  1. Thanks guys! I’m good with a tour/excursion to the locks, would like to see Panama City as well. We are pushing it by taking 12 days off as it is so I couldn’t do any longer. The princess cruise is tempting too but it’s about $1000 more for us so I’m leaning towards the MSC Cruise

  2. We are looking into Panama Canal cruises in December of 2019 and I came across the MSC Divina that has an 11 night itinerary that includes a stop in panama, it does not however say anything about transit so my question is does this ship just port at colon panama and not actually go through the locks? It says it’s in colon panama from 9am-6pm. Has anyone done this sailing on here? I am also curious to see if excursions will be available, if the ship doesn’t actually go through the locks maybe we can take an excursion that will allow us to see them. I would love to hear your experiences!

  3. yes, just came off paradise monday. 6 hour private tour with Blixie day 1 then next morning walked around on our own. After you get off ship the first time, it is very fast the second time. my impression is the paperwork is a formality and that they are really not too concerned about it. BTW, a private tour was 20% of the cost of the ship tour.

Excellent! Thank you :) we may look into blixie, we were looking into Havanaclassiccar tours or something like that

  4. We have a 10 hour port day in Havana this coming January on the carnival paradise. We are planning on booking a 4 hour car tour(outside of the cruise line) for the first part of the day and then walking around havana, grabbing some local food, and taking some photos for the second half of the day, has anyone done this? All of the tours the cruise line offers are 8 hours long. I do not want to spend 8 hours on a tour, I would like to explore the city on my own for a bit if it at all possible.

  5. Strange that you can't see it (actually, I can see it but some of the poll isn't working - I tested it out). So, at your young age, how do you like sailing on Regent? It is too boring for you or do you enjoy the opportunity to lay back, relax and enjoy some great food and drinks?

My apologies I just realized this was in a specific forum for “Regent”. I just looked at recent topics on the app. I have not been on regent, That being said I enjoy relaying with a good drink and I don’t particularly enjoy kids running around while I’m trying to relax

  6. So far I’ve just booked through the cruise line. The last two I booked with carnival after watching them for a few months and waiting for them to get cheaper. This last one I paid $359pp for a 5 night Cuba cruise , seems fair to me! I wouldn’t mind trying a TA if it brings some extra perks. Just never looked in to it. To be honest in this modern age of technology I’m surprised people still use TAs. I’m all for saving money so I can take more cruises so it may be worth looking in to!

  7. Will do! Thanks a bunch! Reviews I read of the Mendenhall tour combined with whale watching was that they did not get close to the glacier either. That they went to the Visitor's center and saw it in the distance, with no time to hike closer.

You can also just buy a bus ticket from one of the tour buses at the port. We did that and we got to choose how long we spent at the glacier. We hiked to nugget falls and got fairly close to the glacier. We also saw a bear on the way so that was cool!

  8. Yes. 100 shares of CCL. The credit is per cabin - not per person.

    OBC from CCL Stock

Sailings of 6 days or fewer $50

    Sailings of 7 - 13 days $100

Sailings of 14 days or longer $250

    Excellent thanks!

  9. Because I don't think it should be necessary to pay extra for a decent meal (AKA specialty restaurant), to be quite honest. I've never found it necessary on another ship. The "free" food has always been great. On the Sun, the only other free options are the buffet and the sports bar (after 5:30pm only, limited menu, mostly appetizers. I attempted to eat there once, but after 45 minutes of waiting for my food, I grew frustrated and retreated the the MDR).

Due to unsanitary things I observed, I avoided the buffet.

So, note to self, if on the Sun again, expect to pay extra for a decent meal.

I’m with you, if I’m going to pay for a meal on a cruise it will be at the ports. I’m sure some of the specialty restaurants are good too but I’ve always been more than happy with the food that’s included

  10. If you drink a lot it’s worth it. My fiancé and I have never bought it on the two cruises we’ve taken. We just drank water, juice, coffee, hot chocolate, etc for free. We aren’t big drinkers. We drink about 4-5 alcoholic beverages each on a cruise so it doesn’t make financial sense to us.

  11. That's exactly what the tickets were for...in Havana, you can't just walk off - you have to clear customs (they checked the visa, stamped our passport, and took a picture) and then (probably - if you want to buy anything) exchange money. To keep everyone from going down at once, they give you tickets assigning you to a group. You go down when your group is called. They did check our ticket before letting us off. I think there are 12 customs stations and normally, NCL would use all 12, but RCCL was in town, too, so it slowed things down a bit. If you have an NCL excursion booked, then you don't need a ticket - your excursion ticket is your ticket off. We weren't in a suite, so I don't know if the concierge assisted those folks, but there was nothing special for platinum like there is for tendering.

The process probably took 30 - 45 minutes from start to finish, but it was relatively painless. We came back in the afternoon, and then went out later that night - it was increasingly easier as the day went on.

The tickets for Key West were for the trolley - since we were parked at the naval base, we were not allowed to walk on and off freely; we had to take the trolley. It was very much like tendering. Again, I'm not sure if there was something for the suite passengers, but there were no perks for platinum like there is with tendering.

This has been very helpful! Did you check “support for the Cuban people” on your form? Also did you keep a journal of things you did and people you talked to while at port?
