We completed our tour. Love to hear what @1stItaly thought.

We got what was agreed upon. Some things could have been better… but I’d like to hear what others thought as everyone has differing expectations and experiences!

Glad you enjoyed your tour.  I have mixed feelings.  Driver was foreign, so English was not 1st language.....very hard to understand, and I don't think he understood everything we said.  He was very polite and did the tour we asked for...but it was VERY foggy that day and we had wanted scenic tour.  He took us where we had asked but we could not see anything.  He finally got out his phone and showed up a picture of what it looked like!  I felt like he could have adapted the tour to fit the weather and suggested other opportunities.  As far as paying Simon did call a week before tour and took CC over the phone.  Hope that answers your questions.

It looks like we will be berthed at Pier 30 according to the Port schedule I accessed in

Sorry, it posted before I was ready! lol  C2C posted a link to port schedule I looked at.  It also says there is transportaion for passengers and crew, but no other info.  Are you planning on just taking a taxi from our hotel?

Sounds like a couple of you are on the sailing the first week of Sept, and in case you haven’t seen there is a roll call for this trip:

i was also curious about finding the port entrance itself, as it seems some of the berths are quite far from one another and it’s not yet clear to me where the central processing area/terminal is, when I look at a map…

Renting cars is very difficult or impossible at this time!

There will indeed be taxis at the port

The private tour I am planning is with the Sydney Cape Breton Island Taxi Tour company

The owner,Simon, told me he has the contract to provide taxis at the port in addition to offering premplanned tours

He has been very amenable to planning something not listed on his web site

I always find a good way to see what a port offers is just to go to Google maps and zoom in. Use the little blue man feature to "walk/ride" the streets.

We are planning to use Sydney Cape Breton taxi tours also.  We are needing 2 more for  Sept. 6th if anyone is going to be there that day.  We are on Holland Zuiderdam.

DH and I will cruising here Fall 2023. I’ve found Sydney & Cape Breton Taxi Tours and will be using them for a customized private tour. They have been extremely pleasant to work with thus far and we SO look forward to the amazing adventure they’ve helped us create! Their website FAQ section is very informative or they’re just an email or telephone call away 🙂 Safe travels to all and happy sailing.

I am hoping to do their taxi tour also, Trying to find 2 other people to join us.

Yes, there is good public transportation to the falls. Buses in the city are operated by the Réseau de transport de la Capitale, or RTC for short. Basic cash fare is $3.75, though there is an entire panoply of fare options available. http://www.rtcquebec.ca/en/rates-and-purchase/rates-and-passes/fare-schedule To the falls you will want to use Métrobus route 800, which operates about every 10 minutes, and has a 35-minute travel time. http://www.rtcquebec.ca/en/schedules-and-routes/bus-schedule/all-routes/800/terminus-chute-montmorency The primary stop downtown is at Terminus Place-d'Youville, on the east side of avenue Honoré-Mercier at its intersection with rue d'Aiguillon, convenient if you're already in the city centre. However, if you're coming directly from the Port de Québec, it would be easiest to board near the Gare du Palais (walk from the port along quai Saint-André to the station), on the east side of boulevard Jean Lesage at its intersection with rue de la Gare-du-Palais. Stay on the bus until its last stop, which is Terminus Chute-Montmorency.

Note as well that, depending on your vessel's schedule, you might be able to enjoy an all-day ride on the scenic Train de Charlevoix. http://www.traindecharlevoix.com/en/schedules The train begins its journey at the Chute-Montmorency station at the bottom of the falls (use the cable car to get there from the top of the falls), departing at 9:00 a.m., and returning at 6:30 p.m., including a 1 hour stop at la Malbaie, or a 4 hour 45 minute stop at Baie-Saint-Paul.

Thank you so much for this information.  Looking at the bus schedule though..... I don't speak or read french.  lol.  How hard would it be to navigate this speaking only english?

Perfect decision...It's not necessary to book this with the cruise line at all.

We actually purchased our HoHo tickets once we got there...a quick easy walk from the pier to where the trolly was parked. Don't forget to go into Quincey Mkt area...some great food options in the food court !!!

