  1. We had the pleasure of going out with Ken on six different fishing trips. We fished all the different kinds of salmon, fished halibut, bottom fished and caught rock fish, and fed the eagles. Ken would throw bait fish into the air and the eagles would swoop down and catch mid-air. His favorite saying was "A bloody boat is a happy boat!" We caught our limit quickly one year, so Ken took us out looking for whales and we found one that was bubble feeding. Awesome experience. We called today to book number seven and learned this sad news. We will miss Ken. He was wonderful both as a fisherman and as a man. Our summer trip to Alaska won't feel the same when we dock in Ketchikan. Our prayers are with his family.

  2. We will be arriving in Roatan on Princess in December. We went with Victor Bodden before and did an island tour, the monkeys, and iguana farm. We are looking for something different this trip. Has anyone went to the Garifuna village? If so, your opinion of the tour???

    Below is what Princess says:

Then participate in a cultural presentation unlike any you've ever seen. Travel to Yubu, the Garifuna Village, and meet members of the Garifuna tribe, descendants of Black Carib Indians who settled here in 1797. Enjoy a performance of music and dance that stays true to Garifuna heritage. The tribe has maintained its lifestyle, culture and language to this day, and you will have an opportunity to learn a few greetings in the native language. Next you will stop at Satuye Park located in Punta Gorda where you will see the bronze statue of "Satuye" a famous Garifuna leader. Here, you will also have the opportunity to go inside an authentic Garifuna hut and watch a typical Garifuna dish being prepared.

  3. A couple of years ago, I visited a quilting shop in Skagway. Lots of material and patterns. I don't recall the name, but it was on one of the side streets.

If anyone is heading to Sitka, there is also a quilting shop there, very near the church in the middle of town. This shop had some special Sitka material with scenes from Sitka on it.

  4. We went with Chilcoat last year. We went into the Yukon to Carcross. We rode the train first, then went on a van. It was very enjoyable. We learned a lot about the gold rush as someone talked on the train through speakers as we passed sites of interest. Carcross was great! We had a wonderful lunch and there is a nice museum. We also saw Emerald Lake. We were on a smaller van, not a big bus. When we saw a bear on the top of a cliff, the driver pulled over and everyone took pictures. We stopped at several other places like that also.

  5. Last year we went dog sledding on the glacier in the morning and we went whale watching in the afternoon. It was Great! We went with Coastal, but Temsco gets good reviews also. The man we dog sledded with was Sebastian Schnuelle. He really races the Iditarod and he finished 10th this year! Many of the dogs we took out on the glacier last year Sebastian raced with in the Iditarod this year! You would not regret going on this excursion!

  6. We are leaving soon for Alaska. I've used this packing list on our other two cruises. I may not pack everything on the list, but it sure serves as a nice check-off to jog my memory on things I might otherwise forget. Thanks so much for putting this together! I searched for it, although I have a printed copy, thinking others might like to see it! :D
