Just curious if anyone knows of anyone else downgraded from a Star Class suite to a JS?  Or am I the only one?  I've heard of several Sky Class downgraded, but not other Star.

It makes me wonder how they decided who got what- we went from SLS to OS. Originally I was a little disappointed, but now I see that I was treated much better than some! FWIW we are Diamond, although I don’t think that mattered in the decision-making. We booked in December of 2020.

I've been hot under the collar since receiving my Wonder assignment.  I needed to take some time away from the boards and talk to my husband about what will be acceptable.  We were in a Star Loft Suite for the westbound TA and were downgraded to a JS.  I understand there are less Star Class suites on Wonder, but to move a Star Class customer to a junior suite is beyond unacceptable!  I'm on hold right now and will report back to let you know if they accept what we are proposing.  We sail Star Class frequently and are still in shock that Royal thought this would be an acceptable swap!

Wow! We were in a Star Loft Suite on the Eastbound TA and were moved to an Owner’s Suite. I would be livid if I were you!

  3. UPDATE: just received this email. We get to keep all of our Star Class amenities, price is protected, and we received the $300 OBC. We are okay with this, even though we would have rather had a crown Loft Suite instead of the owner’s suite to which we were moved.

    Dear Guest,

Last week, we shared that Wonder of the Seaswill take the place of Allure of the Seas and will complete its inaugural season out of Fort Lauderdale, Florida before moving to its European season in Barcelona, Spain and Rome (Civitavecchia), Italy. As a result of this change, we also advised that your reservation would automatically be moved to Wonder of the Seas and that you'd receive a like-for-like stateroom.

Unfortunately, due to a smaller number of available suites onboard Wonder of the Seas, we were unable to accommodate you in a like-for-like suite. Instead, your reservation has been moved to a Owner's Suite - 1 Bedroom, stateroom number 1864. We're sorry for any inconvenience caused by this change. However, it's important to us that your overall experience onboard remains the same. So, the good news is that although your room has changed, we will be protecting your Royal Suite Class amenities and experience.

While we hope you're excited to sail with us in your new suite, we understand this change may not work for you. Below, please find some additional details, as well as your options.

Option 1: Remain booked on the corresponding Wonder of the Seas sailing

    • As a result of this change, we've moved your reservation to an alternate suite onboard Wonder of the Seas. Additionally, we're also providing you with a $300 USD Onboard Credit per reservation to use onboard.
    • While a stateroom in your original stateroom category is not available, all of your Royal Suite Class amenities and experience will remain the same.
      • You'll still have access to the same suite class experiences and amenities onboard Wonder of the Seas that were included with your original suite. For more information on your amenities, please click here.
    • Additionally, your original stateroom category price will either be protected at your original cruise fare rate or reduced to the current cruise fare rate (whichever is lower). This excludes taxes, fees, gratuities, and other non-cruise fare items.
      • If you were already paid in full and your cruise fare rate decreases, we'll provide you with a refund for any difference in pricing. You can expect to receive your refund to your original form of payment 30 days after we move you. Kindly note, refund times may vary depending on your financial institution.
    • An updated booking invoice reflecting your new stateroom details will be sent to you and your Travel Advisor via email.

    Option 2: Select a 100% refund

    • If you no longer wish to sail, we'll be sad to see you go. We'll process a full refund of any paid portion of your cruise fare to the original form(s) of payment, including any non-refundable deposit. As a reminder, you'll have until October 20, 2021 to request a refund. If not, you will remain booked on Wonder of the Seas.
      • You can expect to receive your refund 30 business days after you submit your refund request.
    • If you booked your airfare through Royal Caribbean International, it will be automatically refunded to you. However, if you booked on your own, please contact the service provider directly for your options with them.
    • Lastly, if you used a Future Cruise Credit on this sailing, and you request a refund instead, we'll refund any NEW funds paid above the certificate amount, and we'll reinstate your original certificate.

Please note, this email serves as confirmation that your reservation has been moved, and there's no action necessary on your part if you decide to stay on this new sailing. Please note, there are a lot of moving parts when it comes to shifting an entire season of sailings and rebooking all guests, so please bear with us as we work to make this process as easy as possible for you. While moves are underway, we're still working on repricing all impacted reservations. We'll send an updated reservation confirmation with your revised details to the email address on file as soon as your reservation has been completely updated with the pricing fully adjusted. If you have any questions, please contact your Travel Advisor immediately or contact us at:

We can't wait to welcome you onboard Wonder of the Seas!

    Sincerely,

    Royal Caribbean International

  4. Sailing Date: 4/24/2022 moved to 4/20/2022 (Transatlantic)

    Date you were moved: 9/24/21

Allure Cabin Category: Star Loft Suite #1718

Wonder Cabin Category: Owners Suite #1864

This is a huge downgrade for a 14-night cruise- from a Star Class Suite to Sky Class. They are not putting any Star Loft Suites on Wonder, so we were expecting the downgrade, but our balance due was also INCREASED by $4000. I’m hoping that this is a glitch. I am calling my royal vacation planner today to see if they will protect my price and still give me Star Class benefits. I don’t care about the genie, but losing the included gratuities, beverage package, and dining package is HUGE. They threw me $300 in OBC in the cruise planner, but that doesn’t even begin to cover it.

