  1. Hello

I'm off on Ventura on Saturday and I have a few newbie questions.

Is the welcome pack of shampoo, shower gel enough for a week or should I take my own?

Do p and o supply body lotion?

Will I need a plug adaptor?

As a regular at the gym I was wondering what the procedure is...do we need to book in and are there lockers for valuables ?  Is there a water fountain with plastic cups or do we need our own water bottles?

Thank you for all your advice so far,  I am so looking forward to trying out a cruise.

  2. We are booked on this cruise which leaves in less than 2 weeks. Cabin C322 if anyone has stayed in there?

I cannot find a roll call so I am very excited as this probably means we have the whole ship to ourselves :D:D

I'm coming :) Although as a solo that means so far there will be 3 of us!

  3. Are you sure the glass house will be open for food on embarkation day? They use this as a muster station venue which normally happens at around 4:00-4:30pm so seems unlikely to me.

Oh well I might have to miss lunch and make up for it at dinner .

  4. I have found on the Eavesway coach I use which comes from some distance up North (I join at the last stop Northampton) that unless there is a major hold up the coaches start to come in at 1pm even though it says 3pm on the information. The latest our route ever arrived was 1.45pm. Road hold ups of course make things change.

The buffet is horrendous on embarkation so very busy. The Glasshouse will be serving and there should be something you will like there, although they do offer small burgers (sliders). There is a lot of choice on the 3 small plates menu where you mix and match from approx 9 choices for I think £6.95 now.

Thanks, I think I might head for the Glass House then. Will probably be more relaxed there as well.

  5. My coach is scheduled to arrive st 3pm so am wondering if buffet will be closed by then. Would glass house be serving on embarkation day as I don’t eat burgers pizza chips etc ? Or any other restaurant for light lunch as I am booked into late sitting and don’t think I would last till then! Not to mention a couple of drinks on an empty stomach might not be the best thing for a first time cruiser.

3 weeks tomorrow and so excited .

  6. No its not OK. Either purchase one at a bar pre dinner and take in, or ask the waiter/wine waiter to get you one. Please do not take your own into dinner. Would you do that in a hotel?

Which is why I asked because I didn’t know that wine waiters would also bring spirits. I had a friend who went on a short cruise on Ventura last year and the wine waiters wouldn’t serve spirits or beer only wine.

Surely that is what this board is about, to ask questions and hopefully get nice helpful replies!

  7. Hi

I have just read that there will be themed nights for 60's and 70's on my cruise.

What is the expected dress code for themed nights? Im not sure I would feel comfortable dressing in 60's or 70's gear as a solo cruiser. Would we still be allowed in MDR if we were just smartly dressed?

    thanks

  8. Are there any benefits when booking your next cruise whilst on board?

Do you need to do your research before going to the desk or are they happy to spend a bit of time going through various options? I only ask being a solo cruiser it seems that quite often a twin room for one is cheaper than a single cabin.

I am already assuming I will love my first cruise so much that I will need another one early next year!

  9. Thank you, I didn’t realise they did afternoon tea with a meet up table for solos as well. Not sure my waistline will benefit from too much tea and cake!

There are so many positive posts for travelling solo. This is the first time I have holidayed anywhere on my own and I am realising what a good choice cruising is.

  10. Thank you for some great tips. I have been allocated set dining and requested a large table in mdr.

The deck games sounds great and I shall certainly go to the bar at the top of ship for some relaxation and reading. Good point re getting off at port as I am nervous about missing the ship so will get off early to ensure I can be back mid afternoon.

I'm so excited to actually being able to please myself for a change and can't wait to see what activities I can plan for myself throughout the day.

    Thanks again.

  11. Finally decided to go it alone and have booked on Ventura for 7 nights 20th October this year.

I'm 53 so hoping there will be a few around 50's 60's at the solo meet up. Other than the meeting and I have requested dining with other single passengers, are there any tips to meet cruisers who are also on their own.

I'm quite happy with exploring and going to gym classes etc but not sure how I will feel sat at the bar on my own.

So excited now, I would love to be hooked on cruising as it does seem a really great holiday for solos.

  12. Of course, if you put it in your suitcase, you can always take another litre in your hand luggage, as suitcases are not connected to individual passengers during the screening process.

Thanks, I doubt whether I would go through more than a litre of spirits in a week on my own. I will treat myself to a nice bottle for my pre dinner drink and use the cruise lines gin for any other time .

Easier to pack it in suitcase than carry with me .
