  1. Just to let you all know

I AM currently onboard Meraviglia and when we got on yesterday, Eataly was still here, but today it is closed.

As I had prebooked the tryptic I AM being offered some options but none of them satisfy us .

The manager told me Ocean Cay and Tapas Will be ready for next cruise sailing from next saturday May the 4th (be with you)

That would be very nice if it did happen but I doubt it, somehow! If it doesn't happen though, I'll quote you and start making demands at reception. 😉

Not a black card member here, sadly.

But (booked interior bella) if you read between lines (upgarded to fantástica balcony), I am very Happy Classic Member.

Let's see if it still is when I check in a couple of weeks, lol, not taking it as a done deal, but fingers crossed.

On that very subject - I may be about to commit a completely unheard of, impulsive act - booking a bare bones, Bella Inside - no packages, perks or anything.

I'm going to research the drinks menus again to see if I could manage 'pay as you go' on that front - it's been so long since I've been without a package I just can't remember what the regular prices are - and no doubt the menus and prices have changed significantly. It'll be fixed time dining too, and no table for 2 - so if I pull the trigger, we'll probably eat at the buffet every night (again unheard of), except for the Black card meal. So I need to work out what I would like in terms of extra and see if packages or pay as you go will be more worthwhile.

Hand luggage only on the flights, for a week's cruise, to keep to the budget theme. However - the total price -including flights - is not that far off what I was quoted for my car's service recently. So in that context I don't think any of the above will be a hardship at all. 😄 I think the challenge of spending as little as possible (save for the necessaries: transfers, DSC, and wine!) will make it the most interesting holiday I've had in a while............

While Interior cabins are comfortable enough, I would bet being black card Will get you a cabin upgrade. Sorry for you not getting the full downgrade experience you wanted 😆😆😆😆

Hi, I read up the wonderful info in the forum, and looked up the City Pass website, and would like to confirm with the local experts here: City Pass Small is good enough for trips between CPH airport (or downtown Indre By) and OceanKaj cruise port, but I should get the City Pass Large if I plan to go to Frederiksborg Castle.

I plan to buy the City Pass on arrival at CPH airport (I read that you can buy online and they send you SMS to your cellphone, but I am not sure if I'll have data reception in Copenhagen, also not sure if I could stack 4 passes in one cell phone for the family).

    Thanks in advance!

    Michael

Hi, I just bought 2 "small" day passes for DW & I.

They sent the receipt to the phone by SMS and Will send the ticket the day before of first usage (be ready to give them precise day and time of start).

I won't be having data from home's current sim but I can use the receipt and show the phone as a ticket. (at least is what they state).

I believe it is a maximum of 2 tickets per phone, but, 2  children under 12 are allowed to travel with their parents for free.

In Oslo, the easiest option is to buy tickets in advance. Single tickets are good for an hour from when you activate them (by swiping on a machine onboard a buS, tram, or ferry or before boarding at a train or metro station). 24-hour passes are roughly the same price as three single tickets.

I believe ticket machines (at stations and some tram stops) require chip and pin cards, but you can buy tickets and passes from any kiosk/convenience store (7-11, Narvesen, Deli de Luca, Mix, etc) which will typically be able to process a magnetic-strip or chip-and-sign card. If you dock at the main cruise pier alongside Akershus Fortress, there is a 7-11 right behind the city hall (two-towered brick building on the harbor front facing the ship).

Tickets can be purchased from the driver on buses, but it carries a hefty surcharge and requires cash, so it is not recommended.

(FYI - Last time I was in Stockholm, we just bought tickets from the closest convenience store.)

Thanks, so I guess it is all very similar to Copenhagen

    A) I am not sure how these busses runs, but yes 11 seems very late, have you visited their websites?

As I understand they run a shuttle between Oceankaj and The Little Mermaid and the you change to the regular lines from there.

It might have changed but this is what other member has reported.

    B) I'm not from Copenhagen and when I visit the town all the bikers scares me 🙂

Not really but there are many unwriten laws when biking in Copenhagen and they are not afraid to tell you if you do something wrong.

Also they drive very fast, remember they are commuters.

So if you are an unexperienced biker it won't probably be a solution and its also a long trip from Oceankaj and the first part is in a industrial area with many trucks etc.

But if I haven't scared you of trying it then its possible to rent these city bikes at Oceankaj.

    C) nothing to worry about here except for the price 🙂

    D) that is very easy to do, go to my Wonderful Copenhagen thread for information.

    Many many Thanks,

I will go to that thread right away!!

I filled out my post-cruise survey yesterday.  I mentioned the missing take away ice cream, though I doubt it will do any good.

    Thanks!

If everybody mentions what to improve it MIGHT help for everyone's future experiences.

In Copenhagen you need cash in the bus, but not more than a 100 or 200 note.

At Oceankaj its possible to buy tickets at the information booth between terminal 1 and 2.

    Hello DV!

We will be docking at Oceankaj April at around 8, so in your experience, which of these options would be the smartest about transport? We have booked a walking tour from downtown at 11am.

A)HoHo Bus, easy, but not well organised as I read.....In my research HoHo buses state that their service from Oceankaj start at 11, a bit late don´t you think?

