We will be sailing on the Marina in October, our first time with Oceania.  We will tender into Sorrento and will be in port 7-6.  Our intent is to go to Capri in the morning, do the Blue Grotto and just stroll around the town and have lunch. Then head back to Sorrento and do some shopping, ship by and getting to the ship by 5.  Is this too ambitious as it will be on a Sunday. Do ship excursions leave from the ship or the main port? Our preference is to do it on our own, but maybe in this instance, the ship excursion may be the best route. Any advice/comments will be appreciated.

    Greetings!
i was in Sorrento last year on a land trip. I can tell you that without booking the Blue Grotto in advance you will most certainly not get in.

Our guide got us there with tickets in hand and onto the boat to go in without having to wait on line. We saw the line of people without reservations and it was ridiculous. We met a couple the following day who said they waited but never made it in.

The Blue Grotto is a once in a lifetime experience and I recommend you see it, with or without O.

  2. Does anyone know how long Oceania will allow you to remain on board once we reach the final port?

I know they’re in a hurry to turn over the cabins but I’m in no rush and would like to stay on board (perhaps at the barista bar) for as long as possible!

For those of you that have gone to Alaska, would you recommend Oceania or another line?  Which ports are a must to visit? Thanks.

We were booked on a southbound Oceania cruise last year. We chose this itinerary as we wanted to include a land package prior to sailing.

Since 0 did not offer this option in 2022 we booked Silversea instead. My friend did this same sailing and absolutely loved it.
Although it may be a little pricier it includes everything!

  4. We were first time on Oceania/Riviera May 2019 and loved it so much we booked 2 more Oceania cruises for 2020….and then COVID! Unfortunately the Alaska itinerary we wanted wasn’t available for 2022 so we are now booked on SS, also first time.

My friend highly recommended SS Shadow with land package and said it was fabulous.
As far as formal night goes, it’s my understanding that there are still other dining options to chose from if one isn’t so inclined to go formal. Otherwise, stateroom it is!

As for price, it was nice not to think about included/not included excursions or beverage package, etc.

  5. Made a $500+ payment (via TA) on booking made in June... the $150 credit posted the day after the payment posted. I’m a happy camper😄😄👏👏🎉🎉😄😄

Also learned that not all Amex customers get the same offers. Unfortunately, my sister and BIL (Platinum) weren’t extend the offer and after speaking with customer service were basically told “too bad, too sad!”  Bottle of wine on me, I guess!

  6. SPOKE WITH AMEX. I explained that I made a reservation on Oceania about two weeks ago and that final payment isn’t due for several months yet. I said that I would happily make an additional payment on that booking before 8/30 if it meant getting the $150 statement credit. The agent seemed to indicate that I WOULD BE ELIGIBLE FOR THE CREDIT. Hopefully he is correct!
