. Does anyone know?

You can still have your own unofficial meet and greet, but the office Cruise Critic even will be scheduled by Carnival.

  15. I have tried searching with no luck. Does anyone know what fountain soda choices are available on Adventure besides the staples of Coke, Diet Coke, and Sprite? Or any other RCI ships excluding the freestyle machines ;) for that matter just to get an idea.

Just the typical offerings that come out of the "soda gun" at the bars. your options are very limited when it comes to fountain. I much prefer the ships that have the freestyle machines.

  16. Is the Pride and other ships restricted in speed (knots) in the bay? Also does the pilot take the ship to Norfolk or just out of the harbor in Baltimore? With two bridges and a bridge/tunnel to navigate I was wondering.

I don't know it to be a fact, but living in Baltimore my whole life I have been lead to believe that the pilots takes ships southbound to Norfolk.... where they pick up another northbound ship heading back to Baltimore.

ahhh, found this info. This should answer that question.....

By state law, every ship that enters Maryland waters must have a state-licensed pilot at its helm, steering massive ships from the sea into port. That means that every vessel bound for Baltimore must be met by a pilot at the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay, where she or he takes command of the ship. Throughout this voyage, pilots steer their ships through a 50-foot deep channel, with sometimes as little clearance between the bottom of the ship and the bottom of the Bay as three feet. Once the ship reaches the Key Bridge, a docking pilot takes over the helm and brings the ship into its berth in the Port.

  17. Looks like the Pride left on Sunday the 17th, and doesn't come back to Baltimore until the 28th? Must have been a Journey's trip, so it won't be affected. However there is a RCCL tomorrow out of Baltimore, could imagine a lot of no shows/cancelations on that one.

Actually the Pride returns to Baltimore on Feb 7 so no worries there. The 28th they are in San Juan starting a 10 day back to Baltimore. The RCCL ship has been delayed until Monday. Just think of the people who parked at the pier and will return to find their cars under 30+ inches of snow. Yikes.....

  18. I've been on a quest for great table side quac on every single holiday. Have had it beachside in Mexico, in some of the best Mexican restaurants in Vegas, CA, and FL. None can compare to the quacamole served at Sabor on our Oasis Christmas cruise last week. In fact, we went a second time just for the quac and chips. We happened to be at a beach in Cozumel the day after our Sabor visit and the quacamole at the beach restaurant was not even close to that of Sabor. Can't praise it highly enough. Such a simple recipe, too, and am planning on trying it out this wknd.

I was never a big fan of quacamole. In fact, it's pretty safe to say that I pretty much hated it. That is until we were on the Freedom a couple years ago and we ate at Sabor. I sat there and watched them make it at the table and before you knew it..... I couldn't get enough of the guac and chips. Now I can't wait to get back on the Freedom in November
