  1. The beach itself is VERY busy (could depend on how many ships are in), it's a thin strip of beach with people jockeying for positions to take photos/videos as the big planes approach. There is a schedule of arrivals on a blackboard in the adjacent restaurant so you know in advance when the big ones come in.

     

    It really is a unique experience, I admit I'm a plane guy but my wife enjoyed it too, can get great pictures from the restaurant rail, you don't have to be directly beneath the planes on the beach.

     

     

  2. The plane beach is great, worth doing once. Agree with the above, no need for the official excursion - fixed price taxis are available and there are a ton of them, go and come back when you are ready, not on the excursion schedule. If the planes don't interest you just hang out in the bar/restaurant, still some great beach views.

     

    We were there 3 weeks ago on Edge, everyone had a good time there.

  3. Did Chefs table on Edge 3 weeks ago. It was good but not spectacular. First you meet for canapes and champagne on 4, meet the other guests, and then head upstairs to dinner. It is the large table (10) at entrance to Fine Cut. It's semi-open so often you have gawkers or people hanging around waiting for their table, a bit distracting. A fully closed room would have been better.

     

    The noise from Martini Bar was not that bad compared to the Fine Cut tables on the rail. The food is extremely rich - soup, then risotto, extremely filling. By the time the Duo of Beef arrived most were nearly full. The beef (filet and short rib) was excellent, better than normal Fine Cut steaks. 

     

    I would agree with others that said the experience depends on other guests. At our table there were 3 "groups" who had their own conversations going and it never really acted like one shared table.

     

    It's expensive and probably not worth it overall, but the Daniel cookbook arrived in our cabin a few days later and it is beautiful (and huge/heavy though!).

  4. ...adding, I don't offer this casually. We experienced several incidents on our recent SB cruise that shouldn't occur in any establishment at any price level. I don't want to be a complainer and I damn well didn't pay a SB-level fares to have to be one.

     

    Can you describe the incidents? Very curious, thanks.

  5. I love sea days, so not a problem for us. I suppose if you like the rest of the itinerary then go for it, pretend the 5 sea days are just a bonus to catch up and rest. Especially if you are doing Petra in Jordan, that is a heavy walking tour on uneven ground.

  6. I love the description of "relaxed luxury" - I recently had a first Seabourn cruise after many on princess, celebrity, and others. Those ships seem like organized chaos in comparison: Jostling for spots at the buffet, constant lines, no available seats at the lounge in primetime, finding a drink server and negotiating the drink package dance, etc etc.

     

    Nothing stuffy, just a relaxed calmness the entire time - service is excellent but it's more friendly than formal.

     

    As far as the age - granted my cruise was in the Med in summer - there were many younger couples and even *gasp* teens and pre-teen kids/families, if you pick the itinerary and month carefully there will be people of all ages.

  7. You mean other than the systemic breakdown from top to bottom, that included the waiter gladly taking our order for two dark chocolate soufflés 24hrs after distributing menus they knew were in error? Or not simply adjusting and producing what the menu listed?

     

    I'll perhaps say more about this in an appropriate thread when I'm home, but food and service delivery in all dining venues have a LOT more to worry about than what people wear.

     

    The sauce wasn't even dark chocolate then? I've seen some weird descriptions on the souffles - it usually refers to the sauce flavour not the cake part. But I digress. Short skirts/dresses always welcome in my dress code!
