I said we adjusted the amount - you have no way of knowing if it was up or down.

Not that you didn’t leave us any clues.

    Thanks Compozer for your thoughts,

Isn`t Sabatini `s breakfast restaurant only for full suite members and Club Class are not allowed?

Sabatini’s Suite breakfast in May on Sapphire Princess was excellent. No complaints.

  3. For cabins that come with the following perk, is wine included as an alcoholic beverage replenished daily? If so, is there a choice of wines available?

    • Mini-bar with alcoholic beverages, soft drinks, water & snacks (replenished once daily); security safe; hair dryer

And just like your restaurant at home, if you insist on eating at primetime when everyone else does, you may have to wait.

The restaurant at home doesn't set the unrealistic expectation through their marketing that I can walk into their restaurant at ANY TIME and get a table without waiting. Princess does, which was the point.

  5. The Princess description of ATD states “Just like a restaurant at home, Anytime Dining enables guests the freedom to dine when and with whom they wish, at any time between 5:30 PM and 10 PM.”  So the fact that at the end of the day one gets to eat isn’t the issue when their marketing material sets an expectation that it should be when one chooses to dine during that time period.

  6. On Viking’s Rhine Getaway two years ago, we made a stop for people to get off to visit Heidelberg. We’d been to Heidelberg twice before so we stayed on board and sailed for five hours to Speyer, where we visited the Technik Museum on our own which was a short walk from where we docked (it’s an awesome museum if you like older planes and antique cars), then the others who went to Heidelberg returned to the boat in Speyer. We really enjoyed sailing on the sun deck enjoying the scenery with barely anyone else around.

  7. We did the “Dine in Rudesheim” excursion two years ago and loved it. We sailed from Amsterdam to Basel, and by that point had met many of the people on the cruise, about 40 of whom took this excursion. The evening was staged in an open courtyard and the Viking tables were close to the action. There was live music, wine flowed freely, a few games, sing alongs, the food was good and we hadn’t laughed that hard in a long time. As darkness fell, the atmosphere felt like we had been transported back to Germany at the beginning of the last century with everyone eating, drinking, singing and having a great time. It may not be for everyone, but we truly enjoyed it.

  8. As far as I can determine' date=' no ship is still selling paper coffee cards. They have gone to the "coffee package" which is coded onto your cruise card. SO, if you are walking around with a coffee card, they know it didn't come from the current cruise.

Since the unlimited brewed coffee and premium tea are available on the cruise where the card was purchased only, that would not apply to any old card, regardless of where/how it was obtained.

That leaves you with the 15 punches. Hypothetically, they could be used for anything, including a cup of brewed coffee. That sells for $1.25 plus gratuity, so using your 15 punches in that way would make the card worth about $23. Of course, if you used it on the Starbucks type drinks, you'd get better value for it.

Now, factor in that Princess says that if they determine that you are using a third party card, they will confiscate it and it will have no value. That's the risk you take if you purchase on e-bay. How will they determine that you didn't buy it on an earlier cruise? They do have computer records, but I doubt that they'd check.

I don't know what a coffee card is selling for on e-bay....perhaps I should find out, since I have 2 totally blank cards from our April trip. But you have to decide whether the risk of it being confiscated is worth the difference between the e-bay price and the $36 you'd pay for the coffee package.[/quote']

Received paper card on Crown in May. Had expiration printed on back. 36f7f93cad90c16927a2b4c5e37cd66f.jpg10b358b0d355c400878f4e51aa7ef989.jpg

  9. We’ve received price reductions twice on suites we had already booked (yes, it does happen). Twice we paid the price of the suite at time of booking. Booking a suite for us is ship/itinerary dependent and when booking we are willing to pay the price as booked, but constantly monitor the cruise price up until final payment. When we don’t book a suite we book a mini-suite (Club Class since available). This past May we sailed in a Club Class mini on a 11 night Mediterranean itinerary we had booked 18 months in advance, then took advantage of a sale last October and got it for the same price as a regular mini-suite with a ton of OBC. It ended up saving us $3,400 for two on the cruise based upon the original booking price. Even if you use a TA, we’ve found that the best way to save money regardless of the cabin type booked is to constantly monitor it too, weighing the pros/cons of the new promotion offered.