FWIW, I didn’t receive an email, The change just showed up in the cruise planner.

  5. Question for anyone who has sailed on Independence since she recently moved back from the UK. Does the menu in the MDR still reflect the British fare offered for UK sailings? If so, can you give a review? My husband is a fairly picky eater (he had radiation and chemo that affected his taste and ability to swallow), so we are considering the unlimited dining package for our sailing this Saturday. Thanks!

  6. Just had this happen when trying to add my sister and her 4 children to a family cruise. Earlier in the week I was able to “dummy” book a stateroom of four for her and add her other child to my room. Waited three days to actually book and the ship had hit the magic 3/4 capacity and I could only book double occupancy. The difficulty in booking was compounded by Royal’s proximity requirements for minors traveling with a parent. After over an hour and a half on the phone with a great Royal advisor, we rearranged a few rooms but ultimately had to book THREE balcony rooms instead of our originally planned/needed ONE interior. Very frustrating and much more costly than I had planned on spending.

  7. We have sailed on several cruises of varying lengths, and done B2B as well. The 2021 TP cruises were published while we were on Harmony two weeks ago, so we took the plunge and booked an OS on Serenade for April 2021. We will also be diamond at time of sailing. I have always wanted to visit Australia, New Zealand, and Bora Bora.

Having never done a TA or TP before, what should we expect? Specifically looking for who will be on the cruise (ages, interests), variety of activities for all those sea days, how varied the dining menu is, etc. Any tips we should know would be awesome as well. We are very active, I'm 38 and DH is 55, and just want to make sure we won't feel super out of place on this sailing, as we likely won't know anyone else on the ship. I know that the sailing is a long way out, but I want to make sure we know what we're in for while we're still in the 30-day no penalty window to re-book if we decide that this cruise may not be a good fit for us.

Really? didnt know they had priest on board :classic_biggrin:

They do, or at least they used to, for all Easter/Christmas sailings. There is a group called Apostleship of the Sea that places vetted priests on cruise ships. I guess there used to be a problem with "rented" priests, some of whom were actually excommunicated or no longer actually priests.

  9. Was on Harmony two weeks ago in a Sky Class Suite (Crown Loft). You only need reservations for the comedy show. All other shows, including headliner, Grease, aqua theater, and ice skating have a roped-off reserved section for D+, Suites, and Pinnacles. You just show your SeaPass to the person at the door, they direct you to the reserved area, then you show the usher "guarding" the section your SeaPass. There was only one or two shows we went to where the reserved section filled up prior to 10 minutes before show time. We usually arrived 20-30 minutes before the show and had no problems.

When Elaine or Mohamed (the Concierges on Harmony) emailed us the week before our sailing, I emailed back with all of our specialty dining reservation requests, and within 24 hours they replied that we were all set, and we were! The concierges were very busy the first two days of the sailing helping guests with reservations, so I was glad that ours were taken care of in advance. Also, ours was a full sailing, and some could not get their preferred CK dining times if they hadn't contacted the concierge in advance, as the seatings were full, especially for groups larger than 4.

I’d have also thought the bidding might have ended the upgrades for gty bookings.  Yet, here we have a recent cruise critic member who received a very nice late gty upgrade.  So, evidently there may still be some chance a late gty assignment may result in an upgrade.

Yes, and to clarify, I actually DID receive a RoyalUp offer for that cruise, and did not place a bid. I was just fortunate enough to receive a a great upgrade.

Here is RCCLs description of this room...

Ocean View Panoramic Suite (No Balcony)

Two twin beds that convert to Royal King. Curtained section with bunk beds. Living area with double sofa bed, vanity and sitting area. One and a half baths with shower. Floor to ceiling wrap around panoramic windows.
    Stateroom: 406 sq. ft.

This IS the description of the Oceanview panoramic suite (no balcony), but it is only rooms 1804 and 1854. If they gave you a different room number, I'm guessing it is actually a regular panoramic ocean view room  (1L) . I would be very wary- the descriptions and photos on RoyalUp are often misleading. For example, the picture for a spacious oceanview balcony is actually of a junior suite. Unless they can specifically state that you are bidding on stateroom 1804 or 1854, I would not place a bid hoping for the suite.

My husband was the second passenger listed and was the one that received the offer. My email has always been the primary on all of our cruises so I was surprised it went to him.

This happened to us as well- I manage all of our travel, so my husband didn't realize what the email was. We hadn't received an offer yet, so I had him look in his email, and there it was. I've always been the one to receive them...

Ah sorry, didnt know this about the "appliances" that create heat, overheating, but makes sense. Yes, I did notice the round Euro outlets as well.

I found I didnt need use the outlets much at all, remember you can also take a power strip if you need additional outlets.

Power strips are not allowed on board as they are a fire hazard, particularly if they have surge protection. They will be confiscated by security.

  14. We were booked on Oasis for Jan 17 and cancelled two days prior to sailing due to family emergency. Some lucky person got to “RoyalUp” into our Crown Loft Suite, which netted RC a nice profit, I’m sure. Much more lucrative than the former “upgrade fairy” system.

Interestingly enough, we received a statement of onboard charges for the cruise we cancelled. There were obviously no charges, but now I’m wondering if the C&A points will show up too!
