$500. We bid $600 on both cabins and got the upgrades. Saved $2500 off list price on each room.

Thank you. We are in a mini suite for our November sailing and I keep hoping I can find enough money in case we get the upgrade bid offer. Unlikely, but I can dream 😁

We bid $100 over minimum and received our notification at 70 days out. We went from aft balcony to Haven aft penthouse. It’s not very common, but it can happen. Our sailing wasn’t sold out at that point and prices didn’t drop too much because it was a holiday sailing. In our situation, I think it had more to do with the room we were in.

    What was the minimum bid?

Departing on the Getaway on Saturday.  Received email first thing this morning (Thursday) that my bid was accepted.  Going from a mini-suite large balcony to a Haven 2 bedroom.  Bid was in upper-poor range.  Before the cruise "disappeared" and showed sold out on NCL, there were about 35 open cabins in the Haven.

What was the bid if you don’t mind me asking?

and all the chicken wings you can eat in the pub. you get 6 per order, but you can order all you want. also the pub has a very good breakfast.

Well this will pretty much seal the deal for my son.

For the BA & BA Plus Class of ships (Breakaway, Getaway, Escape, Joy, Bliss, Encore), a standard balcony or mini-suite that sleeps 4 will have the bed near the balcony and the sofa-bed/pullman near the closet.

The 11794 setup on Escape is the same way.

If a standard balcony or mini-suite sleeps 3, the bed can be either near the balcony or near the closet and the sofa-bed is where the bed isn't (no pullman).

    Thank you!

I *think* that Moderno is $27 per person? Much cheaper then the one in my home town! And, yes, it's unlimited meat along with an amazing salad bar, unlimited sides, and these delicious cheese bread bite things.

Well that settles it, I need to bring stretchy pants ! I would happily pay that one night for the experience.

    Thank you

We love both Carnival and NCL, but one of the things we prefer on NCL is the variety of the restaurants. For instance, most NCL ships have a (extra-cost) French restaurant and Brazilian steakhouse. There is NOTHING like that on any Carnival ship I've been on. Even if you don't feel like paying extra, all NCL ships have a pub serving cooked-to-order pub food in the evenings (cheeseburgers, fish & chips, etc). Again, Carnival has nothing like this.

Yeah, I am getting more and more excited as I read more on these boards. Humidor cigar room? Yes please!

I cant wait for the pub and having a few cold beer in 5’oclock somewhere as I am kinda a buffet fan...I know,  hard to tell.

The Brazilian steakhouse intrigues me. The last one I went to on land was unlimited meat, same on NCL? And do you happen to know the price?

    Thanks for all the help.

I feel like this is definitely a step up from Carnival for us.

The bid per person is for the entire cruise, not per day. It also paid for double-occupancy, no matter how many people you have in your cabin. So it's always double the bid. Meaning if you bid $50, you will pay $100 whether you are sailing solo or you have four people in your room.

If you are originally in a mini-suite, you will be able to bid on all Haven categories. Minimum bids will be far more than $50 per person though. More likely about $400 per person for the lowest Haven category.

Thank you. Not sure something like that would be worth it for me. As a Canadian, that is an additional 25-27% higher as well after the exchange.  I am ok in the mini suite. We usually sail with an inside cabin, so this is already quite an upgrade.

Once you reach 80 days out there is the option to bid on upgrades on your My NCL page.  This is available if you book directly with NCL or if your TA participates in the program.  There is a limit to the category of cabin you can bid on... I believe you can bid on up 2 levels from the category you are in.  IE if you're in an inside you can bid on oceanview and balcony categories.

    Linda

Thank you. When I see people say that they bid $50 pp is that for the total cruise or per day extra?

I am in a mini suite, so I need to check what would be 2 above that. Would love the haven, but I think my bank would recognize me when I tried robbing it 👍

  10. We are going on the escape in November after 6 on Carnival and I have heard about the nickel and dimming, so I am trying to do as much research as possible so I know what exactly is free and what costs extra. This way we can plan ahead for what we want. We have the free drink package and will definitely get the value for that even with the taxes.

Question - did anyone who sailed go to the Humidor cigar room? How busy was it and how easy to get a drink to bring in?

As as for shows, we want to see both After Midnight and Choir of man. Is there a limit to what you can pre book?

the added costs are the pay restaurants,( the main DR are fantastic , but  we mostly skip the pay ones except for special occasion), photos, the bars and soda ( if you don't buy the package), stuff like that are all extra and typically a couple of the shows require $. ( we love the free shows in the theatre too)

We make our show and shore excursions reservations online asap ( I believe its 90 days prior to sailing) because some fill up SO fast. We like to eat at 5p so we can make the 7p shows, so we reserve the dining times as Weill.  Have fun and welcome to NCL!! 😉

    Thank you!

So, I can reserve the Broadway show online ahead of time. Perfect! And if you don’t set dining times, can you simply show up whenever?

We we got the drink package free with the booking so I can’t wait for that. Mid ship mini suite is what we booked as my wife loves a balcony.

Do you pay for the escape room game or games like deal or no deal?

Sorry for for all the questions

  12. Hello,

after 6 cruises on Carnival, we are trying our first on NCL on the Escape out of NY in November.

Carnival seemed so straight forward with what was charged and what wasn’t.

    1. So what things have added costs?

    2. How do you reserve the broadway shows? Before you cruise? Day of? Ect...

I think that is it for now. Thanks for the help!

  13. Hello, we are cruising out of NY for the first time in November. We are driving from Toronto and will come the day before and would like to experience Times Square and perhaps a broadway show the night before.

Are there any hotels that offer parking during the cruise or are my options get a hotel and park at cruise terminal.

I dont think it would be convenient to stay in Jersey considering what we would like to do, but maybe I am wrong.

    Thoughts?
