  1. Dear Phil,

Can't thank you enough for sharing your photographs of your Homelands Cruise.  We will be traveling during that same time this year.  I have only started viewing your pictures and will continue to enjoy them.  I must ask you how you took these pictures.  They are really remarkable😍

  2. We are considering using a different company to book Berlin tour.  It offers travel into Berlin by motor coach rather than train.  Would like to know opinions on those two options.  Price is similar for ship or private company and both meet up with guides in Berlin.

  3. The same thing happened to us with Vantage Paris to Normandy. The Versillies tour was canceled with no notification. I only found it by accident. When I asked why I was given same answer - poor reviews. I had booked the trip mainly for that tour. We had to cancel due to health problems, but I was not happy with this issue.

  4. RealCajunLady, my camera was only a Sony point and shoot. Cameras that involve a lot of equipment are just too heavy for me to lug around. Feel free to ask questions later. There might be others who would chime in with even more information.

Dogsarepeopletoo, the review took a lot of time, but it gave me a chance to enjoy my cruise all over again, and it also gives me a place to come back to if I want to remember it again.

We have a rather heavy camera also which does take excellent pictures but is soooo bulky. I am thinking about investing in a point and shoot (or finding the one that I probably put away several years ago :')). I really am glad that your posted all of the pictures. My husband and I are taking some time to look them over and get ready for our trip.

  5. My cousin and I booked a Viking Grand European trip on the Viking Vili August 5-August 19, 2016 with a two-day pre-cruise in Amsterdam. We booked when a special airfare was offered. I looked into booking the airfare on our own and found that going through Viking was a considerable savings. About two months before the cruise we were sent our flight schedule, and I was very pleased with it. St. Louis to Detroit to Amsterdam on the way there and Budapest-Amsterdam-Detroit-St. Louis on the return. There was enough time to make connections without spending hours sitting in an airport. And our return flight didn't leave Budapest until 11:20 am so we weren't with the group who had to leave the ship at 3:30 am.

We booked a cabin on the lowest level that has a high window. If I could do anything again, it would be to spend a little more and get a French balcony cabin on the second deck. I'm not a tall person, and if I wanted to see out the window I had to pull a stool over to stand on.

My suitcases were in the trunk of my car, I was doing last minute things around the house prior to my husband taking my cousin and me to the airport, when my cousin called. She was sick and her doctor told her not to travel. I was dumbfounded and she was, of course, upset. It's a very good thing we had insurance (through our travel agent) so she should get her money back and I went on the trip.

Mimmy52 - I am enjoying your posts about this Viking Cruise as I will be taking the Amsterdam to Basel trip with Viking in May, 2017. I think your pictures are just superb and would like to ask what kind of camera did you use during this trip. Thank you so much and I may be asking more later.

  6. I would call Vanatge again and get more specific information. You need to speak to a Concierge not just be given a link.

When we docked near Conflans (July 2014) it was quite a distance from Paris and Versailles. It was NOT where we were supposed to dock (not sure why it was changed). We enjoyed our tour very much (it was hot and crowded but to be expected in July). Booking on your own will require that you know the timing of the ship and where it is docking--- the concierge should be able to help more with these specifics. The purpose of the Vantage "concierge" is to be able to do more things on your own.

I would like to read your blog of your Paris to Normandy trip but am unable to find on the board. Would you mind sharing a link to your post?

  7. The final docking stop is my concern and I have been hearing that it is often not in Paris. Thank you for the recommendation. My next action will be to speak to a live concierge. Will post if I am successful. Would like to know your overall impression of the Paris-Normandy trip in July pbnjrockette??

  8. When we booked our special interest river cruise, Art Along the Seine, with Vantage (July 2, 2016) over a year ago, I did so for two special reasons – an after hours guided tour of the Louvre and a tour of Versailles. After paying the entire bill, a year in advance, I was checking our itinerary and could not find the Versailles tour mentioned. I had not been informed of the change and called the company to find out why and was told that it had been cancelled due to “poor reviews” from previous travelers. I was also told to contact the Concierge for assistance in booking a tour on our own. My assistance was a link to a company that does Versailles tours but no information about when we might do that. I need advice from anyone who has done the Paris to Normandy cruise with Vantage recently, about whether it would be possible to book a tour on our second to last day instead of doing whatever is on the itinerary - Conflans. We are not planning to extend our trip and as this might be our only trip to Paris, I would really like to see Versailles. I would appreciate any help or suggestions, other than extending trip, especially tour company or other individuals to contact about scheduling a visit.

I would also like to know where the Vantage ship docked pre cruise and post cruise for the Paris to Normandy excusion.
