Here is post #114 from the thread island lady provided you that should clear up your concerns.

"In a statement to travel agents, Royal Caribbean issued the following statement:

Royal Caribbean reviews and adjusts itineraries and deployments every year.

The rumors regarding cancellations of sailings departing between April 2020 – March 2021 from San Juan are incorrect. We have not cancelled any of our ships visiting or homeporting in San Juan.

Though we have not yet announced our full 2021-2022 deployments, we do expect fewer calls from San Juan for the 2021-2022 season and we will be able to provide more details once we have announced our itineraries.

No decisions regarding deployment beyond those dates have yet been made.

On Tuesday, some news outlets in Puerto Rico began reporting Royal Caribbean was planning to cancel 90 calls to San Juan, Puerto Rico for the 2020 and 2021 season".

    Thanks!

  2. Researching for our upcoming trip.  Any 1/2 day snorkeling tour recommendations?  We are novices.  Also, would like either tour from he cruise dock or with transport.  Thanks!

My DH stored his tuxedo in the back of his closet.

Now he wears suits with tie on gala night.  He still likes to dress up a little.

Ggpood to know.  I am planning to wear coat & tie for Gala nights.  Just because I don’t get to wear one anymore.  ( I’m an RN)

We've been going to Alaska every year for the last 15 years or so. We do something different every year. This we are talking about doing this taxi tour in Ketchikan   https://ketchikantaxicabtours.com/?

Hi. Hoping you can help since this is our 1st time in Ketchikan.  Totem Bight or  Saxman?  We are only in port for about 5-1/2 hours and hoping to hike Rainbird trail.  Which would you suggest?  Thanks.

Oh most definitely I'm not giving advice at all, lol.  We also purchased long ago at a decent price just for an investment along with the OBC perk.  It has served us well over the years, so no worries here.  Just watching along with everyone else, as my 401K goes up and down like a rollercoaster, 🤣.  Long term, is to just stay put and not react to all this movement and not to panic, but of course that depends on your age and if you can afford to sit and just wait it out.  🤔

plus, add in the $100 OBC

    Thanks Fletch 1,

A quick question - do you or anyone on this board ever take out a "Cruise Protection Plan" with Holland America which allows you to cancel for whatever reason up to 24 hours prior to the cruise. It costs a couple of hundred dollars and it not refundable.

You get back 80% for the total cruise cost at that time.

    Any thoughts welcome!

    Rick

I started to but then went with traditional trip insurance.  Saved a few $$.  As mentioned, need a reason for canceling but I wouldn’t cancel without a reason. Although if this government shutdown starts afffecting air travel...

Good points Andy.  The mass marketers have trained a large portion of the cruising population to expect minuscule deposits and flexible payment dates.  Viking is as different from these mass market lines in so many ways, the payment terms are but one area.  In fact I would stretch it to say that the only thing the Carnival brands and Viking have in common is that they both float....... Unless you count the occasional Costa.😳

  8. I think you missed the part of my post where I mentioned I was almost certain the CSA did not mention the phrase “per person “ when I specifically asked him about the cancellation fee.  Maybe I misheard or he misspoke.  Either way, the transaction left a bad taste in my mouth for Viking.  Had I understood a 20% forfeiture of my deposit would occur for a cruise more than 12 months out,  I would have waited.

I have found HAL to be upfront, flexible and excellent to deal with re: dates, changing flights, excursions, etc.  so I will just stay with them.  Lesson learned.