B)Hire a couple of bikes (DW and I), must be fun! Is that easy??? Maybe going to the Little Mermaid spot and keep going downtown to drop´em, go to the walking tour, have lunch and figure out how to go back.

C)Share a Cab walk downtown and do the same back.

D)Transport day pass, around 12 Euro, BUT start figuring out how to travel the city.

    Any other???

    TIA!!!!

We will be on MSC Meraviglia, departing Kiel on April 27th.  We have never been to Copenhagen.  I did some preliminary research a while back and I think I recall a canal tour of some sort that I want to look into. Anything where you are on the water is right up our alley.

    Have a great trip.

Hi, I remember well you are doing B2B cruise and I start with you in Kiel but dismbk in Kiel while you keep going.

In my research HoHo buses state that their service from Oceankaj start at 11, a bit late don´t you think?

So for everybody wondering I thought of a couple of other options when arriving and getting off (at around 8:45 maybe?😞

1)Hire a couple of bikes (DW and I), must be fun!

    2)Share a Cab

3)Transport day pass, around 12 Euro, BUT start figuring out how to travel the city.

    Any other sugestions?

I have never been to Copenhagen, Denmark before.

I was wondering for these who have been there, What did you do there??

We are only there for the day 😞

Also do we docked a long way from the city??

Hi, in the same boat (maybe literaly?)

We (DW and I)will be docking in Oceankaj (the further one) on April 28th at around 8, so maybe off the ship at about 8:45 and the only booked item is a walking tour from downtown, so our options are (hope some of you ho have been there elaborate):

1)Hire a couple of bikes at port and take a ride to the Little Mermaid spot and keep going to the city and drop em to catch the tour, take lunch and keep walking for a while and then decide which way back we should take.

2)Wait for the HoHo Bus (it states service from Oceankaj starts at 11am, half morning and booked walking tour lost) and tour as much just to get back on the bus as well.

3)Buy a transport day pass and try to figure out how to travel the city -kind of complicated for one day-

    4)Share a cab to downtown

    Any sugestions???

    TIA

Can anyone recommend good lunch spots in Arminia’s POCs? We are looking for an authentic experience that isn’t touristy. Thanks!!  ( Roatan, Cozumel, Havana, etc) Sailing April 22.

Havana: "Iván Justo" is an Excelent "paladar" (fine local cousine venue)

So, to make this less confusing...gelato is free on Seaside if staying in the YC and booked before the November 2018 cutoff date...but not free on Meraviglia as she has a chocolate shop private franchise operated gelato place.  Have I got that right?

But Meraviglia has another Ice Cream Bar in Deck 19 as hamrag posted before you did.

So... I believe that ice cream is free to YC and Non-Alc drinks package holders I believe.

    Hopefully...

This has been an ongoing issue with their website. Same thing happened when we booked the trio package for our sailing this past November and our upcoming March 16th cruise. It was super easy changing the time with the YC concierge. My family didn’t want to eat at the Pan Asian so they let us eat at the Butcher’s Cut twice. And I don’t like seafood so when my family ate at Ocean Cay they allowed me to order a steak from BC! They were very accommodating! On a side note Teppanyaki was worth the extra $$. We paid $30 for filet and chicken combo and it was mouth watering!!

    Hi

I believe you might be on or just off the ship (sailing march 16th you said)

How did the trio worked out this time? Were you able to switch/repeat restaurants? Is this exclusive to YC?

    TIA

Found this. It says “soft icecream” for the new ones and “take away icecream” for the old ones. That’s kinda sneaky.

    As of this,

I will be sailing on the Meraviglia, and in my MSC for Me App the description of the Atmosphere Ice Cream Bar reads:

"This pool-side gourmet ice cream bar offers...

...six flavours of delicious soft ice-cream and

fresh fruit treats, as well as tropical and frozen

    drinks and coladas."

So both descriptions (N-A package and Atmosphere IC Bar) call the product "soft ice cream" (not soft serve ice cream or gelato). Therefore, any ice cream in this bar is included in that package.

    Cheers!

The non-alcoholic package. I've asked multiple people.

They say machine is out of order. They should say "machine is out of order, but we are substituting gelato" but they don't do that.

    Right!

Soft serve Ice cream or subted for gelato, ICE CREAM is one of the perks Of the Non-Alc Package, and one of the reasons many people buy it.

Unfortunately, there are few fellow poster who actually buy this package, to give different experiences in different ships.

Anyone who has recently sailed on The Meraviglia and was able to get ICE CREAM? what kind of?

I am, but it is typically MSC confusing since various parts of the cruise are bookable as, various cruises.  We are on the 14 day version, starting and ending in Kiel, with a port stop in Kiel mid cruise (where you will disembark).  Plus we have 2 separate port stops in Copenhagen.

    Awesome!

    Did you get the tryptic?

Wondering if I Will get Eataly or Tapas.. I assume Eataly Will be.

I agree not many participating in the Roll Call group (some embarking in Kiel some in Copenhagen some 7 some 14 days), and, without M&M parties un Europe, well...
