  1. We booked our British Isles cruise for our 20th anniversary in May of next year. We have intentions of flying in the day of with a direct flight from RDU to Heathrow. My husband is adamant about not flying in the day before due to vacation time concerns since our cruise is on a Saturday our flight would be Friday night a day early would mean Thursday night. Our flight would arrive around 6:50am UK time. What does everyone think? I know that the chances of lost baggage go down when there are no connections. We were also thinking of doing a private taxi with touring Stonehenge on the way.

Appreciate the help. I am pushing hubby to do the day before but he's not thrilled with that and we have to book our flights next week.

We have taken the RDU to Heathrow overnight flight on 3 occasions to catch the ship the following day in Southampton. There were no problems and I used the ships transfers from Heathrow to the port.

  2. We are a long time fans of Royal Caribbean and celebrity but chose Breakaway this summer because of its convenience in boarding from downtown Manhattan. We actually stayed at a hotel on W. 48th St. and walked to the pier Sunday morning it was very easy. We also walked from the ship to Penn station when we returned the following week. If you flying into Newark , you can take a train into Penn station. Breakaway has many nice features one of the best is the thermal suite. We will go on Breakaway again to Bermuda but I would continue with Royal Caribbean and celebrity for all other destinations.

  3. Thinking of doing the NCL transfers to HB on the last day since they will guarantee we won't miss the ship :)

BUT , it only gives 3 hrs to stay.

We are not beach people per se, not sun worshippers and we won't be snorkelling. Just mainly enjoying the view and going for a swim :)

    Any input is appreciated!

    Title should read: Horseshoe Bay

Three hours is enough time. My husband is not a beach person and he had the best time and said this was his most favorite beach in the whole world. If you're facing the beach on the right side is a small cove with wonderful rock for missions there are some shady areas in the water they are near the rocks. You can also climb on top of those rocks and you can see the beautiful Bermuda long tail bird. If you walk the length of Horshoe Bay Beach toward the left there are a series of clothes there you can walk through. We took the ships excursion there because we were also a little leery of getting back on time but the Horshoe Bay Beach shuttle which is seven dollars a person they were everywhere to take you back and also to take you from the pier to Horshoe Bay I brought a mask and a noodle with me in my suitcase and the snorkeling around the rocks was very good enjoy your time thereIMG_1469705082.996349.jpg.8a5c713128442c9045d6f8630e1c6cbb.jpg

  4. You have to call a cab. Sometimes you have to wait a bit for them to come. I've always done this between 10 and 10:30 am.

There are two places to be picked up at the station - Avenue E or the parking lot. Be sure the taxi dispatcher is clear about the pick up point. For the parking lot pickup you have to take the elevator up to the skywalk to cross the tracks to take the elevator down to the parking lot. For Avenue E you can just walk out to the street where there is a bench.

When you disembark, you go to the taxi dispatcher and tell them you want a shuttle to the light rail station. You may have to wait a few minutes. There are always miscellaneous folks on the ship who want to go to the local shopping center.

    Thank you so much ImageUploadedByForums1464782526.115882.jpg.ef31511a7de682e3455f915d7bc9d8d3.jpg

  5. Cape Liberty is a very long peninsula. It's about 2 miles from the entrance to the terminal/pier area. No way to get lost, but the traffic can back up. Bring your patience!

Good morning 138east your posts have been most informative. We will be taking the Path train from 33 St to Hoboken then Light Rail to Bayonne 34 St station. Is there a cab stand outside the train station ?

Also at Cape Liberty when we disembark will there be a line of cabs to take us back to 34 street station?

    Thank you

  6. We stay at the Embassy Suites. Excellent location to walk to shops, restaurants and over bridge on intercostal waterway to watch cruise ships leave. Embassy suites has an excellent breakfast and great evening cocktail hour. Also there is a fabulous Ross and TJMaxx very close.

  7. We went to St John on our own following the advice on this thread. We had a nice time, but the day was quite rainy. We didn't stay as late as originally planned because of this. It took us 90 minutes each way from ship to beach and from beach to ship. This was with timing/showing up about 10 minutes before each ferry. The ferry on the way back ( a Tuesday ) was packed with tourists and luggage leaving the island. I would definitely recommend that you choose the ferry time that gets you back earlier than needed. It would be super stressful to cut it close with no time for "something to go wrong". Trunk Bay had shade trees and we were glad we had them when the rain poured down. I didn't snorkel this day but my husband did. He said the snorkeling was "eh" and that the beach snorkeling in St Lucia was better.

    Thank you

  8. Trunk is generally calmer and an easier snorkel than Cinnamon. You'll see fish at Trunk.

We have been to Trunk and it is excellent. We will be there via Allure next month and am considering Cinnamon Bay since it seems to have some shade. My husband has to have shade. Can you rent snorkeling gear there also?

  9. Trainman2. Thank you for posting the pictures of Embassy Suites. We will be staying there prior to Allure on Feb 1. I will enjoy following your cruise!

A few questions....how are you getting to the port and what time do you plan on getting there?

Have you eaten at BiminiBoatyard or Nanking Asian Bistro?

    Thank you,

    Charlene

  10. Thank you. There are 6 of us going, celebrating 40, 50, 60 and 62nd birthdays. We're all really looking forward to it! We are staying at HHV also and plan on doing Diamond Head Saturday morning. Was your transportation to the ship through the hotel/NCL? We booked the hotel through NCL so transportation is included, but have no idea what time it would be for.

I booked the transport to the ship through "robertshawaii tours". There were several time options I think we went early afternoon. We checked out in am, stored our luggage at hotel walked out to the street and took a local bus to Diamond Head. This was not the quickest way but it was early am and scenic trip. There are small refrigerators in the rooms so we ate breakfast quickly from items we had bought. We stayed in the Rainbow tower with a view of Diamond head. I can't wait to go back. 11. No problem. :) Sounds like the discover jungle falls tour, that's the one we were thinking of. Thank you for your input, I appreciate it!

You are welcome. We enjoyed this cruise very much and would even do it again down the road. We stayed at Hilton Hawaiian Village on Oahu before the cruise. We hiked to top of Diamond Head the morning before we sailed. Also excusions we enjoyed were downhill bike on Maui, Captain Zodiac on Kona and biking tour on Kilauea. Have a wonderful trip.
