  1. You said American courts are irrelevant. You were wrong. If the person on the ground wants to take action against the security guards, they need to file suit against Carnival in Miami. That's how it works. Don't believe me? Read Carnival's cruise contract.

I believe Carnival Australia is a separate entity. Contract may be different. Not sure.

  2. It also days the 2 families are the Nanfaro family and the Zakhour family and that George Barkho was just a friend of the family. It also say that George Barkho was the only member of the Barkho family on board

David Barkho says family MEMBERS meaning his family. Why does he use the plural? Just because their last name isn’t Barkho doesn’t mean they aren’t members of that family. For that matter the whole group could be cousins or in-laws and only one named Barkho. I don’t know. But nothing in the article says for certain either way.

  3. The " Captains" reaction at the start of the video tells you much of why and how this terror cruise grew into this... He is supposed to be in charge of the ship ... He couldn't have ran away any faster .. He looked petrified ... What a spineless slob he is... He should have took control of this situation on day 1 ... Responsibility of what goes on in his ship is his ... He should wear much of the blame in this incident

Maybe just maybe he was going to call for more security.

  4. Acknowledged - we live in Central FL, so we are very aware of hurricane season. An ideal time of year might be June or early July - beach waters starting to warm up, good sunshine for around the pools, but the Gulf and Western Atlantic aren't warm enough to form/sustain storms, usually.

Off topic. But have you ever done a “cruise to the edge” Yes prog rock cruise?

  5. Another nickel and diming ploy by Royal and yet one more thing you have to plan for precuise without paying a premium

Sent from my iPad using Forums

Wrong. I was on 2 Royal ships and 1 Celebrity ship in the last 18 months. Purchased dining package on board and scheduled meals as I wanted them.

  6. Shareholder benefits are at the corporate level and apply to all Carnival brands. Carnival Cruise Line doesn't have a say.

Wow, it's worse than I thought. Carnival Corp. apparently has to bribe people to cruise any of their brands. Not true but just look at how statements can be twisted. Next you'll be telling us how Royal has to bribe shipyards to build their ships.

So, you know somehow that Carnival's board of directors couldn't make a change and not allow the shareholder benefits.

  7. How does anyone figure that they are specifically using "shareholder benefits?" EVERY expense is a potential loss to shareholders. By your logic, the ship's should sit at the dock and not go anywhere. Fuel costs money, so that is using a shareholder benefit. Sorry, but this logic of shareholder benefit is BS. Besides, the ones getting very wealthy off of "shareholder" benefits are pissing away a lot more money than you'd probably care to think about. Is a CEO salary really worth millions per year? That money is also potential shareholder benefits. If spending money to retain past guests is keeping the ships sailing full and keeping those passengers spending money, then there must be some kind of ROI.

You missed my point. If ,as Mr. MileStoner points out, the fact that Royal has a better loyalty program means that Royal is bribing people to cruise with them. Then it should also be true that Carnival having a better shareholder program also means that they are bribing people to cruise with them.

Personally, I don't feel either of these programs are bribes. I also don't think one is better than the other. Each has its own pluses and minuses.

  8. 284 out of 499 people do not believe others should be allowed to have, or can be trusted with choice. Of those 284, 143 of them are not affected at all as they have the option every night to wear a dress or skirt that provides as much comfort as shorts would for a man.

So, effectively, 141 out of 499 votes do not want to allow others to enjoy their vacations, yet they think they are the majority.

I've yet to read any reason at all why shorts should not be allowed. When asked for a reason it is dismissed with "Go to the windjammer you white trash slob!" Hardly a convincing argument at all. Then we are told we need to respect the grandeur of the room; the same room that 66% of the time shorts are allowed in. The room with the singing waiters and twirling napkins. Compromise has even been floated, to allow shorts on casual nights, but still hold a higher standard on formal evenings. NEIN! VERBOTEN! Then we are told that if shorts are allowed we are going to show up with gym shorts around our ankles and dirty wife beaters. Sorry, I don't turn into Honey Boo Boo when I change my clothing.

Cruising used to be a great way to meet new people at meal time. Now everyone wants to sit alone so they can judge and make comments about others. That is what is truly sad and pathetic.

I don't care if shorts are allowed in the main dining room or not, but would like to point out a couple of things I find wrong with your post.

If you're going to discount the no votes by women then you should also be discounting the yes votes. Turning your numbers to 142 out of 261 voting no to shorts. I think that is a majority.

You state that "cruising use to be a great way to meet new people at meal time". Since nothing has changed, it should still be a great way to meet new people at meal time.

You can beat the system just like the ladies if you like. Wear a kilt. There are no restrictions on them that I know about.

And once again I would like to point out that in a previous post the stated to vote and leave the debate to another thread. Did you state this just for people that don't agree with you or will you finally stop debating on this thread and let everyone have thier opinion be heard without further comment from you trying to sway the vote.

  9. So you are not in favor of people choosing for themselves and being comfortable on casual night. Please vote and save the debate for another thread.

Why did you start a poll? Are you just looking for people that don't agree with you,so that you can come back and badger them? Because that's what it looks like. You didn't make a statement and come back to defend it. You asked a question, so sit back and see what other people think. I think everybody knows that you think shorts should be acceptable the the MDR on casual nights, now how about respecting other people's opinions instead of trying to make them change thier minds.

  10. Several posted about the reservations on Oasis & Allure. Yes, RC sends multiple emails to remind you to make reservations. We did not do this on our Oasis cruise & consequently saw no ice shows or production shows. In fact, never even got to ice skate as every time we went down there it was closed for rehearsal. Managed to get into 1 comedy show by waiting to see if people didn't show for their reservations. We were able to see the diving show - it's outside, so I guess you could always find a place to watch it.

