It’s not difficult. You just select one at booking.  I wouldn’t think of booking a cruise if I can’t have a balcony. It’s a very big part of our cruise experience.

Omg I have a balcony, concierge cabin to be precise but we prefer midship not aft or forward.   Therefore we will enjoy what we have.

Perhaps If I had a “tiny cabin” I wouldn’t stay in it either, but we booked a corner aft so we could spend time out there enjoying our private space. I’m hoping to have or to be able to get comfortable furniture. Even Carnival has lounge chairs on their corner afts. I figured Celebrity to be a step up.

FWIW, we do get out and about. We mingle. But we also just like to relax in our quiet space with a drink and our own company.

Perhaps if I had a larger cabin I’d do that too lol

You seem to be missing the point completely. Pax are paying extra for the perk of a footstool in those particular cabins. Why bother paying extra if the amenity isn’t being provided - they may as well go for a cheaper cabin? If you are paying for an advertised amenity in that class of cabin, then it should be provided.

I think it's funny that this footstool is considered a perk.  I booked concierge class and I had no idea it was included. lol   Still, it would not have discouraged me from booking.  I prefer to go out and about for breakfast or any meal.  I rarely if ever stay in my tiny cabin. ;)

Seems to me that that could also apply to balcony furniture.

Ok fair enough. So people shouldn’t take what others say as going overboard.  Enough said.  It gets tiresome defending one’s self.

I think this is going a little overboard...  I am not a 'cirque' show person,  so I can skip their production shows, as I walked out of each of them after 15 minutes on our first cruise.  We also walked out on a Latin vocalist, and thought Ashley Amber was ok,  but probably won't sit through that again.   But some of the other shows were great.   December 63 was fabulous and I hope they are still there in October.  If so I may go at 7 and 9.   There were 2 brothers that played the electric violins that were amazing.  Comedian Ralph Harris was very funny,  until the last 10 minutes.  The Uptown show was very good.  And we had a good magician on our last cruise.  Maybe the best entertainment that trip was when our CD Dan France sang Opera one night.  Incredible.

At least go and sit through 10 minutes or so before you decide that it sucks.  You can always quietly walk out.

I was being sarcastic.  People in here are basically saying it sucks by saying they've walked out of the theater.  I plan on giving it a shot.   Not everyone has the same taste.  what I may enjoy, you might not.  Going overboard is complaining about footstools and tiny tables and cancelling their cruise bc of it.

You will enjoy your ports.  Good choices.  As for those who feel it is 'luxury', I guess it does beat staying home.  Or they have been convinced by Celebrity that it offers  "Modern Luxury", for whatever that means.  People are correct that it is relaxing on the ship.

Thanks, I agree with you about the ports.

As others have alluded too, you've booked the wrong cruise line. Is it too late to change your booking?

We will be fine. Not sure I can switch ships anyhow as our down payment is nonrefundable. But as I said we will be fine.  Any day my husband is not working is a good day.

If you want the things you listed above for entertainment, you WON"T find them on Celebrity.  It is more low key than the mother ship Royal.

Okay, I know the entertainment sucks on Celebrity.  We will deal with it whatever the situation.  We don't do night clubs so it's not like we need to be out dancing the night away, I read, read, read, read, read, about places I go to so I'm fully aware of what this ship is all about.  I just mentioned I want to see those shows.  It doesn't mean I expect it on Celebrity.

We are D+ on RC and E+ on Celebrity so we know the strengths and weaknesses of both lines well. I am worried for you re your cruise choice....We love Celebrity for its relaxing atmosphere, good food and general restful ambience. However, it does not have the level of show variety or performance as RC....

We board RC for action and adventure and Celebrity for rest and relaxation. Whilst there are several similarities between the lines they are not mirror images.

I suggest you browse several reviews....When you board Equinox you need to look for and enjoy the differences...

I have read lots of reviews and made the decision regardless of the entertainment to go on the Equinox.  I can relax and read a book. napping is not my thing. that's my husband's.  The itinerary (Key West and Grand Caymans mostly) is the main reason we took the ship plus everyone we know telling us Celebrity is their favorite.

