  1. I am not a smoker so I am unfamiliar with how it works on board. My husband smokes and needs to know if he can buy cigarettes duty free on board the ship and take them with him immediately to smoke? I know we can only bring 1 packet per adult back into Australia but what about on the boat? Can anyone help please? Thanks.

  2. Thanks, we've been in contact with P&O - they told us to make ourselves known to the maitre de on the first night - but that was it. Their customer care people have difficulty understanding and I have had 3 separate people offer 3 lots of different advice! I was hoping someone who had been onboard recently could advise what they had seen/done.

  3. We are on the Jewel in September on our first cruise. Our son has medical procedures which must be carried out every evening so we have to dine as early as possible each night. We are limited to the Waterfront restaurant because of food allergies. How early do we need to book at the restaurant to secure an early table? Do I go there as soon as we board? Will they book us a table for the entire week? Thanks.

  4. Hi all, hopefully my last question. We have 2 cabins NOT interconnecting but next to each other. Can anyone tell me please if I can get a room key card for my husband's cabin which is next door and vice versa? I have tried asking P&O directly but their lack of English has them confused as to what I am asking. Thanks.

  5. Hi Peter, thanks for the reply.

We're on the Pacific Island Hopper on the Pacific Jewel. Our son is 12 and whilst he has autism, he is at the high functioning end of the spectrum. He's ok with noises and crowds - I've sort of trained him that way :-) He's very social but needs to be prepared for most situations. That's why I thought we'd book a shore tour through P&O so we can prepare him with what to expect on the day. The idea of being accosted at the port with cab drivers and tourism operators will terrify him. We were leaning towards the Lagoon Cruise on the Barge which looks relaxing and scenic.

Not sure if we'll bother with the kids club for him - he is 12 but his mental capacity is about 4 years younger and unless he can remain with his 9 year old sister, he would be incredibly uncomfortable. I suppose it will depend on whether P&O will accommodate us on the ship in keeping the kids together.

Thanks for the tip about boarding assistance - that's a great idea and I will do that. I have done the check in already but assume I request boarding assistance while printing e-tickets and selecting boarding times?

    Thanks again.

  6. First time cruiser here. We have our two children, one of which is autistic so we're thinking we'll book one of the day tours on offer from the ship. We're on the Pacific Jewel and have a full day in Port Vila. Is there anything we should know about booking these tours? I'm assuming it's a safe way to go. Any recommendations in particular? Thanks.

  7. On P&O they have a refreshments drinks package for $19 per day. It says 'espresso coffee drinks' are included. I'm presuming this means barista coffees, chai lattes etc from the cafe? Can anyone tell me please?

Also, how strict are they with the drinks eg. if I get a juice but give it to my daughter?

    Thanks.
