  1. I haven’t been able to cruise since the beginning of the pandemic, but I am SO looking forward to going! Anyway, I always book a cabin as a single.  I’ve never been on a ship that has single cabins, but I’d probably still want a balcony cabin.

That said, I don’t understand being charged an additional 50% or 100% as a single when so many cruise lines offer “second guest cruises free”.  Makes no sense to me that as a single, I pay more than a “BOGO” cabin!

    Can you help me understand?

If any of you other folks who are boarding on Sunday would like to get together and exchange pleasantries along with hygiene tips, please join us...we'll be the couple walking around in bubble wrap.

I, along with 7 friends, will be there, too. A bit nervous, but think this will be the cleanest ship on the ocean.  A couple of questions:

Do they bring extra help aboard tomorrow to aid in the deep cleaning?

wheres the best place to eat on embarkation day that isn’t a buffet?  Giovannini’s?

  3. Wow...I just found this thread as I, too, am a widow and want to start cruising again. I applaud you ladies who have lost their spouse so recently! It' s been about 3.5 years for me, and I am having a hard time deciding to do a solo cruise. I've cruised with a group of friends and even took an escorted tour solo, but I'm hesitant about cruising. I know I just need to "yank the bandage off" and reading all your posts is helping me come to a decision.

NC's Epic sounds great. DH and I sailed Celebrity almost exclusively, and I think I need a change of venue.

Thank you all who have posted to help me get out there!

  4. Good Morning!

Some friends and I just got off Carnival's Paradise (great!), which had a stop in Grand Cayman.

Two other friends and I had planned on going on a Turtle Farm excursion, but it didn't work out. None of us realized/remembered that Grand Cayman was a tender port, and we would need to catch our tender at 7:30 or so to make our excursion. But, for medical reasons, one of our party could not leave the ship that early.

So, my question is: is there anywhere else in the Caribbean that offers a similar excursion?

Or, is there a cruise line that stays in Grand Cayman long enough to offer a later excursion, such as 11:00 or later?

    Thanks in advance,

    Ellen

  5. Oh boy, not what I want to hear. I hope someone out there may have more info on the subject. Perhaps the cruise line has more insight on this matter. Seems a bit unreasonable to me.

Why do you think anyone here would have more information than the Canadian Customs website?

I suggest you call a Canadian Embassy or Consulate. Better yet, have the person with the DUI call.

Here's a link to the Embassy in Washington, D.C.:

  6. Royal,

I see you live in or near FLL. DH & I will be driving down from Central FL the day of our Holland America cruise, 11/14. I was planning on parking at the terminal, but a friend who cruises frequently said its better/cheaper to park off termnial. Shuttles can be a PITA, but my friend suggested first dropping our luggage off, and then going to the parking lot. When we return, we would just call the parking lot once we got our luggage, and the shuttle would come for us.

Can you suggets a off-site parking lot, or are we better off just parking at the terminal?

    TIA,

    Ellen

  7. How do you know for sure the TA even checked with HAL??

When she called me, she said she had HAL on the other line. She said HAL does not offer OBCs or price reductions after final payment. Not much I could do but take her at her word.

It appears others have had different experiences.

    Oh, well, such is life...

  8. No luck.:( My Ta called and said the only thing would have been an cabin upgrade, but since we have a specific SZ cabin, we passed.

Like others have said, doesn't hurt to ask.

I'm not unhappy - still going on a great cruise in the cabin we want!

  9. I have a package paid for, but have been told that only a limited number are available per cruise. The cost for a 29 night cruise for us was US$670 for double. It may not be a GREAT bargain, but the laundry/tea/etc is good for us and also heaps cheaper than paying for a Suite. I'm still unsure when we get to select drink choices, but assume it will be once we board. Am becoming excited now as only 2 weeks of waiting remain...:D:D It has been a long 15 months.

I guess this "limited number" may be why I can't find these packages anymore. I'm booked on the 11/14/11 Zuiderdam, and the packages were listed just a few days ago, but not anymore:(

  10. Let's see if I have this rigtht:

    NCL for LA to Vancouver

    Overnight in Vancouver

    Princess for Vancouver to Seattle

    NCL for Seattle Roundtrip

I think you would be ok because you are not doing back to back cruises which would take you from LA to Seattle.

Besides...with two different cruise lines, it is doubtful that they would catch it.

Scenerios like this are the really stupid things that the C&BP need to look at instead of the time spent in ports!

I, too, did not take the time to read through all the posts, but this one, and the one it is responding to needs some clarification.

The "Jones Act" does not apply to individuals. It applies to foreign-flag carriers, such as airlines and cruise lines. The Act prohibits these foreign carriers from carrying passengers domestically - that is, within the United States. As an example, you cannot fly Air Canada between Orlando and New York, even if Air Canada stops in NY on it's way from Orlando to Toronto.

CBP is a political animal, like every other Federal agency, and is looking at the PVSA because pressure has been brought to bear by some politician, who, no doubt, is working on behalf of some domestic business group.