P.s. I have no idea what D+ and E+ is. lol  status doesn't matter to me or I'd cruise the same line every time.

You better starting preparing.  The entertainment is not on a par with Royal C.  Sedate is a good term to use.   You have probably heard good things about Celebrity's food and service.  You better not think  that this is a luxury line.  It is a very good mainstream line.

I know the entertainment is not on par. I have read a lot about this cruise and we are doing it for the itinerary and not much more.   I got hurt on the anthem doing roller skating so I can forgo those types of things. Lol. If, though, this is not a luxury line then people need to stop talking like it is but that’s how it’s perceived when I read about it.   We will have a good time despite it being a cruise with older ppl.  We are 60 and 62 respectively but not mentally. Lo. We will be fine.  It may be a one and done but it can’t be any worse than carnival elation. Lol

Agreed. I don’t use (or like if I’m honest) footstools in the real world, so that is hardly going to bug me.

I *am* 100% spoiled to Disney entertainment and service and will admit to being very nervous about trying Celebrity - I still may end up cancelling X and going with DCL, but we shall see.

Oh, I wish but dCL is too pricy for me. Lol. Can’t justify their cost compared to others. 😑

Then again, the Haven spoiled us. 😊

Well, I don't cruise for the entertainment, so I guess I can care about the balcony furniture. 😉

Wow, what do you cruise for? Lol entertainment is essential IMO.  I can’t wait to see hairspray on royal and mamma Mia was awesome on Allure.  I sure as hell hope EQUINOX isn’t going to be ho hum or my husband will never let me forget it. Lol  our last cruise we were enjoying bumper cars.  Granted I know this one is not like that but I don’t enjoy being bored either.  Like I said, I’ve heard nothing but good things about celebrity so I hope it lives up to what little expectations I have.  Not gonna get my hopes up too high so I don’t fall too far. Lol

  13. Oh my goodness.  I’m so glad I don’t take a cruise for footstools and tables on the balcony.  That is the least of our worries.  We are spoiled by the entertainment on royal and I don’t think we will get the same on celebrity but everyone we talk to says celebrity is the best so we are giving it a shot.  Thankfully we chose this ship for it’s good reviews and itinerary for our November 30th cruise.

We just upgraded to Concierge for our August cruise and will have the drink package so not sure I even want this, but if it was in the cabin and chilled when we arrived it would probably be opened. Does orange juice make it tolerable?

wouldn't that sort of be a mimosa?  Worth a try!

True, the cabin attendant should ask if and when you would like your sparkling wine. We have had them do that, which is better for us - if we get a bottle on ice right away, the label is often falling off by the time we use it.

I can't argue with that!  This is why I research the death out of a vacation so I know what I'm getting into.  And this is why these boards are so valuable.  We don't go until November 30th so I should be well informed. lol

Yes! They no longer bring it until you ask for it. When you ask for it they bring it chilled in a bucket of ice.

That's good to know, so thank you for that, but I don't understand why you would have to ask if it's a perk of those cabins.  Even if it is that way, Celebrity should be the ones to tell us.  At least now I know.  That's probably why the recent review had that complaint.  I'm good with the sparkling wine.  I like to add a flavored water enhancer to it to make it even better. 🙂

Glad to hear the positives.  We have sailed on the Equinox many times and have always received exceptional service, were well attended to in our Aqua Class Stateroom, and enjoyed good food and great service in BLU.

We are interested in hearing about the balcony furniture in aqua class.  We use our balcony daily and enjoy our morning coffee while planning our day.  We are sailing on the Equinox again in December.

If your sparkling wine is not in the cabin when you get there (aqua or concierge) is that something you can ask your room steward about? I noticed in one of the most recent reviews that the person complained about that.

