  1. Love this initial post.

We too switch between Celebrity and RCCL. First cruise was the Century in 2000.

Not quite the same cruise line now as it once was but still my favourite.

Tried HAL once and never again, weren't impressed with Princess either.

Still come across a lot of people in the Loyalty Lounges that only cruise one line, their loss ;)

  2. Wow thanks for the update :D

I knew RCCL were having lots of discussions to see what could be done to "fix" DD but I didn't expect Rotational Dining...sounds good though. :D

Rotational Dining does not sound good in the least.

If this is implemented on launch of the Anthem then we would not be proceeding with the cruise. Having read the menus and the concept, we bought into a product. RCCL would be in breach of this description.

Whilst we made bookings at all 3 complimentary restaurants, we have no desire to eat at Silk more than once, and American Icon Grills menu is appauling. We would certainly not pay the considerable sum for this cruise to eat in The Windjammer or be rotated to restaurants.

The concept of My Time Dining is something that suits us. Dynamic Dining sounds inspired.

Moving Weybridge customer services to Guatemala was bad enough, but Rotational Dining is a deal breaker.

  3. I managed to book dining last night. Should you get an email to confirm ?

When I tried to book all my restaurant choices at once, although the transaction was free, I kept get a credit card error at check out, even although it said not required. I then booked each different restaurant in batches and that seemed to work.

Some of the times gone already for this sailing, I will probably tweak once entertainment is known but we tend to eat about 845 and liked MyTime Dining.

  4. Just read internet article citing st Lucia, Antigua, st Croix. Dangerous. Stated that shore excursions robbed. Any truth? What can we do to ensure safety? Stay aboard ship?

Aldo, what is the news re Mosquitos?

St Lucia is a nightmare for taxi hawkers. If you want to do something there take a trip. Been a couple of times and definitely would not advise exiting the terminal on foot. Most of the boat trips leave from the pier and looked a good option. Or enjoy a nice day onboard in a lovely setting :)

Antigua is not so bad. There is a taxi stance at the pier with set prices to popular destinations. We took a cab to Nelsons Dockyard which was really good, and they can arrange a cab back so no need for driver to wait. ATV is great too.

St Croix was unspoilt and beautiful. No problems here, there are taxis at the pier with set rates again. A cab to the beach is 10 mins and not very expensive.

  5. Hi all, Happy Holidays.

Advice please, if I decide to cancel my Celebrity cruise and transfer my deposit to another cruise, does it have to be Celebrity, or can it be Royal Caribbean /Azamara?

I booked a South America round the horn in May onboard for Dec/Jan next year, but the airfares from the UK are extortionate as it us holiday period. Might have to rethink time of year to travel, and would like to use deposit towards something in Europe in the summer....

    Thank you

  6. Can anyone on the forum recommend an agent at Celebrity UK to use to manage an existing booking. The one I used has left, to go independent, don't think you can transfer out an existing booking which is more than 60 days old?

Always was a fan of booking direct, we used to get better discounts, however after the cruise customer service is not so good these days and will probably let an independent agent manage any future bookings.

    Thanks.

  7. Hi all,

We were on the Jewel of the Seas as Diamonds last month. Upon disembarkation our luggage was damaged. We left two suitcases outside our cabin on the last night and when we picked them up at the pier next morning both had cracks in the casing. What now appears to be from a fork lift truck lifting the luggage in a cage.

We reported the damage at the pier and received a form to send to RCCL. We also had to get our bags film wrapped at San Juan airport as we had 3 ongoing international flights, costing $25.00.

After four weeks of waiting for a response from Guest Relations I finally received a phone call today. Was advised that they depreciate bags by 20% per year from the purchase price, which would have left us with nothing as they were around 5 years old. As a gesture of goodwill to loyal repeat guests we got half the price back or the option of a future cruise credit to the full value.

Our insurance company advise a deduction of around $80 excess.

Interesting outcome to something that could happen to us all. Prefer to take off own bags if the option is there, but then they could get damaged on embarkation too.

  8. Hello All,

We have a cruise on the Jewel of the Seas and a flight to Miami from San Juan at 3pm.

Looking for suggestions for the return journey,

    Any suggestions much appreciated...

Thinking Option 1 would be to take a cab to the hotel where we will stay on arrival, Caribe Hilton. And spend morning there where we could store luggage and have some food in comfortable surroundings. Then get a cab to airport about 12 o'clock.

Option 2, would it be worth going straight to the airport and dropping bags with American Airlines and get check in and agriculture check done, then get cab to hotel for a few hours, with just security left when we got back to airport.

Done a bit of research on SJU airport and expect it to be crowded. It is a Saturday and we are the only ship in port.

The ships tours appear to still arrive at airport too early. Thanks.

  10. Hi all,

Has anyone cruised out of San Juan recently, we have been on a few cruises calling here for the day, but never sailed starting here.

    Question 1

Airport procedure on return, American Airlines to Miami about 245pm. Is it agriculture check, airline check in then security?

    Q2

Should we take a ship tour on the final day to either Bacardi Factory or Old Town...or take a cab to the Caribe Hilton where we have a night post cruise, and spend the morning there?

Dont want to be at the airport earlier than necessary as read not too many facilities.

We have a transfer included with airfare but suspect they will drop at airport no later than 10...

    Thanks guys.

  11. It was Ian Creswell on the mid May sailing...very unmemorable. He had an assistant and 2 other staff to assist, so obviously an area of entertainment to suffer huge cutbacks.

He is mentioned in ond of the recent reviews by another passenger.

Gone are the days of the fabulous Dru Pavlov style CDs.

    Have a great sailing...

  12. Any UK cruisers on here who have completed this voyage, I would appreciate your input.

We booked onboard so still deciding whether to appoint a travel agent or leave booking with Celebrity.

Thinking British Airways would be good from Heathrow to Buenos Aires with an internal flight to Santiago. Ship returns to Buenos Aires.

    Thanks
