  1. I have answered my own question.  I found this website claalaska.com that gives you your ships dock, date and other ships in port all in one website.  Very handy!!

Thanks Pantheral for reaching out.  Much appreciated!!

My sweet 18yo son decided to go work in ISP this season. He has already been up there 3.5 weeks, and has greeted several NCL ships already.

Are there any Alaska sailors who would love to help confuse him and amuse me before we get on there on our Sun sailing in July?

I’m thinking it would be pretty fun to send other mamas (or dads!) to seek him out in the shops at the Cannery and give him a hug or a high five. I wonder what he would do with his notoriety?

He is super easy to pick out, and the coolest kid ever.Does anyone want to help out?

I’ll probably go drop this on the Alaska port board too, but thought I’d start here since NCL is my fave line and the one we will be visiting him with later this summer…

We are stopping in ISP.  What's his name?  Where exactly does he work?  In another way of looking at it.....maybe his employer would be happy to see possible customers coming into the store looking for him!!! My son has been in Taiwan since last August so I feel your heart.

  3. Thanks for responding.  I am on Celebrity.  A tour company in Juneau is offering for $80pp.  Don't know if a bus ride is worth $160 for 2 people.  It also includes the park entry fee but I am a National Park pass holder so entry is complimentary for us.  I will keep looking.

I'll be in Juneau twice next year (April 25th and May 1st) and the snow might still be fresh on the ground. 😉 Several shore excursions have already popped up, the one heading out to Mendenhall Glacier is $39 and gives 2hrs for self-exploration. Was thinking about booking that one just for the convenience.

Is $39 for roundtrip?  Where do they drop you off?  What tour company is this?  Thanks

  5. We have a day room at the Hyatt and our friends will be at the Georgian Court.  We would like to meet for breakfast somewhere in between.  Bel Cafe, Giovane Cafe, Cafe Medina are a few that I have found.  Any suggestions on the best one for coffee, light sit down breakfast?  We will be coming from the port and they will be going to the port.  Thanks

  6. We chose the Hyatt on Burrand Street.  They say it is 8 minutes walking from the port.  The room is from 10am to 6pm.  Then we will taxi to the airport for a redeye to the US.  Not many offer the day room.  Go to dayuse.com for some other choices.  Or google day rooms.  (Be aware that the price you are seeing may seem high because they are quoting CAD not USD)

I've used the Fairmont multiple times for a day room and it is one of the great airport hotels. Highly recommend it.

Are you flying into or out of the airport in conjunction with this stay? If so the Fairmont is well worth the premium. If you aren't going or coming from the airport it might not be worth the hassle and just stay downtown.

Yes, flight to US is 11p.  Thought of a city tour but I might be a bit cranky with no sleep.  Thinking breakfast, a couple of cocktails and some sleep.  I will make a much better traveling companion!!!

  8. Looking for a day room in Vancouver, June 30th.  Narrowed it down to 2 so far.  Fairmont YVR, $300 or Hyatt, Burrand Street, $203.  What would be your choice?  Can we walk to the Hyatt with luggage?  Fairmont seems pretty expensive.  We would also have to pay taxi fare to airport.  Just looking for some guidance.  Thanks

There's a Tim Hortons across the street from the Pan Pacific and Fairmont Waterfront and McDonalds in the tunnel shopping area between.

Sure, if the weather's nice enough to dine outside the timing would be great to do that while crusing the IP; or perhaps a 'pay extra' resto which would likely be a smaller room, proportionately more window tables? But unless you're really late eaters, sunset in June is probably more 'take a cocktail to somewhere with a nice view' and with just a drink in hand you can wander the decks to find the best viewing spot ("Oh no, woe is me, the sun is setting over on the portside but the scenery off starboard is even prettier!" means being somewhere up top where you can see both sides is better than almost any balcony, even a corner... And if some a**hole dolphins decide to start playing in the bow wave at sunset you really need as close to a 360 view as possible to see it all!!!! 😉)

Those damn dolphins!!!  We were on a catamaran in Maui and a bunch of dolphins decided they wanted to play.  They were actually playing alongside the cat.  In the front, between the twin hull, where the net is that you can sit on and also more swimming along side our wake.  It was totally awesome!!!

If the sun's up and the temperature is tolerable, you should be outside - if the temp isn't tolerable, you should have brought more layers of clothes 😉

Some of the narrowest, most spectacular land-on-both-sides views of your entire cruise are on that first day (and in June, especially around the solstice, you'll have until ~9:30pm for sunset and then a good chunk of viable twilight scenery-watching even after that!)

What would you recommend for dinner that evening?  Maybe room service since we have a Sunset Veranda?
