  1. Thanks so much! I had read about port buses that traveled from the ship to the terminal, where one would board a city bus into town, but it sounds as if only one bus is required, which would be great. Also, does the shuttle stop at Placa de Ayuntamiento or otherwise near Estacion del Norte?

Your help is greatly appreciated by this senior citizen!

  2. Hello! We will visit Valencia this month as part of our Infinity cruise. Does Celebrity offer a shuttle bus from the port to the historic center of Valencia? Has anyone used this service recently? (The app for our cruise doesn't provide this information.) Thanks!

  3. We sail on the Golden Princess southbound later this month.  I just spoke with a friendly Princess rep, who assures me that the transfers we already purchased are "interchangeble" - meaning we can choose to get on the transfer bus at either Egan Center or the airport - even though one booking summary (our son's) mentions Egan and the other (ours) mentions the airport, with Egan as an option.  At first, we intended to get on the bus at Egan, but our current plan is to meet our son and his wife at the airport and stay the night before the cruise at the Lakefront Hotel, near the airport, and drop our rental off at the airport when we check in for the transfer on Saturday. From other helpful posts, I understand that we will sign in with a Princess rep in the Arrivals area and them wait our turn for a bus.  The Princess rep says no bus will depart until 12:00, which is fine with us. (We plan to show our son and his wife a little of Turnagain Arm before we turn the car in!)

For planning purposes, it seems odd that Princess will not know in advance how many passengers will leave from each of the two deaprture locations, but the pleasant rep says we can do what we want. So, I am curious:

    1.   does anyone see a problem?

    2.   if we arrive at ANC at 1:00 and check in, what is your best guess about our wait time for the next bus?

    3.   what document do you show at ANC to confirm you pirchased a Princess transfer?

  4. We sail southbound from Whittier, Alaska in late May and selected a table for four family members in the Canaletto Dining Room. From prior helpful posts, I learned that cruisers reach the dining room only by elevator or stairs from other floors, rather than walking by or through the Donatello. (We're glad to know that in advance.)

Have fellow cruisers enjoyed Canaletto recently?  Also, how are the views and service in this dining room?   Thanks!

  5. We cruise in May, southbound from Whittier to Vancouver, and the Princess map indicates we do sail through the Inside Passage.  However, the trip itinerary simply states "At Sea" for our final day.  I ask because other lines emphasize the Inside Passage aspect in their advertising.

Does anyone know if similar Princess cruises have used the Passage to sail from Ketchikan to Vancouver?  Thanks so much!

  6. Let me second the opinions of others who endorse the private tours. We were very happy with the number of sites visited, ranging from Peterhof to the Yusupov palace where assassins awaited Rasputin.

Alla was quite efficient, and I suspect the smaller vans allowed us to spend more time at each stop, as opposed to tours with big buses that do not fill, or refill, with similar speed. The sites are so wonderful that you will savor every extra minute. As others mentioned, the coordination of the guide and driver was excellent, which helped keep us reasonably dry during a rainstorm!

  7. We arrive on Nieuw Amsterdam at Civitavecchia on 5/28 -- a day that 10,000+ other passengers arrive! We have taken the train on our own between Rome and the port before, but I am concerned about two things: (a) the port load; and (b) construction in the port that complicates what had been an easy walk from the train station in Civitavecchia. The ship arrives at 0700 and leaves at 1900. HAL's "express train" option costs $99 apiece but promises a ten-hour day beginning at 0800 -- with what I assume is a bus pickup at the ship that delivers one to the train -- and guarantees a return to the ship at 1800.

Has anyone used this ship-offered option? If not, what do you wise travelers think, given my concerns.

Thank you so much. This board rocks -- although I hope the NA does not!

  8. Many moons ago, Schlitz brought Mr. King and some other musicians to Groves Stadium in Winston-Salem, NC so that ANYONE could see them play -- for free! (The other musicians? Flatt and Scruggs, Dave Brubeck, and Dizzy Gillespie.) First time I ever heard "The Thrill Is Gone." Not the last. Not by a long shot.

May Lucille and he rest in peace. The thrill created by that man has not "gone way."

  9. We have been lucky enough to work with RomeCabs three times, with three different drivers. Each was courteous, personable, and professional. Each driver arrived early to pick us up. If I was worried about timing, bags, and even price before beginning a vacation, I'd pick RomeCabs. These people love their jobs and are proud of their city!

  10. When we visited Stockholm last year, all our research indicated the Eurodam would weigh anchor at a buoy (Strommen?), a short tender ride from Gamla Stan. We looked forward to wonderful views of Stockholm from the ship, but for some reason, we docked at Frihamnen. We rode the ship's shuttle bus on Day One for about 10 euros apiece. The second day, we boarded a city bus just outside the small port that stops at several convenient locations in the city. The ship did give good instructions about how to use the municipal option.

  11. We publicly commend Rome Cabs whenever possible. The drivers are personable, knowledgeable and -- most importantly -- prompt! When our cruise disembarked at Civitavecchia, we had asked the driver to meet us at 7:00 a.m. Using Celebrity's terrific "walk-off" option, we left the ship early, and our smiling driver was waiting for us at 6:30. That kind of service takes a lot of the stress out of making your flight home.

  12. Your photos are unquestionably the best traveller photos of Santorini I have seen. Especially impressive are both the resolution and depth of focus. Would you mind sharing any tips at to how you captured these images? Did you use any filters?

Again, these pics are remarkable -- and add to the anticipation of our trip!
