  1. Thanks for the answer. I think I may need to clarify.

My scheduled March 2020 cruise was one of the first cruises to be cancelled.

My understanding was that these cruisers were entitled to not only a refund, but also a full credit for their cruise. After all, we were about to get on the plane. I did not ask for hotel, car reimbursements as I could cancel at no charge.

I was stuck with a SWA credit of $1,000+

Is anyone here that was part of that first weekend with HAL and what was received (if I recall, the offer came from HAL President via email).

    Thanks again.

  2. Hello, thanks in advance for any insight you may provide.

We were scheduled for a mid-March cruise in 2020 and the cruise was cancelled 48 hours before departure.

My understanding was that HAL was going to give a Refund (I did this through my credit card after waiting months) AND a FCC that equaled the cost of the cruise, x 125%. In other words, we would get our $$ back AND get most of a free cruise in the future for our trouble. This cruise was booked through a 3rd party.

Additionally, I was told that I would ALSO be receiving $225 pp OB for my trouble.

Fast forward, I put a refundable deposit down for the same cruise in 2021. Now, it too has been cancelled. This one was booked through HAL. I never got to the point of having my "full cruise x 125% FCC calculated" to know if all the credits were applied, as the deposit was put down this summer and I was told that HAL was still "behind in doing everyone's credits". For this cruise, I am told that if I rebook, my $350 deposit would be doubled for the inconvenience ($700).

But, when I inquired about my "free cruise x 125% FCC", I was told that the original outside TA "has to process paperwork, I would have to PAY the fare to get the 125%, and that would turn into my credit".

I don't think my HAL Advisor is intentionally screwing me over, I just think it's a mess.

Can anyone help explain what I am due? THANKS!

  3. Thinking about a Caribbean cruise on the Nieuw Amsterdam this Spring.

Family of 3, including a 14 year old.

We would prefer mid-ship, lower and a nice balcony.

I've read about the possible view of the tops of the lifeboats, I don't think we'd care about that, but we would want a good balcony and a quiet cabin.

    Suggestions? Thanks.

Not at all - just a reminder that one nutritionally does not "need" much meat to have a balanced diet if one choose to eat a meat inclusive dietary plan, but no lecture at all about being able to enjoy as much as you want.

Eat as much as you want.  Enjoy. Who would ever stop a just 4 ounces at Ruth's Chris Steakhouses?  Yum. (PS- there is one right across from the dock in San Deigo)

Be careful Roz, or you'll be reported for telling it like it is and your post will be removed.

  5. Old Salt- So, those of us with dietary restrictions should pay extra? You've made this ignorant comment before.

My choice as a person as someone with Celiac Disease is either pay more or poison myself?

Thanks for your concern for humanity. Sorry that our genetics inconvenience you.

  6. We'll be leaving on the Eurodam on May 25th from Seattle.

1st time cruisers, we're a couple and our 13 year old.

Everything we read was that although HAL is typically older folks, Alaska is more of a mix. Daughter will probably hang more with us and use the pool daily, its covered, so that helped our decision.

Key for us was airfare cost to Seattle and Glacier Bay being included.

If it wasnt Alaska with the ports, maybe we'd be more concerned keeping her entertained, but we think the week will go fast.

    Whatever you choose, have fun.

I suspect at some point in the near future mass market cruise lines will become unable to respond to these minute "dietary" demands, as much as the airlines are now having to severely limit passenger demands for their "support" animals. I think it is unrealistic for anyone with such "life-threatening" dietary considerations to demand they have exactly the same experience onboard a cruise ship as those in the general population.

Stay away from the Lido, stick to the MDR and your prior official special diet requests and know compromises and accommodations work both ways. To demand separate but equal food preparation for every single food item offered the general passenger, along with individual staff attention to each single food offering to the general public is in my mind unrealistic.

Why are you even concerned with this?

Millions of Americans, not to mention the world, have serious dietary requirements that sometimes can be fatal.

This thread is clearly marked for those of us with Celiac Disease and/or gluten issues. Why are you here, to cause drama?

1 in 150 Americans have Celiac Disease. Many more have other issues.

You are clearly unconcerned about anyone but yourself, otherwise you would educate yourself, instead of ostracize yourself.
