  1. I asked this question of two different tour operators and got different answers.   Waiting for a response from Carnival.com, so I'm hoping someone here can help me since I want to get my shore excursions booked ASAP.

On Carnival Dream out of Galveston in January.  Particularly interested in excursions in Curacao.  So it is 2 pm in Galveston now as I write this post, and 4 pm in Curacao.

The Carnival itinerary says we arrive to Curacao at 8 am.  If that is Galveston time, then it is already 10 am local time.  The excursions I'm looking at say they leave at 9 am.     SO, does that mean those excursions will already be underway when the Carnival ship docks, OR does the ship time change to local time (which means I have one hour to get to my tour pick up location in order to leave at 9 am).

  2. Hello,  Sorry in advance if this has been posted / answered already ....   I'm wondering if it costs more to purchase the drink package once on board or ahead of time.  I've seen several posts indicating that there are always people wanting to sell you a beverage package, but don't see any of them that explicitly state whether it is for a reduced price.

(I am not a big drinker ... thinking I would spend less than $250 for the 7 night cruise I'm on if I didn't buy the package.  But if It is only slightly higher than that once on board, I would opt for it just for the convenience factor)

    Thanks !

  3. Hi,  I am booked on the Carnival Spirit leaving out of Honolulu at 11 PM.   What time do they expect everyone to be on board ?   (I'm trying to decide what activities I will have time for on that day, before boarding the ship.   Also is there any place to store luggage near or at the cruise terminal, or will I have to plan on keeping it with me for the entire day?

    Thanks

  4. I agree it will be worthwhile to have a simple watch set to the Ship Time.  And that will ensure we get back on the ship in time.  I will leave my phone settings as is, so that any pictures I take will have the correct time on them.

But my question deals with getting off the ship in the morning and taking an excursion.

In Bermuda, I want to take an excursion that is not offered by the cruise ship.   We arrive in Bermuda at 8 am.

The excursion I want to book leaves at 9.     If the ship stays on ET and Bermuda is in a different time zone, then I'm already late for the excursion by the time we dock.

Even if the time works out, is one hour enough to get off the ship in Bermuda ?    (I have a daughter who cruises a lot, and she says we should allow at least 90 minutes ...  but there are no island excursions that leave at 9:30)

    Thank you very much

  5. Thank you so much !

I was able to open the link with no problem, but I did it on my laptop. Maybe you don't have enough memory on your device ??? It's actually a link to a google earth app, and pretty amazing to be able to zoom in with that app and see the taxi stands !!

  6. Hello,

Can anyone tell me where to find a current map / list of taxi stands in Rome. I found a PDF listing in a link that was from 2011, and I have no way of knowing whether it is up to date or not.

Specifically, I'm wanting to know if there is a taxi stand near Circus Maximum, Palatine Hill, and/or the Forum.

I have successfully determined where the stops are near other places we want to go.

    Thanks

  7. Has anyone had experience with the pink HOHO bus in Rome ( the I love Rome one) ?

Have you experienced that it is full when it gets to a stop, so that you wouldn't be able to get on ?

Is there only one pink bus that makes the loop, or do they have more than one. (I know there are other buses, but I'm specifically asking about the pink one, since it is the only one I see that crosses the river for a view of St. Peter's and the Vatican

    Thanks

  8. I read on a ticket site that even with a ticket to enter at a certain time, you need to be there up to an hour in advance to make it through the security line. And that even if you have a ticket for a specific time, if the max people have already entered then your time would be delayed (meaning they overbook)

    Is that correct ?

We only have six and a half hours in Rome, so it will be hard to think about standing in line for an hour.

    Thanks,

  9. just curious .. do you know which dock you were at ? (OMG, horrible grammar .... but I can't think of another way to say it). I read somewhere that Dock 13 was a mile and a half from the pedestrian entrance, and then it was close to another mile to the train station. Is that wrong ?? I also read that it's difficult walking from the ship ... and I assumed that meant that there weren't sidewalks or pedestrian paths, and that we would be dodging shuttle buses and taxis.

    Thanks for your help

  10. Sorry if this is repetitive ... I have found a lot of information about the shuttle bus at the Civitavecchia port, but nothing really current.

Can someone tell me if the shuttle bus from the ship stops near the Fort AND at Largo della Pace, or just the one place ?