As far as our reasons for not making reservations in advance - we were traveling with another couple from a different state & time zone. So we would have had to both get on the phone & computer together to choose date/time. For us, that wasn't the main issue, though. The main issue was that we didn't know what we would be doing on the ship, etc., so we didn't want to be tied down to doing a certain thing at a certain time. So we were disappointed that we didn't get to enjoy the shows that we were paying for, but you live & learn.

I will say that I loved the Central Park area in the evenings - very beautiful and relaxing. Pool areas were very nice. Beautiful ship.

You could've made your best guess for reservations and if it worked out that you weren't doing anything else you would be able to see what ever you reserved. It wouldn't tie you down any because you're not obligated you show up, but might have worked out in your favor.

  11. Agreed. I also wonder how many not knowing you need to book in advance, prior to sailing at that, have felt burned after learning this information once the ship has already set sail.

It wouldn't happen to a large population on these boards just because we all very invested prior to the cruise. I know I would be upset if the shows being advertised to sell the ship were all sold out prior to sailing and I didn't know to book in advance.

Unless you don't give RCL you email address, there is no way not to know about making reservations for entertainment. They send out emails reminding you about it constantly, or so it seems.

  12. Simple economics. I'm Carnival (or any business for that matter) and I say "look, you were paying X amount of money for a cruise when oil prices were high, right? Why should I lower my prices and loose out on that extra profit? You were willing to pay up for your vacation and now you got more loose change due to lower fuel expense so it shouldn't be too much trouble for you to pay the same price while I make more money.

That's a great theory, if they were the only cruise line. But, all it takes is 1 cruise line to realize that by lowering their prices they can entice people to fill more cabins on their ships. And make more profit due to on board spending even with lower initial cabin prices.

  13. As with most things in commerce, that is exactly what happens. Galveston has been an excellent producing port for Carnival. There are about 7 million plus within a 3 hour drive. Numbers don't lie. To be totally truthful, there are port limitations and weather issue to counter act that, but they are small in comparison. We will see.

The greater Los Angeles Metropolitan Area has 12 million inhabitants, yet most cruise lines have pulled out of the area.

Maybe it just means people want to get away from Texas and are happy to stay in California.

  14. Ok, we are aboard the Island Princess now. Very easy embarkation at 11:45 AM. Lunch was being served drinks were being poured lots of staff on hand to help you if needed. Never saw so many in the Windjammer type atmosphere on RCCL. We were able to get into our state room deluxe balcony as soon as we boarded the ship. Did not have to wait to 1 PM or 1:30 PM. Had a quick bite to eat and when we went back to the room I'll luggage was there. This was 12:30(ish). We have not noticed any major worn out areas as others had previously posted. Our deluxe balcony (upgrade) is just fine. Lots of fellow passengers and seems almost full to capacity. Let's hope the entertainment is good, this is where I feel princess lacks. Staff is very friendly and outgoing. Bon Voyage 🚢🚢

Have fun and good luck with the shower stall.

  15. I am a Diamond Plus member with RCCL so it's obvious that I have been loyal to Royal. We wanted to do a quick get-a-way cruise and was looking at the Enchantment. At one time the price was $179/inside for 3 nights. Not bad but was waiting to see if it would drop a bit more. Unfortunately it did not and as a matter of fact it went up. Well I wasn't willing to pay more for what I saw so I decided to look at other lines. I found a fantastic deal with Princess for the same weekend but with an additional night :) The price was $159/inside for 4 nights. With all taxes and fees it came out to $457 for two along with $100 OBC. What a deal... How could one not take the offer? Yes, I've sailed with Princess many times but not at the loyal level that I have with RCCL. I personally find the food better on Princess but the shows and activities better on RCCL.

Long story short, we took the deal a few weeks ago. Last week they upgraded us to an OV room. Yahoo!!! For the price wow! Well it gets better. On Friday, I received an email stating an upgrade. I thought, "I know, we were already informed." However, this was another UPGRADE to a (deluxe) balcony in the best location. UNBELIEVABLE..... We have sailed over 225(+) nights on RCCL and was upgraded once from an inside to an outside about a decade ago. We sailed about 10 cruises on Princess and we get this? YAHOO and lucky me/us......

Makes me think as I am getting older, do I need all the hoopla now that our boys are older and no longer need the Yippie Yippie stuff? Slowing down and being catered to is now on my agenda...

    THANK YOU PRINCESS ;););)

If you think this through, you will realize that the lower prices and free upgrades on Princess are a result of low cabin sales. RCCL can't give you an upgrade if there are no better cabins available. And if the ships are selling out at higher prices, there is no incentive for RCCL to lower them.

I know somebody is now going to check their sailing and say there are cabins still available to be upgraded to. But, report back after your cruise and tell us if there were any upgrades available at the pier. You can't give away what isn't there.

This is not a knock on Princess. But cruise lines don't lower prices just because they can, they lower prices because they need to sail at a certain percentage full to make money.

  16. There are no facts yet except the dimensions and capacity. Right now it's all speculation good or bad, and this rendering is all we have to go by. Based on the rendering I made some observations, and from what I can see (at least on the exterior) it appears to be another tweaked Destiny/Conquest/Splendor/Dream Class. That is my opinion and I'm entitled to it. Simple as that. Be prepared for lots more speculation as this is just the beginning. That is how it works when there is a new ship with very few details. In fact this entire "Everything Vista" section of CC is filled with pretty much nothing but speculation at this point. Sorry if I'm not gushing over how fantastic it looks. This isn't a Carnival cheerleading site and if you can't tolerate a variety of opinions without going off the deep end perhaps Cruise Critic isn't for you.

You're correct about Pinnacle. I meant to say Mille. Mistake on my part but sounds like you understood what I was implying perfectly well.