  10. We’ve done both several times. Enjoy the northern route more. Out of Astoria we took a day tour to Mt. St. Helens that was awesome. Butchart Gardens in Victoria always a “must do”. We then enjoy spending an extra day or two in Vancouver, a beautiful city.

  11. We took the Rhine Getaway cruise two years ago which ended in Basel with the Lucerne extension which then was two nights. If same as yours, you would transfer from the ship to Lucerne on Saturday, so Saturday would be your first night in Lucerne. Sunday night would be your second night in Lucerne. You would transfer to the Zurich airport on Monday morning (time departing ship dependent upon your flight departure time). If unsure, call your travel agent (if you used one) or Viking directly if you booked with them. FYI, we really enjoyed the Lucerne extension!

  12. We took this cruise on Grand Princess in 2015. We were curious as to how we’d like the consecutive sea days as are contemplating an ATW cruise or long segment of an ATW cruise down the road which have multiple sets of consecutive sea days. Our normal preference is a port intensive cruise with a few single sea days interspersed during the itinerary. I was fine sailing to Hawaii but was restless on the way back. Would love to have sailed over, visited the islands, stayed 3 days in Maui or Kauai, then flown home.

  13. The above is correct--the big difference between club class and "regular" dining is the improvement in service. You don't have "your" serving team each night' date=' but we were very comfortable with the three teams we experienced. We also noticed a lot more cooperation among teams--openly heard comments like, "Can you get me XYZ?" when someone on another team was heading to the kitchen, or seeing the head server step in when a team was getting at all behind.

The "special" dishes that we tried were all excellent. We had one special item at each lunch and two at each dinner--one was an entree and the other either an appetizer or dessert. Several were pasta, at least two nights it was a steak, one was a fish item.

So no, the difference isn't that we had a gray tablecloth. It was that the team serving us only had 8 guests seated in their area, rather than 16![/quote']

We’ve sailed in Club Class twice in the last year, one 7 day and one 11 day cruise. On both cruises we not only had the same wait staff for breakfast, lunch and dinner, but also the same table for each meal.

  14. Why are you paying such a crazy price? Is it really worth that much?

People who want a specific cruise and cabin will often book that cruise as soon as it becomes available regardless of the price, understanding that very often the price will come down and/or benefits will be added prior to final payment. We booked the Mediterranean cruise we took last month (Club Class Mini) about 18 months in advance. By the time final payment rolled around, we ended up getting the cabin for the same price as a regular mini with a savings of about $3,400 for two based upon our original booking. Is it gamble, yes, but using an FCC or very low down payment to initially book greatly reduces that gamble.

  15. When are you traveling? Delta has a seasonal non-stop Zurich to Atlanta that leaves at 10:15AM. Off season believe you will have to connect through JFK, AMS or CDG on Delta to Atlanta. We took this cruise with the Lucerne extension two years ago. I dug out my documentation and here were the departure times from the hotel in Lucerne to the Zurich airport to give you some idea for planning purposes. We were on the Delta non-stop which at that time left at 10:30AM.

Those on flights from 10:15AM-10:45AM left hotel @ 6:45AM

Those on flight at 12:55PM left hotel @ 9:30AM

Those on flight at 1:35PM left hotel @ 10:00AM

Those on flights that left after 2PM left hotel @ 10:30AM

WOW! That is exactly what I was looking for!! We are traveling next June, so the window to book flights will be open soon......As a Clemson fan, we ALWAYS pull for Auburn when you play Bama!!

Based upon past history they should have the non-stop in June and historically it has departed in the 10-10:30AM timeframe arriving in ATL around 2:30PM. This was a great trip and I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.
