I live about 1.5 hours inland from Prince Rupert.  Highly recommend the North Pacific Cannery excursion.  There is a small retail/tourist area right at the cruise port called Cow Bay with some shops, a pub, restaurants that is worthwhile.  If there is a whale watching tour or a grizzly bear sanctuary tour I've done both and they are amazing!

Thanks for the information, this sounds like a good change!

  2. Just got off the Ruby yesterday, yes the laundry rooms are open, there were free tokens to use for the washers and dryers.

The Wheelhouse Bar was used daily for word games in the morning [Scattegories] at 11 a.m. and LGBT get togethers at 5 p.m.  The Salty Dog dining was after 6 p.m.  The rest of the day the bar was empty and a great place for quiet reading [it's right next to the library], wonderful comfortable big chairs.  If you are familiar with the Grand Princess layout, the Wheelhouse bar and library are located where the Crown Grill is on the Grand.  On the Ruby, the Crown Grill is located on deck 7 [where Sabatini's is on the Grand].

The Wheelhouse bar has a "back door" that opens to the forward elevators and Princess Theater area.

I think spookyfudge thinks you're on a Royal class ship, not a Grand or Crown class. I think you must be on a Grand or Crown class because on those A305 and A314 are the same category.

I guess I did forget to mention the ship, it's the Ruby.

Was your TA able to find two cabins next to each other in the same category so you and your family member could still be adjacent?  If not, you can do a mock booking  to see if there are open cabins in the same category that you like and ask your TA to move you.

No, my TA was not able to find two cabins next to each other, my family members are in a handicap accessible cabin, hence the reason we originally booked next to them.  There were no close by cabins available at this time. My TA also told me when she questioned Princess why they don't let the guests know when they are moved, the answer was "we don't have to".

  5. I was just on my Princess account double checking my cruise info for a couple of cruises I've booked for next year.  I noticed a change in my stateroom location on my Alaska cruise, I was originally booked in stateroom A 314 and I'm now booked in A305.  I emailed my travel agent and she just wrote back that they are having a problem with Princess moving cabins around without notifying either passengers or TA's, due to blocking certain areas for isolation cabins.  She was not able to change my cabin back [I was next to another family member].  Just want to give a heads up, periodically check your future cruises for any changes.

  6. Update regarding Oct. 24 cruise cancelled;  our TA was able to book us on the Oct. 31 cruise, at the same rate as the Oct. 24th cruise, about a $700 savings, same category [balcony Baja deck] a couple doors down from our original booking.  My sister and her husband were also moved to a  cabin a couple of doors down from us and were able to get a handicap cabin.  Our travel agent worked her butt off getting us great rooms.   Can't wait to cruise again, our last cruise we were so fortunate to get home safely, we were on the Grand Feb. of last year for my 80th birthday and 60th wedding anniversary, we were the second to last cruise out of San Francisco to make it home before covid hit, and the next cruise after us was the last to sail, the one where passengers ended up at Travis AFB.

  7. We received an email from our TA yesterday morning that our Oct. 24 cruise was cancelled.  Then starting around 8:30 last night we received 12 in a row EXACT same emails from Princess that our cruise was cancelled.  What the heck?  Meanwhile, our TA has been trying to get us booked on the Oct. 31st cruise, haven't heard anything back yet, but I have a feeling we're using the same Sacramento travel agency that was mentioned above.  They must be overwhelmed, and the sad part is they only are paid when cruises actually sails.

We're in Pleasant Hill CA, hubby doesn't fly, so we go on cruises based out of San Francisco as it's only about a 1/2 hour drive to the pier for us.

  8. I hope the Ruby drydock will be ready to go after the Oct. drydock, I'm scheduled for an Oct. 24 California Coastal cruise on the Ruby.  Keeping my fingers crossed it will happen.  We've done most cruises out of San Francisco on the Grand, this will be our first time on the Ruby.

  9. We watched it last night, it really brought home how hard the crew had it, can't fathom how hard it must have been, exhausting really.  Delivering three meals a day to passengers cabins was just the tip of the iceberg;  the extra laundry, sanitizing every surface on the ship,  meal prep and cleanup,  was a constant chore.  Did not put some of the "entitled" passengers in a very good light.  Plus the worry about getting home to their loved ones, it was so sad and upsetting.  Really gave a new appreciation for the hardworking crew.

  10. Sleeping in a comfy bed that someone else makes.  Eating delicious food that I didn't have to cook.  Searching out quiet spots to sit and read a good book.  Walking for exercise on level floors [as an older adult this is important to me].  Playing trivia.  Watching live shows in the Princess Theater.  Frozen drinks at the International Cafe [Banoffee Blast and Black Forest Freeze].  Enjoying the fabulous crew, miss their smiling faces.
