  1. Hi, we are looking into a cruise to Norway for next August.  We found two cruises with similar ports except for Flaam  or Olgen.  Which one these ports would you suggest and why ?

thank you for all replies !

Yes just 1 formal night, it was Tuesday so the day at sea.

Did men wear a suit ? It takes a lot of space in the suitcase just for one night !

Thank you for your report.  We are going on the same cruise next Saturday !

  3. Good morning,  Does anybody know if Royal Caribbean has a document or page with the Covid protocols in place for each port of call for every cruises.

I saw a document like this from Celebrity and was wondering if Royal did the same.

    Thank you in advance.

  4. We left the ship about 7:15 am, soon after it was cleared. Taxi to Livorno Centrale was 25 euros. Train to Lucca, changing at Pisa Centrale was about 10 euros return, less for children. We returned to Livorno Centrale about 3:30. Bought bus ticket from news stand, 1.20 euros. Bus 1 is just outside the train station. Get off the bus at Piazza Grande. Walk a block or 2 to Piazza Municipale. There were 2 shuttle buses back to the port, and also taxis.

Do you have to buy the bus ticket from the news stand or if it can be bought on the bus ?

  5. cruiserke;47205323']A few years ago when we arrived back in Civitavecchia after our NCL cruise' date=' we planned to take the train to the airport but were pleasantly surprised to find a shuttle service ran by an independent company, located just outside the port where the port shuttle dropped off passengers. They ran a direct service to the airport and you could just get on the bus without having prebooked.

Is this aa still existing, regular shuttle service which will most likely run anytime ships arrive? Or did we luck out that time and should try to arrange our transport independentlyindependently for our upcoming cruise ending in Civitavecchia?[/quote']

We found this transfer at a very good price :

  6. We need "Euro-Cruiser" to jump in here since his train info is often more up to date and we have heard a few different rules regarding the train ticket. I have heard the ticket is valid for 4 hours and I have heard 6 hours (this is from the time you stamp it in the validation machine). But either way that should be enough time for a quick visit to the Field of Miracles. Personally, if we are going to Florence that is where we go...without spending time anywhere else. The first time we visited Florence (from a ship) we felt somewhat overwhelmed and not overly impressed. Then we started to stop in Florence during on lengthy driving trips (we stay at the Hotel David) and soon fell in love with this fantastic city. When it comes to Pisa, DW likes to say that there are a lot of leaning towers in Italy but only one Florence.

Thank you for your answer. This time, we are not going to Florence. We plan on going to Lucca, and since the train stops in Pisa, we will get off there and see the tower.

If the ticket is good for 4 hours, I think we will be Ok.

  7. I did a lot of that, it could hardly be easier. Buy your return ticket for the hydrofoil when you get the outward ticket if you know you want to come home at a specific time. You will have a great day. All the best, Tony

    Nice video Tony :)

  8.

You can also use the train and make a short stop at Pisa. A train ticket to (or from Florence) does allow enough time for a stop in Pisa (without an additional train ticket) but you would still need to get from the station to the Field of Miracles.

    Hank

Hank, how much time can we stay in Pisa if we use the same ticket ? We are planning to stop in Pisa on our way back from Lucca.

    Thank you.

  9. I too have witnessed long lines at Livorno, so much that most people missed the first train.

It's a good idea to purchase the ticket at another train station if you have a prior stop in Italy, they can be purchased from any Trenitalia machine.

We will be in Rome for 4 days prior to our cruise. If I understand well, we can buy our tickets (Livorno to Lucca) while in Rome ? We arrive in Livorno at 8:00 and the train for Lucca is at 8:52 ... we don't want to miss this train, because the next one (9:30) is double the price...

We are also planning on stopping in Pisa on the way back. I know we have to change train in Pisa, and we can go out and take a train later. Is there a time limit for the ticket to be valid ?

    Thank you.

  10. Hank, thank you for your answer.

We are 4 people. Since we have already been to Florence, we were thinking of doing the combination Lucca/Pisa on our own.

This is our plan (I have been through a lot of posts about this) :

    Taxi to the train station

    Train to Lucca

Visit for a few hours, have some lunch

    Train back to Livorno

Stop in Pisa, then continue to Livorno

    Taxi back to the ship.

I understand that the train to and from Lucca has a stop in Pisa and that

our ticket will be good for a few hours.

We will be in port until 20H00, so we will have enough time for this visit.

    Thank you for your input.

  11. I would like to know if HAL offers a shuttle at the Livorno port or if we have to use the shuttle provided by the port.

I would also like to know if the shuttle takes you downtown Livorno, or to the train station.

    Thank you in advance.

  12. We have found that the buses don't run as often as you may like, if you time it wrong, you could be waiting for 30-45 minutes in a hot bus depot that smells like fumes. I'd advise the cab. They are set fares. Then you have to account for the stops along the way. The taxi will be about $21 each way and get you there much quicker.

Don't get me wrong, I like the bus, and use it for land based trips to PR, but I think the cost savings isn't worth the time savings here.

Here's more about San Juan Bus Routes There is a link to a bus map. If you click on the map- Isla Verde is out by the airport (you'll see the big plane on the map), and the port is in Viejo San Juan (Old San Juan), and you can see sort of where the piers are and the bus station to the right of that, with the list of the bus routes that you find there.

In the bus station, you just look for the space marked with that route number and wait. It is under cover, so shaded, but not a lot of seating.

Note that it looks like 5 or 53 are the bus routes you should be looking for.

If you take a bus back to OSJ, they sort of let you out across the street from this bus garage from what I recall. Just ask the driver.

On your return trip, if taking a taxi, be sure to specify that you want to go to the cruise ship docks, because if you just specify 'Old San Juan', you will typically get dropped off at Plaza Colon, which IS in easy walking distance to the ship, but just not at the port area. Just walk downhill towards the ships, you will be able to see them.

I hope this makes sense! I think the most confusing part is finding the bus station, and figuring out when the buses are coming.

Thank you for your reply. I will keep all these info in mind, and bookmark the link. :)
