  1. Thank you for the review! I am sailing on the Miracle for my first cruise, solo, as a birthday present to myself, on July 7th. I don't have a cabin as fancy as yours, but I did get a balcony with an unobstructed view and I am so excited about it.  Your review has added to the excitement, so again, thank you!!

So you really think a waiter is going to jeopardize his job by intentionally using someone’s folio card?  I am not saying it’s impossible, but I find that very hard to believe.  I have literally talked to hundreds of crew members  (specifically bartenders, waiters, and cabin stewards) during my 26 cruises on Carnival. With very few exceptions, these people work on ships because they make significantly more money than they can in their home countries. They are not going to jeopardize  their livelihood over a few coffees and sodas.  I think it is far more likely a mistake was made on the first night with folio numbers, and the waiter used the same folio numbers the rest of the cruise. If you cruise on Carnival frequently, you know they never ask to see your S&S card in the MDR after the first time you use it to order a drink (alcohol or non-alcoholic) in the MDR. You also know they rarely have you sign receipts for non-alcoholic drinks in the MDR if you have Cheers. So if a mistake was made the first night, it is no surprise that the same mistake was repeated multiple times during the rest of the cruise.

Even if I agree with your view that it was a rogue waiter (I don’t), Guest Services made it pretty clear to the OP that it wasn’t a big deal. The OP made that point very clear, and despite not agreeing with the OP’s view on this situation, I have never doubted the OP’s story. So even if what you believed really happened, Guest Services didn’t care about it.  So if I am in your shoes, or more accurately the OP’s shoes, I have to make a decision if I want to continue to cruise on a cruise line that allows that kind of behavior.

And if you re-read the entire thread, you will see that the OP was not looking for opinions.  They were looking for people who agreed with their view on the situation. They have not once agreed with the several comments by me and others who have said this is nothing to worry about.

I think YOU need to re-read the original post. She was bringing up an issue and was wanting opinions. You have been nothing but rude and disrespectful to numerous people.  She brought it to the cruise line's attention. I agree with the others, NOT YOU, that this should not be ignored. Someone was making a mistake and her complaint was the response she received when she brought it to their attention. it was careless and showed a lack of respect.  21 drinks. That's not minor. Re-read the posts and stop being rude to people offering their opinions. You are no better than anyone else and neither are your opinions. They're in fact, worth just as much as mine!

This upsets me greatly.  Our poor planet.  I have a cruise scheduled for this June and even though I have had it planned for over a year, and was really looking forward to going, I still hope they throw the book at Carnival and they are not allowed to dock or even worse.  I really feel like the beards should be held accountable along with the workers who actually did the illegal dumping.  Perhaps if more corporate beards were held accountable with jail time, or some other form of actual punishment that would PERSONALLY punish them, there would be more compliance.

All these posts from people upset about missing their cruise....look at the bigger picture of what is at stake here.   The very planet we live on is getting ruined.    I for one will be thrilled if Carnival is made to pay.  Even if I lose my cruise.

While I disagree with what Carnival and others have been doing, please don't dismiss someone else's disappointment at losing their cruise. My very first cruise is scheduled for July 7th this year on Carnival. I'm going on a solo cruise for my 50th birthday.  I've already had 2 other trips for this birthday cancelled and I had no control over it. So I am really looking forward to this cruise.  So please don't judge others for their feelings. We are entitled to feeling angry and disappointed and shouldn't have to hear anyone telling us to get over it. (No that's not what you said, it was implied.) Not all of us can just go grab another cruise or vacation.

Great question! I have travel insurance for our June cruise, but this is a good point... why wouldn't Carnival need to refund?

I haven't read all the way through the thread yet but I'm guessing Carnival would only be responsible for the cruise itself and anything booked through them. Airfare, accommodations, etc. booked outside would not fall under their responsibility.

Yup - the very essence of the word SOLO is the word YOU !! 😄

38 days will be divine - my longest is 33 night expedition in Antarctica (and a couple of 30 night ones down there as well) but I am aiming for the "someday" when I reach retirement - of the half year round the world joining multiple long trips together - cruise ! And yep all 100% selfishly solo

I know this post is a year old but I still had to reply. I've loved your  comments and am SOOOO jealous!  i hope you are having a wonderful time being 100% selfish!!! (I'm preparing for my first cruise ever for my 50th birthday and I'm going solo.  I've learned over the past 50 years that no matter how much they may try, leaving your happiness in someone else's hands is asking for disappointment.  I'm doing this for me and I don't care what anyone else thinks! 🙂

  6. I'm going on my first cruise ever on July 7th (for my 50th birthday) and I'm excited about going solo!  I've tried making birthday plans with friends and others and to be honest, they always let me down so this year I took it into my own hands and decided on a 7 day cruise. I'm beyond excited.  I've traveled (non-cruises) to Mexico and the UK and have friends I met there that I still keep in contact with so I'm not worried about being "lonely."  I can't wait to do whatever I want whenever I want and not worry about pleasing someone else.

  7. I'm preparing to go on my first cruise in July. From what I"m seeing some cruise lines allow extension cords and some don't. I have a CPAP machine but since I'll be solo not sure I'm going to take it but I want to make sure I have enough outlets for blow dryer, curling iron, phone charger, etc. I have a PowerJC converter purchased for my trip to the UK last year and it works as a power strip here at home when needed.  Is this allowed? I'm going on Carnival. Some of the ideas are great and I appreciate them. I've started my "to be packed" list. Not sure what I'd need gaffer's tape for but great idea for someone needing it
    !!