We want to walk to the train station, and it would be much closer to be able to exit the port near the Fort

    Thanks very much

  11. We are going on an MSC Cruise leaving from Cannes. We are wondering if we can go through the check in process, leave our luggage, but not board the ship right away. We will probably arrive in Cannes a few hours before we need to board, so we wanted to check out the Irish Pub that is close by, without having to keep our luggage with us. Is that possible ???

  12. I know that there is an Express Bus 210 that will take us from the Nice Airport to the cruise terminal in Cannes (or very close to it). However, when I go to purchase the tickets online, they provide a choice of stops in Cannes, and I don't know which one to select. One choice is PEM / GR SNCF Cannes and the other is 'THE CANNET Pl Benidorm. Any help would be appreciated.

Something I had read earlier stated that the bus stopped at the Hotel De Ville and two other places .... ?

  13. I apologize if this question has been answered elsewhere ... I'm going to be on a Mediterranean cruise in September on MSC Fantasia (France, Spain, Italy). Is there any way to know ahead of time which terminal the ship will use? We want to make the most efficient use of our time in port as possible, and probably will not be purchasing shore excursions from MSC, so it would be great to know if we can get the Hop-on Hop-off bus right at the pier, or if we need to take a bus / taxi to get to our starting point.

There's a ton of good information on the internet about each port, where the terminals are, how to get transportation from whichever terminal you are interested in, but I can't find anything that tells what terminal(s) a specific ship uses.

    Thanks,

  14. Well I'm lying too! I have previously cruised solo with MSC and paid the supplement - no problem. But I also tried to book from Southampton in September and when I put in 1 passenger there were absolutely no cabins available - any type. Change it to 2 and whoopee everything was available.

So I have booked a ghost cabin mate. I really wanted to go on this cruise and am travelling with 2 friends (married so sharing their own cabin) I have also annoyingly paid for 2 drinks packages - also because I really wanted a drinks package and my friends also have it. (yes my choice I know)

Since being widowed I have found it's really expensive to travel on your own and still travel the way you used to and still want to.

Thanks, lovetoholiday ! I'm very new to cruising and did not know anything about MSC until I found this cruise (I knew I wanted a Mediterranean cruise with a stop either in Cannes or Monte Carlo, and this fit the bill). It's a little off the topic, but I didn't read the fine print on the drink packages until AFTER I had booked along with several other people I will be traveling with. I only rarely have an alcoholic drink .... BUT, I found out that not only do you and your cabin mate have to book the same package, but if you want to sit with others in your party for meals, you have to buy the same drink package as all the other people !! So, now I'm paying for two drink packages that I would not have otherwise purchased !!! Live and learn ....

I am also a widow and I know what you mean about the expense !! I have found a site that shows cruises where the cruise line is offering a less than 100% supplement, so I might try one of those next time. I also know that there are some cruise lines that are selling solo cabins. The cabins are small, but you only pay for one person. The down side is that the ones I have found so far only have inside cabins, and I really, really wanted a balcony. I have also seen a cruise line that has virtual balconies ... I will have to find the name of the cruise line again and post to their board to see what people are thinking about that option.

  15. Your comments are strange. OP was unable to book a single cabin, so they added a "second passenger" who was never going to cruise, in attempt to get around the rules.

No one was "nasty" or posted a rude comment or "hated."

Pointing out the question was answered on another thread simply alerts a poster to go back and read the answers, which a lot of new posters never do.

WOW ... In my original post, I stated that I added a person that "might be able to go". That person very much wanted to go, but was running into issues with getting time off work, someone to watch her children, etc. ... so at the time I posted I was just trying to figure out what I should do if she did come back and say she could not go. I was NEVER trying to "get around the rules". You might not think that is nasty or hateful .... but it's hurtful to me. I'm perfectly happy to pay for two people, and even purchase the drink package for two .... it just seems like after you make a booking and then something happens where one of the people can't travel, there should be a way to provide that info to the travel agent or cruise line. I'm sure this doesn't happen just to solo travelers. I would imagine that there are many times when two people booked a cabin and then illness or a family emergency or any number of other things kept one of them from going. I was simply trying to ask the members of this board what I should do when / if that happened. BTW, I have a cruise booked for next spring with a different cruise line ... and I'm traveling alone but paying for two in the cabin. That was NOT the issue.
