My recent cruise caused me to wonder about the direction Celebrity is headed. The Summit is a well maintained vessel with staff that is very friendly. The quality of the food was good.

There were, however, several areas of major concern. One, the dress code has become a total joke. Celebrity promotes itself as a "luxury" line but allows its passengers to dress inappropriately in various dining venues. Shorts, which are banned at dinner, were often noticed in the main dining room. Although tank tops and baseball caps are prohibited in the speciality dining rooms, patrons were wearing both when I ate in the Sushi on Five dining venue. Why have codes if they are never enforced? Two,they continue to downgrade the benefits offered to the Captain's Club higher tier members. They have a limited drink menu from 5 - 7 PM at the bars. This means you have about a 30 minute window to enjoy your benefit if you have the 5:30 PM seating. Wow, you spend tens of thousands of dollars for cruises and are given a 30 minute window! Three, they are beginning to recycle headliner entertainment. Three of the acts were the exact same ones we saw on the Constellation in February. Can't Celebrity offer a more diverse selection? Four, the entree selection number has been reduced as well as the serving sizes. Several nights saw only four selections for entrees when there used to be six or seven.

I am an Elite Plus CC member and this was my twentieth Celebrity cruise. I wonder if it is time to switch to Princess or other similar lines?

I agree, the 2 hour cocktail window is pretty bad, I prefer the way royal does it, 4 drinks on your card per day, doesn’t matter when or what. I think that as most people get the drink package, it makes less of a difference. As for the dining attire, I don’t let what people are wearing bother me.

i guess that’s their way of saying go away, we don’t know how to make our website work.

Try this workaround. It usually works.

    On your computer

    1. Clear your cookies and cache

    2. Open an InPrivate or Incognito window in your browser

    3. Go the X website

    4. In the upper right corner click the search icon and type in Cruise Critic Connections and enter

    5. Click on the right arrow next to the 1st search result.

    6. Type in your reservation number, email, name, ship and sail date, say a short fervent prayer, and click enter

thanks, I just tried this on a completely different computer that I have not used for the celebrity website. Tried 2 different browsers and even a VPN with no luck, same results.

    oh well

  4. I have been trying for a week to sign up for connections on their website and get the error “Cruise Critic Registration is not allowed for bookings in a status other than booked”

I have emailed the address supplied on the celebrity page (connections@celebrity.com) as well as the address I got from the celebrity representative on the phone (connections@celebritycruises.com) and both emails were returned as undeliverable.

the representative said that last night 11/16-17, they did an update to their website and today they were working on on fixing the problems their update has caused. That does not solve my issue though. Now I have emailed Celebrityonetouch@celebrity.com for a resolution and so far that email has not been returned  so we’ll see if that gets anywhere.

The injustices to that community - whatever they are - should not affect the other 300 million plus US citizens who want to travel where they want. To my knowledge, no one is forcing those US citizens to go to Cuba or support Cuba in any way.

My response was based on a political post earlier that basically said this was the right thing to do for political reasons. I respectfully disagree.

I don't like discussing politics either, but this was a political decision that has a real impact on cruising, which is the purpose of this board.

Wow, that says a lot. It’s too bad that the injustices of that community interfere with the vacation plans of people with your mindset. I hope that you are never in “that community “.

  6. We had our (anthem DD for 6) reservations that were made prior to our cruise mysteriously canceled. We rebooked with times we then had to settle on and they still screwed them up. Yes, they are happy to help you try to fix them while you take time from your vacation on board.

Others in line were there to fix similar reservation problems. I don’t know if it’s only Anthem or if this problem is spread over other ships but it would be nice if RCI would fix it.

  7. What are people plugging into power strips?

We don’t need a power strip on board since almost everything I need to plug in is for charging USB devices. I have a charger that I can plug in 5 USB devices.

However I do sometimes have a need for a power inverter (on land, not on the ship) that was in my carryon that they decided I couldn’t have so I had to go back and get it after the cruise. That was an expensive item so I wasn’t going to abandon it. Now since most chargers can handle the different voltage requirements, I only need the plug adapter. I also carry a very small traveler power strip to use at airports that also has a USB port on it. I have now learned to hide these items well enough so I haven’t had them removed.

    Don't put them in carryon.

  8. My wife and I are booked on the Anthem (17 Apr 2017). At this time we are set-up for 8:30 Classic 2 and on a waitlist for Classic 1 6:00PM. I am wondering if it would be to our advantage to ask for Dynamic Dinning and make our own dinning reservations in the future and try to get the 5PM dinning. Thanks.

You can give it a try but it's likely that DD is booked as well.

  9. From reading about people's experiences lately, I'm not too surprised. After our cruise last month, we've decided that we are going to look at other lines.

I've always felt that RCI was a good value. We've been on lines that offer a higher level of quality, but we were happy with the price/quality of RCI, until our last cruise. We still have one more RCI cruise booked, maybe they will redeem themselves.

  10. Just don't make changes in your planner on line - it might wipe out your previous reservations. It happened to me - the most disturbing thing was explained - glitch in RC system. Lucky you still have booking....

That happened to me with dinner reservations. When I called to fix it, they said the time was no longer available. I tried again after a week and was lucky to get it.

Since we usually have several reservations linked together, I can never successfully make dinner reservations on line.

They know their web site is terrible but don't seem to care. They would rather waste a lot of time on the phone with us I guess.

  11. Use a cruise planner specialist TA , much diffrent than just a TA.

yeah, did that. We'll be glad when we're done with him. Maybe he's been doing this too long, I don't think his heart is on any longer.

Actually we booked another cruise with someone else that was not a cruise planner and she was much better. I agree though, using a cruise planner should be better.

  12. I have 3 cruises b2b in Dec, and just checked the package prices.

$60 AUD for the beer package, or $95 AUD for the unlimited.

Even the Royal Replenish is now $40 a day.

The Aussie dollar is crapl at the moment, but I am pretty sure the prices have gone up since I last checked a month ago...

24 nights cruising at those prices, Royal Caribbean, you have lost another drinks package cruiser.

    Complete and utter Ripoff

I believe that at least compared to my local prices, RCI drinks are expensive.

BUT, I just returned from Australia and from what I saw in Melbourne and Sydney (except for wine) the RCI prices are pretty good, even at liquor store prices. I know my comparison is not scientific but for example, at 2 package stores, one in each city, a fifth of fireball was over $50. I pay less than $15 here. harveys bristol cream was about twice what I pay.

I don't know why but besides the exchange rate, you guys must have some hefty taxes on alcohol. Your law makes must be wine drinkers since those prices were pretty good.
