  1. Does anyone have any suggestions of what to do in Ensenada in January?  I assume, as in every port there will be people and cabs by the pier offering to take passengers different places?  Any suggestions of good inexpensive places to go.  My husband and I will be traveling with our son and daughter in law.

Please direct me to any other post mentioning a slot machine "tipping over and falling one a woman's head" other than your posts.  The OP who wrote a review said he himself asked the casino staff about it and they told him that the women slipped and fell into the slot machine, that one did not tip over.  As far as the news reporting it...was that in the same report which said that the ship listed 45 degrees putting deck 6 under water?

And a slot machine weighs between 200-250 pounds.  You can google that.  Someone mentioned they own real slot machines and they are actually more than 250 pounds.

So again, a 16 degree list tipping a 250 pound metal machine onto a woman's head in which the only reports of it happening are your daughter and the news and their half the ship was in the ocean report seems highly unlikely.  Sorry.

I don't want to say that your daughter was mistaken or exaggerating but....

You are the only one reporting that a 250 pound slot machine "fell over on a woman's head".  Others have reported that the woman stumbled and hit her head on a slot machine, which makes sense.  But a 16 degree list (as reported by the captain) is hardly enough to topple a 250 metal device.  Let alone that the slot machines are usually connected, and somehow this machine is the only one that toppled over.  But who knows, maybe it happened and no one else saw it.

That is absolutely not true; I read about the slot machine here and/or on the news first (several times) and then asked her about it.  And I never said a 250 lb. slot machine; none of us weighed it and neither did you. Lots of people saw it.  I am not asking you to believe it and I am done commenting on it.  There was no reason for anyone to make it up, other than the weight which none of us knows.

Is there any confirmation anywhere about a 200-250 pound slot machine flipping over and landing on a woman?  That sounds rather extreme even given what happened

Now that my daughter has returned and I could talk to her about her experience; she confirmed that she saw the woman sitting on the floor next to the slot machine that fell on her and her head was all bloody.  As a doctor she went to see if she could help, but the ship's medical staff was already aiding her.

My sister-in-law is on this cruise. She said it was pretty scary. She isn't the most seasoned cruiser though so the fear was probably heightened. She was going to send me some pictures later, I will post them if she does.

My daughter and her boyfriend are on that cruise too!  They were met by 8 ambulances in Port Canaveral and several crew and passengers were hurt.  A slot machine fell on a women's head.  Crew were quoted as saying they have never seen anything like that.  The captain said he thought it was 120 mile gusts.  They are pretty seasoned cruisers and they said it was terrifying.

  6. A few years ago, we were in Cabo in early June with the intentions of going snorkeling.  My husband went first and said it was absolutely freezing and told me not to bother.  Now we are going in January and think it will be even colder.  We have been told the Pacific side is really cold but if you go in the Sea of Cortez, it is not as cold or rough and better for snorkeling.

  7. zbayette...regarding the toiletries. I wont be able to tell you the specific brand (Im a guy, I dont look at that stuff)..buttttt...it smelled very nice. It was Lemongrass i believe and we used so much of it that the cabin steward had to fill us up 2/3 of the way through the cruise. We brought our own products but my wife was more than happy to use the ships.

She did run out of conditioner sooo (here is where it pays to be nice to your cabin steward) we asked our steward if she had any and she gave us a bunch of Bulgari ? products that they use in the Haven. Stuff seems to be pretty pricey on line but she kept giving it to us. We did tip her extra for some body lotion earlier in the cruise, then a few bucks on xmas day as a present so I think she was just taking care of us in her own way.

The products were all excellent though. No dry skin or flaky scalp etc.

Thanks so much! I wasn't so concerned about the brand as I was that shampoo and conditioner came in the bathroom, or did I need to bring my own? Also is there lotion or do I need to bring some from home?

  8. No. But while docked in u s ports you pay only tax. As long as drink you order less than the max package drink price

So a cruise out of Tampa, that also goes to Key West and San Juan, you will be charged the tax on drinks for those 3 days while docked? So wine at meals will be taxed?

  9. We were in a lowly oceanview cabin, all we had was wall mounted dispensers of shampoo and body wash in the shower. No bar of soap. I guess we could have asked for one but made due. Next NCL cruise, we'll take along a bar of soap. Or perhaps the cabin steward forgot to provide one, he wasn't the sharpest we've had.

There is a hair dryer at the desk area.

Thanks so much! I appreciate it. We're going on 1/17 but will be in Florida the week before.

  10. We took this cruise in 2007 and LOVED it. It was our only NCL cruise but we are doing NCL again in January. We have taken many many cruises in our lives and on multiple lines. I am always amazed of the differing reviews, but then again any product I buy, when I check reviews there are as many excellent reviews as horrible reviews; I can never understand how they can differ so much. It's the same as on trips, hotels, etc. Everyone has different past experiences, expectations and satisfaction levels. You can't beat this itinerary for Hawaii. BTW, if you haven't seen it on another thread; check out "Roberts Tours"; they are terrific and much cheaper than any ship offers and exactly the same!

  11. Thanks, that's very helpful, though I'm disappointed that I have to pack my own conditioner and lotion. :( I guess I'm not going to be able to pack everything into carry-on and avoid baggage fees. Some cruise lines give you a free canvas bag to use (and keep). Is there anything like that on NCL? I haven't traveled with them since 2007.
