If you are packing for rainy weather, then you might want to think about a waterproof day pack.  Also, if you have a thin hooded rain shell, a ball cap is useful for keeping the hood out of your eyes.

Binoculars might be useful if you are going hiking near Sagueney or Mt Desert.

Thanks binoculars is something I didnt think of.I hope it doesnt rain but Ill be prepared. Thx

I have been on CC for 13 years, reading daily, and I have no idea what "signature" means; not something that has ever come up in my experience.

Surely it would have been easy enough, early on, to type "sailing from Boston to Saint John, Halifax, Quebec.....".  All possible ports have the potential for different weather and needs.

    I'm done.

I didnt have to tell anyone where i was going in the Fall for a New England anyway, really. I asked about other essentials for a FALL cruise Period.

Me either. It doesn't show when I use my phone. I have to expand that signature if I want to see anything extra.

I see everyones signatures if they have them set on public. Mine is public. If anyone cant see it then THEY have signatures turned off on their option setting.

The weather can really vary at at the end of September. Living in NE all my life, there are warm days and more moderate temps. I see you live in MN so maybe you have the same type weather. I have taken many Canada/NE cruises at different months. I never packed heavy clothing or waterproof boots. I wear sneakers. Are you planning to be outdoors a lot? I usually consider the weather in my area and plan on it being slightly cooler.

The best advice going anywhere is look at the extended forecast and you can get a good idea of what to expect and pack accordingly.

yes, Im sure I could repack a few things if I checked weather before leaving, but its a 10 day cruise so weather could vary even during that time Im already on the ship. Im still packing waterproof boots to hike in and if it ends up  being rainy days out our feet will be dry while off the ship.We pack layers too.We plan to be outdoors all day at all ports.Besides clothing though, I asked about other essentials I  probably havent thought of.yet. We usually go on Caribbean cruises and this is quite different

  5. This will be our first cruise to a cool weather location in the Fall for 10 days. We like to pack light and wear clothing more than once. Im writing a list of essentials besides the usual packed clothing. *Light jackets that are moisture resistant. *Pants, tops, *sweaters to wear over tops and a few dresses, shoes, *boots that are water resistant with slip soles, What are other essentials that we shouldnt forget and have come in handy?

  6. We recently visited Key West on the Carnival Conquest. We headed out shortly after 8am for a full day of exploring Key West on foot. We had been to Key West once before and did the trolley, so we were familiar enough to have a plan for exploring today. I like to enjoy some themed reading prior to vacations, so I had read the book “Key West History of an Island of Dreams” by Maureen Ogle which was fascinating – I highly recommend it if you enjoy history. The weather was great and it was nice and empty in the port area (docked near the Westin) to get some pictures, and over at the red bricked Customs House where the lifelike statues are located. We headed down Whitehead past Hemingway House (we toured this previously), the Lighthouse and on to the end of Highway 1, before continuing to the Southernmost Point for a picture. We also walked over to tiny South Beach, past the Southernmost House and back up to the Butterfly House (helpful hint: the gift shop here has a public bathroom in addition to some beautiful butterfly gift items) We also did a bit of geocaching in Key West; which is a treasure hunt using a GPS device and is found worldwide. It is a great activity and you can learn more about it at geocachingdotcom.

We then felt ourselves drawn to Kermit’s for a frozen chocolate covered key lime pie on a stick. Delicious and decadent! Next stop was the interesting Key West Cemetery, which has some really unusual and old headstones, including one that says “I told you I was sick”! We continued on using the historic walking tour map to see some of the highlights listed including the free tour of the Oldest House and gardens. Really enjoyed all the beautiful homes, architectural styles, tropical gardens and pastel colors. Back on Duval, we toured some of the numerous bars enjoying the live music, and stopped for a beer at Sloppy Joe’s where I had been enjoying their web cam leading up to the cruise. Refreshed we were ready to continue on to the beautiful historic marina area called The Bight. It is a boardwalk along the harbor where all the yachts are moored, past many lovely shops and restaurants. This is a really beautiful area if Duval Street gets a little too hectic for you. There is also another Kermit’s near here with the “baker” who will pose for pictures. Time to head back to Mallory Square for some shopping before boarding the ship.

We thoroughly enjoyed our day even if our feet were less enthusiastic! It was a pleasant weather day in the 70's, which helped a lot. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes for any walking tour. The cemetery and historic tour maps can be found online for advance planning.

Thank you so much, this I exactly what we were looking for advicewise, we have never been to KW and chose this cruise with that in mind. I knew I wanted to tour the Hemmingway house, see the cats, and have pie :) Oh and a photo at the pier post. This advice organizes the time and more to see. :)

  7. Wow that sounds encouraging what you are going to do, and have done recently. I have a few boxes of, and shelves of photos and partially done scrapbooks and folders...of good intentions. I have an old scrapbook my Dad had made in Germany when he was in the Army, it is basically photos falling off the pages ,,, and I'd like to get that reorganized and fixed up too ... lots of projects. So I love this idea of doing it as you go along, so much more fun, efficient, and yes....it gets done :)

Have a great cruise...enjoy....we are looking forward to one in Dec too.

  8. yes that is correct, this I knew. But are there rooms that would have BOTH a larger bed (or 2 twins that make the larger bed which is always how that goes on insides) PLUS a bunk that comes down???

  9. Loved looking through your post on Aruba. We (my husband, my 15 yr old granddaughter, and myself) will be on a cruise in December this year and a stop in Aruba and Curacao (among Amber Cove and Santo Domingo)...loved seeing these fabulous photos too, I hope to take some as nice. My husband is interested in a trike excursion in the desert of Aruba and I am looking forward to Eagle Beach and sightseeing. Curacao my favorite will be the waterfront areas. I will read through this a few times more I am sure, before we leave in 139 days !!! Thanks for sharing.

  10. Our cruise on the Splendor will be here on December 20. I am doing research on things to do on this stop. Sounds like the port is amazing and new. I also see there are independent excursion options and am looking into those as well. Inviting others who have been here, to contribute information/suggestions/photos to help others understand options on this new port Carnival offers. Thank you :)
