Fun and low cost for beginners in Juneau.
Thanks that might just fit the bill!

Looking for somewhere where we could do some casual fishing (we're beginners) either en route to Denali, in the Anchorage area, or on our stop in Juneau.
We are a family with 12 and 16 year old boys. Don't want any fancy big day trips or need a plane to get there sort of thing.
Any recs greatly appreciated.

What were the pools like? In terms of crowds, heat. Etc.

Thank you we are doing the same in a few weeks time including the glacier cruise before. One question what did you do with your luggage. Could you check it in at Anchorage before you took the train.

bump. hoping someone has opinion

My elder son and I are planning on doing the train and bike back tour, but for my wife and younger son we're debating on whether they just do a round trip tour or whether they should do a tour that's to Fraser and then return via bus with photo stops.
Any perspectives? One thing worth mentioning is that my wife and younger son do get motion sickness, and I'm not sure how twisty windy the road is.
Any perspectives?

Even $600 seems high. I got a full size from Avis (Anch Airport pick up/return) for $285 for 6 days (I expect a week is not much more if not the same) last week of June using my company's discount (which I'm allowed to do for personal). Plenty of discount codes available if you look.
I did try doing a one way drop to Whittier. I was willing to pay the drop fee which was $100 or $150, but interestingly not only was there a drop fee, but the rate went massively up (which I think is a bit bogus), adding $500 on top, so we are just doing the train instead from Anch to Whittier.

If you choose the southbound cruise, just do a 26 Glacier cruise out of Whittier before you depart, and you'll see plenty of tidewater glaciers in College Inlet up close.
This is what I am choosing to do. This way I get College Fjord, Hubbard, and Glacier Bay, and Mendenhall in Juneau. I expect I'll never want to see another glacier again after....

Was just wondering if anyone had seen any deals. I expect not, but just in case...

It's 10 years on.... Any thoughts on which one to go with or the pros/cons of each?

Thanks Colorado Mum. That was the option I was leaning to. Did you consider doing a one way drop of a car (I think Avis is the only option). I figured I could stop a couple of times if I did that, but wasn't sure what I'd do about the luggage.

Unfortunately Michelle at Island Wings did not get any Anan permits for 2019.
I found Carlin and Family Air Tours, which both have great ratings.
Any thoughts on them or others?

I'm in the same situation.
Can you actually drop your luggage off at say noon, then do the Galcier tour and then board the Princess Cruise, even if we drive to Whittier rather than take the train.

I'm thinking of booking for my day in port on July 8th 2019. I've done some research on some other posts, but I had a few more questions:
1) Is this too early in the season, and am I better off going somewhere else?
2) Island Wings seems to have great reviews. Any other recommendations?
3) My wife suffers a bad back. How tough is the trail and stairs to the entrance?
4) Booking: Seems like I need to book now or very soon. Is that right?
Thanks in advance

I'm planning on doing this next year. From what I can tell it's pretty standard, and lots of people do it before boarding. In fact I believe it's a princess excursion offer for passengers doing the immediate round trip back.

Binoculars
in Alaska
Much thanks to all who replied. Ordered a pair of Nikon Monarchs. Will return if doesnt work

So going to be doing Denali late June, back to Anchorage July 1, and on a boat July 3rd to 10th.
Trying to work out what my best shot at seeing bears is at that time.
Here are my options (add if you think I'm missing one)
- Hopefully see one in Denali
- Flightseeing from Anchorage - options Katmai, Lake Clark, Chinitna Bay, Redoubt Bay Lodge
- On one of the cruise stops (we stop at Juneau, Skagway, Ketchikan) - perhaps Admiralty Island or Chichagof Island in Juneau
Not sure I have time to make it down to Homer. Also given I'm sure it varies season to season and day to day, how late can I leave it to book?

Binoculars

I'm not sure I can justify 4 figures, I was thinking more like a couple of hundred bucks.
Saw this Nikon 7577 MONARCH 5 10x42 Binocular - seems well reviewed on Amazon

Did anyone buy a good pair of binoculars for the trip? Was it worth it? Any recommendations?

If we dock at 7.30 in Vancouverfrom Seward, what's usually the last time we can get off. FWIW the ship sails back at 4.30.

Got two premium balconies - C509, C515 (apparently next to each other).
Wanted to say a big thank you to this community to people who posted to my questions and those who made good posts I used to help pick itinerary and boat. The boat seems to have good viewing, I get to Hubbard Glacier and Glacier Bay and I think I will try and do the 26 glacier tour in Whittier the afternoon before boarding, Hopefully my 12 and 16 year old boys will enjoy too.
I will try and give back to the community after I have done the trip by way of thanks.

We are family of 4 - 2 boys 12 and 16. Was thinking ideal would be 2 balcony cabins next to each other coastal side. Oh and ideally low and middle since my wife and youngest are prone to motion sickness.

I'm trying to book on the coral princess on July 3rd, but it seems more than 85pct sold out with very limited cabin selection. Is this the norm. Have I left it too late?
A couple of questions.
1) Will different rooms be available on different sites?
2) Do rooms open up, i.e. they're not really sold?
3) Is it easy to swap rooms?
