  2. Veendam became one of our favorite ships. 3 cruises to Bermuda...one from New York and two from Boston. And last fall, an Atlantic Coast cruise from Montréal to Fort Lauderdale. We did other small ship cruises on Maasdam and Ryndam. Those days are gone forever. [emoji26]

  3. I would also like to thank everyone who adds to this thread each day. I appreciate those who over the last few days have made their first post after lurking for a while. This is a community effort and I welcome all comments. The responses each day are what keeps the thread going, and while I may not post much past starting the thread, I do read each post and enjoy them.

Thank you, Rich. I’ve not posted for a very looonnnnggg time as I couldn’t get in from my phone. And I’m on my desktop rarely.

I truly enjoy what you’ve done with this thread. Thank you! [emoji173]️

  4. She was scheduled for routine/regular dry-dock work, as well as getting some failing public elevator cabs replaced

Oh, happy day! We were on her to Bermuda last year then 21 days in the Caribbean In January. The elevator situation was dismal.

    Thanks, Copper! [emoji3059]

  5. Haven't been here in a loooonng while but was on my computer and decided to check in!  We were on the Veendam, January 14 to February 4, and with a turn around in Fort Lauderdale and I can't believe we never went out to wave.  No excuse...we were on the Lower Promenade in 427 on the stern right by aft door.  I guess our table in Early Fixed Dining was more important since we left late each time.   Of course, sailaway in January was in the dark at 5 or so!

RE: Eurodam 6 April 7 night Mexican Riviera

Question:  This is my first HAL cruise and just printed my boarding docs ... YEAH!  Now it does describe Gala Night as collard shirts and slacks for men i.e. what I call Business Casual.

Most evenings it says smart casual which has always been abused.  I take that as Business Casual or slacks/nice jeans and button up shirt.

Sadly, the days of black tie and suits are gone.

We disembarked a 21 Collectors Cruise on Veendam on february 4, had fixed Early Dining.  I haven’t seen so many tuxes and suits since we started cruising on HAL 13 years ago.  At the very least, men had a shirt and tie.  We were on the rail so I looked below to Open Seating and saw much the same scenario.

Go to Mariner Status after you sign in, then  scroll down to cruise history

Thanks, Copper!  I tried to find it on my I-phone last night and couldn't.  Will try now from my desktop. We just  disembarked Veendam a week ago today after a 21 day Collectors Cruise.  Bought a ring onboard so I'm anxious to see how that adds up!

  8. There’s a shop right at the port. We were already on board before the 2nd segment of our collectors cruise so it was easy. First segment I purchased wine in one of the many shops in near las ramblas.

  9. Nonsense response. Why shouldn't these HAL passengers (aka travelers) go with our flow and prior expectations there is no public nudity? HAL might go to many places but the ship headquarters and the passenger base are primarily Northern American. (Read your CCL Annual Report).

Considering the length of discussions about smoking, Gala Night and wine policies, slipping public nudity into the mix with no notice is unacceptable. They warn you if you will have an obstructed view or a a view of the lifeboats. Why not warn you before making a cabin choice you will be viewing topless sun bathers - and who knows what else as this clothing-optional barrier has now been broken.

Save your preaching for someone else, kazu. Why choose the verandah deck for this activity. Use you verandah if this is your choice. Or use the ocean view decks if only the ocean view "travelers" demand this option to take over a previously public location. There are other public locations that can serve all people - that can be screened from inadvertent public view and are non-public transit routes between decks.

If you find this so offensive, why not simply select another stateroom? 220 is a lovely location, we’ve enjoyed it on two occasions, but it’s not the “end all and be all”.

As sapper said, “much ado about nothing”.

  10. Well since the question has been asked - yes, I do know of people whose luggage ended up in the drink (water). It was retrieved but everything was soaking wet when it got to their cabin.

Not a nice way to start a cruise. I knew them and, BTW, they didn't believe in tipping. I'm sure it was just an unfortunate accident and not a coincidence

Mine, not Fred’s, ended up in the drink on our May Bermuda cruise on the Veendam. And we tipped $10 for two bags. Everything inside was wet... even my book. Go figure.

Someone from the same cruise posted on here about the same thing.

BTW, the father of one of our daughter’s friends was a longshoreman in Boston. They lived in a VERY expensive home here on the South Shore. I’d guessed he was an executive in Boston...until I read his obituary. His widow lives in a very expensive retirement complex...one that we cannot afford!

  11. We will be taking a Royal Caribbean cruise out of Ft. Lauderdale on New Year's Eve with three other couples. We're heading to Key West and Cuba. Going on Majesty of the Sea which is old but a smaller ship.I have to admit that I'm nervous about the ship. The cabins are very small and it will be my first cruise on a different line. Any HAL fans ever cruise on her?

We haven’t, Carol, but the Majesty is the one who used to do the Boston/Bermuda run I believe.

  12. Yes: Cayuse, Nine Hats, Chateau Ste Michelle and Columbia Crest, all have some good ones.

I know HAL stocks the Nice Hats and it is quite potable.

I like Columbia Crest Grand Estates as well as Chateau Ste Michelle.

  13. Bring on the Charles Shaw. Naaaah, not exotic enough to charge a premim price and HAL cannot get it cheap enough, even in bulk.

There you go: “Two Buck Chuck”. That’s the ticket! 🤩

  14. We were on the Veendam in May- the Bermuda run - and most things were in fine shape. Only issues of any significance were multiple elevators out of order all week. And poor condition of the abortion known as the Retreat. One of the more idiotic ideas HAL has implemented.

Even so, We’re booked again on her nex August, Rome to Boston. Itinerary is the most important consideration to me.

  15. Thanks for the instructions, but I do know this. It just goes round and round when I say pick my own cabin. Nothing loads properly. I know it's not my computer, as it's only a few months old, and I had the same problem with old computer. Same issue if I try to use my ipad. It's just a crappy website. I think people would be happier having a quick, well detailed site, instead of fancy pictures, etc.

The same thing has happened to me. It is outrageous. [emoji35]