We are getting off today from a June 1 b2b with June 8. As good as ever. Rated number 1 large ship by cruise critic. Scored 100 on US Public Health Service snap inspection of ship while we were on it. Staff are outstanding. Yes, the Revolution was not completed due to accident at Nassau dry dock and the ship was diverted to Spain which meant two weeks lost time. We cruised the EQ in  January and only a few things that needed to be refreshed. Some things not done during dry dock where structural and require another dry dock.  Unfortunately, the folks who post tend to be overrepresented by folks who were disappointed in some way. We have cruised Celebrity for 15 years (40 cruises) and our worst cruise was exceptional. Yes, things change as the cruise market is very competitive. If you have a real bad experience and you talk with staff nicely, they will fix those things they can that went wrong.

Thanks for posting this. I read the three latest reviews and am perplexed as to how people perceive things so differently.  From good to horrible.  I tend to take the really bad things with a grain of salt.  Not everyone can be pleased and a lot find fault with the smallest things.  This will be our first cruise with celebrity but not our first cruise ever, so I’m looking forward to it.  On the worst day, a cruise is better than any work day.

That is the $35 Mixology class.  My husband liked the selection of scotches at the bar, but the drinks are pretty limited--they only stock what's on their menu (you can't even get a bottle of water there).  Very nice atmosphere, though, and usually not crowded.

Was thinking of doing the mixology class.  Is it worth it?  That will be the only drinking I do plus the bottle of sparkling wine in my room. 🙂

Yep, that's exactly what we had on Anthem.  It was delicious.  Consider yourself lucky it only took 45 mins.  We were there an hour and a half.lol  Getting into the room early is not a perk, but we were in ours by 1:00 and our luggage was already in the hallway and our carry ons were in our closet.  That part went perfectly.  Sorry you're having a bad time with it.

I was going to purchase for 2 people going with me that are in a separate room.  I put both people in the cart, selected to "pay by guest" since I was going to use 2 different credit cards.  I paid for the one person, when I went to pay for the other one they had already sold out, so I guess the one I purchased was the last one.  So now I have 1 person in a room that has a key and 1 person that doesn't.  That was several weeks ago for a June 30th sailing on Harmony.  I called to see if there was any way to add the key for the 1 person that doesn't have it since that's kinda awkward for 1 to get the perks but the other not to and they wouldn't allow it.  For a week or so The Key just said "check on board".  Now The Key isn't even listed.  I know it's been sold out but I find it odd that they removed it completely instead of just leaving the "check on board".  I guess this was kind of a long way for me to say that I can see how only 1 person in a room can end up with the Key.  At least in this type of situation.

I didn’t think only one in a room could have the key.

I can only speak for our trip last week on Allure, and from reading the comments- the experience varies from ship to ship and even sailing to sailing.

our key logo was not printed on our cards but instead a key logo sticker - mine was a bit lopsided and I had to be careful not to have it pulled off by mistake.

Also of interest,  we did not get our room keys until we were at our door around 145p.  At Chops, I mentioned we were part of the key as we only had our set sail pass- he typed in our room number on the computer and voila - it must be indicated in their system- no problems simply great service.  We did not get our key paperwork until we arrived in the room- in an envelope on the bed- we didn’t really need it before then anyway.  In the envelope were the purple bands but we opted not to wear those and simply showed our card when needed.

I'm curious...what were your purple bands?  no bands on Anthem.  Just the blue one when we dropped off our luggage at the theater and we ended up buying black Wow bands after the fact.  And I was talking the paper set sail pass.  When we got the cards, they had a black sticker key on them.

THANK you for the details! Decided to grab a local hotel and we ll arrive early as well.

Nothing on our Setsail Pass says KEY, suppose we ll all just print off our paid receipts, just in case.

First cruise on Allure... looking forward to it.. but maybe not the gazillion kids I keep hearing about, lol.

Would you mind commenting on RCCL

implementation/lack there of, of adult only areas being Kept, adult only?  Solarium, late nite comedy club, etc?

I can't figure out why there are so many who don't have the Key symbol on their printed set sail passes.  Ours was a black Key right alongside our Gold designation.  You will love Allure and no matter how many people are there, it will never seem crowded unless the parade is going on.  Enjoy her and make sure you see Mamma Mia!  It's fantastic!
