Just my thoughts on this, you living, breathing beautiful 50 year old!  It is hard for me to understood people worrying about their age, or worse yet....shaving years off.  I know I am in the minority, but....  I just turned 60.  I look damn fine for 60, but I look like crap for 50 lol.  Let people ooooh and aaaah and “I don’t believe you!” As opposed to thinking “oh dear!”  Sometimes I am tempted to ADD years, so they think “WOW!!” (But I cannot lie)

Truthfully, I have found that, once you have buried a few friends your age or younger, you will come to realize every day this side of the grass should be embraced.  Not resented or hidden.  Aging is a gift denied SO many.

    Celebrate gorgeous!

    Love it 💕

Just tell people you are celebrating your 10th anniversary (of your 40th birthday).

    Exactly.  My forty-tenth.

You guys have it all wrong, wife tells people she's ten years older than she is and then they tell her how good she looks.  Works every time. :classic_tongue:

Haha I love this one.  Well, I would love it....until someone says....”oh, that’s about what I’d guessed”!

Oh, come on! Just shave off 10 years... 😉

VT, I love your thinking.  Of course, my DH would then have an almost-inappropriately younger wife, but that’s probably something he’d be proud of!  I’ve been telling people it’s my forty-tenth birthday, and that somehow sounds a little less middle aged than fifty!

  4. We’re sailing for the first time in a few weeks, and will be in a suite.  I read about the various staff that will be assisting to make our cruise fabulous, and am trying to work out who does what. I especially want to know who I may want to tip on top of pre-paid gratuities.  Can someone please give me an idea of what each of these people do?  Thanks in advance.

  5. I quite like the look of the menu in Blu; have you considered that as an option?  Perhaps not for your celebration night, but it depends on your taste. To be clear, I haven’t sailed yet myself, so I am not speaking from any first hand knowledge; purely from perusing menus on here. I’m not sure if Suite guests can eat at Blu as standard, but I’m sure you’d have no trouble getting a reservation.

  6. What’s clear to me is that pretty much anything is accepted if it involves long pants and a collar (the T-shirt thing above seems a real anomaly).  But since I will be making a bit of effort on evening chic nights, the least DH can do is is a dress shirt - I will leave the tie as a choice for him.  Choose your battles, I say! 😉😂

Yes....you can wear what you have described.  We saw a lot of shorts in the MDR for breakfast and lunch (and also t-shirts, though I would wear more "dressy" t-shirts).  Being in the Caribbean, I lived in shorts except for the evenings.

As others have said, no shorts in the MDR for dinner.

I will add that on our 12/2018 Silhouette cruise, I saw folks enter the MDR with baseball caps and be asked to remove them (not allowed!). This was for breakfast and lunch.  Did not see anyone try to wear a head to dinner, though.

Thanks Denie.  I’d imagine DH will have to be coerced into trousers for dinner, because he lives in shorts too!

Jeans (no rips or tears) are within the Celebrity Smart Casual dresscode.

Thank you, Ben.  DH was pleased to hear that, although I suspect that in the Pacific Islands in mid March, he may be happier in light trousers!

Yes, this is fine. I have worn shorts in the MDR at Breakfast, ahead of a day's sightseeing. No shorts in the evening.

no problem, also, wearing a smart polo shirt in the evening.  Again, I have done this regularly.

Thank you for the response, DYKWIA.  There’s so much information on the dress code on these forums, but it was difficult to find those specific answers.

  10. We have our first sailing on Solstice in March, and I have questions about the dress code for DH.  Is it acceptable for men to wear dress shorts (not denim, not too short) in the MDR for breakfast and lunch?  Also, are polo shirts ok for the non-chic evenings with trousers?  They have a collar, but are short sleeved.  Or is short sleeved unacceptable for dinner?

It seems so much easier for women!  A few sundresses and a cocktail dress, and our evenings are sorted!

  11. Thank you both for the replies.  I think I will call Celebrity.  Kkmiausa, I have no idea what the cruise contract is, so I’m not sure that will be much help!  I have the confirmation from my (reputable large national) TA, and my payment confirmation.  That’s it.  I have checked in online, so everything seems ok, but it was just the package information that was missing.  So I’ll give them a call.

  12. We are sailing for our first cruise on Solstice in March, and have the Go Best package.  However when I log in to the Celebrity website, and even after checking in, the premium drinks package and internet package are not shown anywhere except as options to purchase.  The onboard credit shows, but no other perks. Is this normal?  Should I seek confirmation from Celebrity? Currently I just have our TA confirmation. I’m not sure whether to be concerned or not.

  13. Denny, I take your point, but I just want to clarify what I said about the furnishings.  I said...

“his first comment was that the chairs looked like they were created for aesthetics, not comfort.  I will be looking with interest at what the first few reviews from forum members make of them.”

i think it’s ok to make a judgement on what we see, as long as we acknowledge that it’s only based on this, and not on experience. Also, I have pointed out that member opinions will inform me better.

Please don’t assume we are all out to distort the facts.  Merely making a passing observation in this case!

I want to love this ship but from the pictures not so sure.  Lots of uncomfortable chairs, Martini Bar won’t be the same, closet space in the infinite veranda is a joke and forget about breakfast on the veranda.

Interesting that you mention the chairs.  DH just looked through the pictures and his first comment was that the chairs looked like they were created for aesthetics, not comfort.  I will be looking with interest at what the first few reviews from forum members make of them.

  15. Wow thanks for going to all that trouble, Jane.  I called my TA about the Celebrity guest confirmation and he confirmed that I will get that when their booking agent confirms payment to Celebrity. I’ll be referring back to your picture to understand it when I get it!

I’m feeling far more confident that everything is in order after this thread and another conversation with my TA, thanks everyone.

Now I can enjoy the countdown...138 days to go!

Here are screenshots from my current (Celebrity Suite) booking with “Go Best” perks. That includes premium package, gratuities, unlimited wifi and $300 per cabin of OBC.

Thanks so much for sharing this, Jane.  My invoice looks quite different, but I understand that my Travel Agent uses their own system.  I will definitely ask for the Celebrity booking confirmation though.

I’m confident that my TA has confirmed to me in writing that he has confirmed the perks with Celebrity, so I think instead of worrying about it now (about 5 months out from cruise date), I will wait until I can check in online, and see what happens then.

We are in a Celebrity Suite, so I believe someone will contact us before we cruise, so I can confirm it with them if I’m still unsure.  At that point I can go and wave hs email in front of my TA if necessary!

  17. We’re going on our first cruise in March on the Solstice, and have treated ourselves to a Suite because it’s for a special occasion. My Travel Agent advised that our package included $300 each OC, premium drinks package, gratuities and wifi.

The OC shows up on our booking on the Celebrity website, and on our invoice.  However none of the other perks do.  I asked my TA about this, and he confirmed back by email that he had checked with Celebrity, and these were definitely included.  I called Celebrity myself (for another reason) and the agent on the phone said she “couldn’t see in her system” what was included.

My question is....is it normal that I can’t see the other perks yet, or should I be worried?  Note that I have used a reputable and large TA.

I would recommend October or November. It's warming up but should still be quite pleasant. Any later than that and you will strike school holidays, possible wet weather and cyclones.  Definitely do not choose December or January as the kids are out on summer vacation.  Maybe mid to late March into early April.  The weather will still be warm/hot.

We booked a cruise from Sydney to NZ for next year.  You guessed it.  I chose October.

I think the OP wanted to avoid school holidays, so should be aware that there are holidays in October.  Also the weather is really unpredictable in October.  There was snow up to 2 weeks ago in parts of NZ....yes, even in the North Island.  And a LOT of rain!!
