Just a quick post for future cruisers. We took a cab from the ship to Marriott Waterfront yesterday. Porter insisted we use a metered cab. Cost $11.80 +tip. Marriott also has a shuttle to Pier 91 for $10.00 per person.
Was the Marriott shuttle for HAL-arranged pre-cruise hotel guests, or walk-ups? Thanks!

We are lucky to be at berth #1 which makes a lot of places reachable/within walking distance. We are scheduled for a 11:00 AM DUKW (the six-wheel-drive amphibious modification of the 2+1⁄2-ton CCKW trucks used by the U.S. military during WWII and Korea) tour and then will pick a shoreside restaurant for lunch to give a little to the local economy
I love a duck 🙂 -- back in the 60s, my dad was the CB operator on the Kentucky National Guard's ducks, used for water rescues when the Ohio flooded; once in a while we got to ride on them, too.

For Pinnacle Grill, has anyone been able to order off-menu ? I'm really bummed that the 18 oz ribeye has been removed, and wondered if it could still be available...

Why is the ship still CDC Orange?
from last week's live report : Copper10-8 said on 7/28 "A heads up - two pax were tested yesterday onboard Nieuw A because they displayed "Covid-like" symptoms (one had developed a cough and the other had "Montezuma's Alaskan cousin's revenge" is prob the best way to put it).
Both were Covid-19 tested onboard by Nieuw A's dedicated medical staff with negative results for the disease.
As a result. there are, as of today, zero confirmed Covid cases onboard Nieuw A and let's keep it that way!"
-- I don't know why it's still orange, but data for that was from 7/29, so maybe just not updated yet.

Good Evening from the Beautiful MS Nieuw Amsterdam.
yes tonight was second Gala Night , they call it Gold Gala Night, the first was silver. So my question is if we are on a longer cruise is the third Platinum Gala night or does the first one become Bronze😂
yes I agree the menu items have not been exciting although tonight I did get the Club Orange item and it was actually quite good. I cannot remember what they called it but it was Scallops with a hint of lemon, over what I believe was polenta. It was actually good. My previous CO item was equally as good.
Tonight we decided to not be party poopers and go out and about to check out the entertainment on the Music Walk. But after dinner we did go back to our cabin. Guest Relations on board sent us a floral arrangement which was nice. I am still a bit disappointed but life goes on. We also did get out additional 5% discount in the shops and they were sincerely apologetic.. Now just need to get the charges off that would have been covered under the Signature Beverage Package.
In the Billboard there were a female and male pianist/singers that were both quite good performing “The Classics”. We sat there till their set ended then wanted to see the comedian in the BB King Lounge, since that was packed we act sat out on the walk area where there are chairs. Actually that was quite entertaining just watching the passengers. But the comedian was pretty funny as well. Then we listened to the BB King band for a while.
Sadly tomorrow is our last day, but we actually don’t feel as bad about leaving knowing that 5 weeks from tomorrow we fly back to Seattle to do it all over again 😉😃
Tomorrow night we dine in the Pinnacle, we like to save the Best for last.
Wifi has been down most of the night again so hopefully this does upload. I will attempt a few pictures as well.
Note our towel animal was a whale.
Hate to say it, but I'd still be hungry after that meal :(, or were the plates just ginormous ?

Icy Strait Point/Hoonah isn't a large area and you can find plenty to do. It's a nice walk from the dock into the Cannery area where the shops are (not too many but some nice ones). There is the world's longest zipline if you like that. There was a booth selling fresh mini-doughnuts. It's about a mile walk to Hoonah and there's a wide paved walkway. Not a lot in Hoonah but the walk is worth it. This is also a good port for whale watching and animal looking.
KarenGuess I'll watch the earlier sailings to see if things will be open/offered that late in the nite, since it'll be totally dark by 7:30pm

I've just noticed that the Nieuw Amsterdam will be at Icy Strait Point from 6-10 *PM* this year -- so what is there to do there so late, besides eat or shop ?

We've got this cabin for the Sep 25 Alaska cruise, but in our several HAL cruises we've never had a cabin so far forward.
So anyone have complaints/comments for cabins in forward ? And is the portside best for the Inside Passage ? -