Great ideas here....my question is what do you do with your luggage?  Our cruise ends in Boston and we will have all of our luggage, headed to the airport that afternoon.

  8. Thank you very much for your reply and info.  I did look up the US State dept. and found the same, that only normal precautions were advised as of a level 1.  Good to know.

  9. Cruising Caribbean in November, and first time to St. Lucia, Martinique and Barbados.  Have a heard some concerns from other crusiers about the safety on these Islands.  Wondering if anyone has encountered any trouble, or known of trouble happening recently.  I will be traveling with my adult daughter, just want to be safe.  We were advised to only take the cruise excursions, and to not go out on our own.  Thank you for any input you have.

  10. Well, I obviously did not understand the correct terms for International Travel. The line for immigration was quite long. I now understand that Customs has to do with things you are bringing into a country and Immigration has to do with people coming into a country and why they are coming in. Thank you all again for your concerns.

  11. We made it!!! Letting you all know we were a little late departing Miami, and the Customs line was VERY long, but we spoke to someone telling them we had connections thru Gatwick and the they sent us to a short line. Our driver was there waiting for us and we made it to Gatwick with time to spare. Thank you for all the good wishes and you can be sure I will check connections very carefully in the future.

  12. Everyone on here hopes you make it. Make sure you let us know how you get on. Have a great holiday.

Thank you so much for your good wishes! I will try to come back and let everyone who was so kind to give information know how it went. P.S. Spoke to British Airways last night and they say 4 hours is fine. Another thing someone asked about - All flights are BA.

  13. I was not advised that I would need to change airports. And actually my 3rd party TA didn't know either. I have contacted the parent company and they stand by the fact that over 4 hours is ample time to make the connection. In fact they state that 3 hours is enough! The travel company I have used for years changed their mode of operation and my trusted TA retired, so I foolishly trusted an unproven TA. I am booking a private transfer to Gatwick, and am just going to trust everything goes well. And if not, I will deal with it then. I feel it is foolish to spend almost $1,000.00 for something that may not happen. At least I realized the airport change before I was there. That would have been a nightmare. I agree that the parent travel company should make it right. But not sure how much fight I want to put into it at this point. They have stated that I have a 90 % chance of making the connection. If things go bad and I am out alot of money to rebook another flight, I will be fighting with them. Thank you for your concern and insight.

  14. We have done it. Used the National Express coach.

We only travel with carry on so we are never concerned about waiting for luggage. I would say that it very much depends on what day and/or what time you plan to transfer. We did an evening transfer. It was fast. But the same 45 minute trip we are told can take as long as 2 hours.

The alternate way would be to take the tube and train, or train and tube depending on where you start. For us the coach transfer from GTW to LHR was fine. I would budget lots of time for this.

Thank you for your reply. We arrive at 06:40 on Friday morning. Connecting flight is 11:20. If I can not get any changes done with British Airways, then I will book a private car and trust that it will work out. We are on a 12 night cruise, so I have more than just a carrryon!

  15. What airlines are involved, and who's the third party TA?

While 4 hours might be "legal" in terms of published connection times, it's going to be an uncomfortable and hurried 4 hours, during which you're probably going to be jet-lagged and tired from a not-very-nice night on a transatlantic flight.

What I would do in this instance is contact the TA and ask to have the tickets changed to a departure from Heathrow rather than from Gatwick. There are numerous departures daily, and even if you have to pay a change fee, the savings in bus fare (on top of wear and tear on your brains and bodies) would be worth the difference IMO.

Plus which, are you returning through the same nonsensical route? If so, kill both birds with one stone.

Thank you for your insight into my problem. I have contacted my TA and asked to have the flight changed. They have said it is not possible, so today I have contacted the parent company and they are looking into it with British Airways. Best possible resolution is still going to cost me anywhere between $825.00 and $1,400.00! I'm not sure I'm willing to spend that much. If they offer no other solutions, then I will book a private car for transport and take my chances that I will make it and not have to buy another tickect. Our return flight is non-stop Barcelona to Miami. So no problems there. (I hope)
