Why is it, do you think, that men are not accepting of her?  Do you think it is a common problem for trans people?

That women seem to be more accepting than men?  I found this to be the case in my own family.  When we told family about my spouses transition,  the women were talking to us and being accepting while we later found out the majority of the men seem to take it personally as an affront to their manhood or something.  Perhaps because women are the children raisers so are more nurturing and understanding about others feelings. I am not sure.  I can only speak for my own personal experience.  Myself as a straight woman, I have had quite the journey seeing my husband disappear and a woman emerge.  A depressed and suicidal man now is a happier woman.

  2. My spouse is trans female.  We normally just mingle with everyone on our cruises.  For the first time we decided to go to the meet up for LGBTQ on our Azamara cruise.  The group was sponsored by 2 of the entertainment dancers.  We met probably 10 people at that meet and greet.  We enjoyed meeting them and actually running into them during the cruise.  As for actually going on an LGBTQ cruise, I have no interest in doing that.  You get younger people flocking to them and some acting like teenagers with their antics.  We just want to be around people who are fun but not crazy and being LGBTQ does not mean you have to stick together!  We have on past cruises been ignored by some passengers who get that "deer in the headlights" look when they realize my spouse is trans (her voice usually).  You will not like everyone on a trip but we have found quite often an accepting attitude by many.  Maybe the not so surprising aspect of meeting others is that it usually the FEMALE passengers who are the most accepting.

  3. I have signed up for Uniworld Empress:   Dutch Delight (July 29, 2022 and  S.S. Antoinette:  Castles along the Rhine (August 7, 2022.  I am starting to feel me picking a cruise is the kiss of death!  Have rebooked 6 different cruises.  I have a FCC with Azamara which now I am trying t use on a March 2023 Ocean cruise (the FCC normally should be expired but they are extending SOME of them).  Now I book these two back to back river cruises and there are already problems with them!  I was hoping Netherlands and Rhine would be a better bet!  Just venting my frustrations as you can tell, but I REALLY want to travel!  I am getting older as we speak!

  4. I have always wanted to visit Myanmar.  I have been looking at the RV Kalaw Pandaw which seems to have a wonderful itinerary.  My spouse (trans female) says she was told that Myanmar is not LGBTQ friendly.  Anyone have any experiences in Myanmar or with this cruise line?  We have been in Thailand/Vietnam/Cambodia with no problems what so ever, but we will not go if we are not welcome.  We usually travel with the vague identity of two sisters traveling together to kind of blend in until we find out if fellow travelers are accepting of us.  If any one has any info I would love to hear from you!

  5. I have always wanted to do a River Cruise in Myanmar.  I found RV Kalaw Pandaw which sounds like a wonderful ship.  My spouse (trans female) says that LGBTQ are not welcome in Myanmar.  Is this the case?  We have been to Vietnam/Cambodia/Thailand with not one problem, but we will not go if we will be unwelcome.   Any one know about this Country or this Cruise Line?

  6. ATTENTION FOLKS ON THE AZAMARA PURSUIT ON JANUARY 6, 2019: I was just notified by my travel agent of the following cruise itinerary change:

Montevideo has been moved from Thursday, January 22 to Monday January 7th. Arrival at 8:00 am and depart 10:00 pm. A night out has been arranged by the ship (no extra cost) for dinner/music/fun in the city!

The overnight originally scheduled for Ushuaia on Thursday, January 10 will now be a extended call on Friday January 11 with arrival at 2:00 pm depart time 11:00 pm.

The calls on Elephant Island, Port Stanley, and Puerto Madryn each forward one day in their itinerary.

I had already made all my tour arrangements, so I wanted to let everyone know so you can get your tours changed also! Hopefully, the above information is not a surprise to you (you already have been notified about the changes).

  8. :)Thanks for the replies! I went out and purchased a neck gaiter and new gloves! The neck gaiter looks as though I can use it to cover my head/neck/ears with it. You are right that it is not an expedition cruise so I was overthinking how much to bundle up. I am looking forward to 18 days of fun! Also, the hot chocolate! I am glad to know a few of you are going to be on the same trip. Looking forward to it!

  9. Nice to meet you Fern! :D Partner and I are going through a travel agency here in Dallas that offered this trip for $7699/person (Club Veranda V2 & V3 category cabins)(includes Air). Have gone on many foreign trips with them and always great discounts and extras! I have been to Alaska, but never to a place that will be this cold! Our travel agent said we might get snowed on as the weather is always unpredictable there. We have not been on an ocean cruise in probably 15 years, so the specialty dinning is new for us. Not sure if an extra $60 is worth their food! We started doing river cruises (Vietnam, Egypt, Cambodia) and absolutely LOVED them! I know from experience in Alaska that I was very cold when standing on the deck to watch the glaciers! I hope others can give us both some insight as to what cold weather gear we really need to take!

  10. Hi to everyone on the blog. I am traveling on the Pursuit in January 2019 and have a clothing question. Are there places that rent Antarctic suitable cold weather clothing? I don't want to purchase them as I have no use for them after this trip. How have you been able to tackle this problem with locations this cold?
