Sorry if this is a bit off point but since Char Trav mentioned Trip Mate, does anyone know what happens if you had purchased Trip Mate insurance on the cancelled cruise?  Is the premium you paid included in the FCC,  can it be rolled over to the new sailing, can you get a cash refund, or are you out the money?

We are going through this process right now and the Viking representative we are working with has said we will get the price of the insurance back in the voucher that we can use for a future cruise.

  2. Thanks for the help.  We decided to try again today with air plus & got a different person.  When we told her that the airline said that Viking had deleted the flight, she said that Viking would never do that!  We were then put on hold for a few minutes and she came back with the details of our original itinerary!  We have another confirmation email and it's appeared again in MVJ.

We're so glad we didn't let the previous agent delete our ticket info. with the airline & start over.  He was sure that these flights were no longer available.  Very odd.  This is our 3rd Viking cruise, & we've always been pleased with their service both before & during our cruise, but this has been a little  unsettling.

Thanks for the suggestion about having the flights ticketed - I'll check on that.

  3. My husband & I are booked on a Paris to Normandy River Cruise this fall.  We paid for air plus to choose our flights and also paid the extra fee to fly out of a city that was not a gateway city.  On Jan. 2 we realized we were within the time where we could book our flights with air plus.  Prior to calling, we went on the airline websites & found a flight we liked from our city to the gateway & then a second flight arriving in Paris at 7:55 AM the following day.  That would give us an extra day in Paris.  When we called, we were thrilled the flights were available. We promptly received a confirmation email from the air plus agent & we could see our itinerary in My Viking Journey.

This past Monday, we received an email from the airlines informing us that there had been a 15 minute time change on our return flight.  No big deal.  but while looking at the itinerary email, my husband realized that the first leg of the flight (from our city to the gateway city) was missing.  When he went to MVJ our whole flight itinerary had been erased!!  When he checked our airline  account he could see the flights minus the first leg.

He emailed the air plus agent who had booked this and included the confirmation email.  We waited 2 days - no reply.  This afternoon we called air plus and were told that the airline had deleted the first flight (from our town to the gateway) and even though there were other flights he could book us on, he would have to  delete the ticket to Paris and start over.  And, unfortunately, that flight was no longer available.  We would have to take another flight arriving at 6 AM.  We asked if we could just add the flight from our town to the gateway to the original ticket & he said his computer program would not allow him to do that.  He could not explain why we can no longer see our flights on MVJ.

We told him we would think it over, because we really liked our flight to Paris arriving at 7:55 & do not want to give it up.  We asked the agent what their hours were & he said 8 to 6 , Mon. thru Fri.  When we asked what time zone he replied, "That's a good question! I think it's Central?"

Did we just get a bad agent?  Can the airline delete a leg of your flight with no warning?

I'm hoping some of you more experienced Viking travelers can give us some guidance as to our next step.

  4. We just returned from this Alaskan cruise with the Denali extension.  The tour guide & bus driver were awesome & we lucked into fantastic weather.  Everything about the excursions was as described on the website.   The one major negative about the extension was our rooms at Denali Park Village.  Our rooms looked NOTHING like the room featured on Viking's website.  I would compare it to a Motel 6.  We have stayed in National Parks before, so we knew it wouldn't be like the cruise ship, but it was worse than we'd experienced in the National Parks.  No air conditioning (which didn't surprise us too much) but a ceiling fan would have been nice.  I would expect this to be really problematic later in the summer.  The room wasn't much bigger than our Deluxe Veranda room on the Orion.     Paper thin walls - I could hear coughing in the next room.  Each room had 2 double beds, so all couples had to sleep separately to get a decent night's sleep. The people who were on the 2nd floor said the stairway was absolutely filthy.  When we arrived in Anchorage on the train (which was amazing)  we stayed at the Hilton.  The location was great and the rooms were much better, but we still had 2 double beds.  We noted all this on the survey after the extension, so maybe your experience will be better.
