I am in the UK Shannon m and it's with The Post Office . I know some people on the ship were worse off than us they had much farther to get home than we did , Canada America etc I think flights to the UK were more frequent than to those places but we had to stay two extra days ourselves .
I posted here as I thought some of the other people affected may post.
I am sorry for all the problems you encountered. It's unrealistic to think NCL or any other cruise line are perfect and cruise companies need feedback on their performance , especially where disabled or vulnerable guest are involved.
Take care
Thank you

Hi chrislordsNCL
Thank you for your kind wishes. Indeed fingers crossed. If the outcome is not positive I shall definitely get someone with Insurance knowledge to go through the policy for me.

Hi ollienbertsmum
Thank you so much for your kind response. I have of course appealed the decision today and asked to speak to a manager to explain why such an unexpected event completely out of our control cannot be covered in missed departures.she read out only what is covered i.e. Car breakdowns non way to airport , motorway hold up, plane delays . No mention in covered or excluded of incidents at sea yet it covers cruises ?
I await the call tomorrow.
Yes noted the majority of the policy is discussing medical emergencies and exclusions. Perhaps a cruise specialist dealing in Travel insurance would know the correct policy to take out, jumpers included !
Thanks again

Hi Shannon m
I was on the ship and i have posted a question regarding a claim on my travel Insurance.
They have advised today that my claim is not covered ? I wonder if anyone has had a claim accepted.
I also experienced the lack of any real help in re booking flights and accommodation .
The eventual disembarkation was chaotic. We witnessed a lady fall on the escalator due to being rushed off . I took these points up with NCL but no reply and I had to make 3 phone call to secure a letter concerning the reason the ship was delayed as requested by my insurance.
This was my first cruise I travelled with two of my daughters and my granddaughter.
I think unless someone is in the situation we found ourselves in it's difficult to describe the panic and chaos.
I am sorry if I have posted my question about insurance on the wrong forum but I am desperately upset about the money I have lost due to this unexpected and unforeseen event.
Thank you

Hi all
I have just joined this board as I was on board The Star when the lady jumped.
I have just been contacted by my Travel Insurance company and they are denying my claim ! To say I am devastated is an understatement. Apparently they believe that as the policy does not include someone going overboard leading to missing departure home it isn't covered.
I pointed out it doesn't exclude it either . The policy covers cruises so although it's not usual it's always possible.
Has anyone had a claim accepted ?

I joined cruise critic so that I could check if anyone aboard the NCL Star had had a refusal from their Travel Insurance regarding missed departures due to the incident that day .
I chose not to go into detail how that day unfolded because it was distressing and I felt it was not relevant to my question.
That right or wrong is just my decision
It does not mean that in order to choose to holiday on a cruise a guest should be prepared to react to any situation on board in a manner you and others deem acceptable. They are judged if they moan or criticise the cruise lines actions . Told to choose a different type of holiday ?
This overlooks the fact that people are not cruising for free and are allowed to expect a certain level of service.
Whilst a guest on a cruise ship we are all under the care of the Captain and crew anything that happens to make you feel uncared for or vulnerable should be addressed.
Thankfully Shannon others on the boards can offer real help and answer questions and empathise with your predicament.
I shall of course keep you updated about the outcome of my Insurance claim and wish you many happier holidays in the future.
Regards
Peggy
