You can take the Silver Line for free from Logan Airport. Depending on the amount of stuff you have, you could walk from Silver Line Way about 15 minutes (hard with lots of luggage) or take it all the way to South Station and switch to the SL2 to go out to Dry Dock at the Design Center. That's about a five minute walk.

There are also water taxis - I haven't taken them, but it's another option.

Thanks for responding.  Have you ever used taxis?  Any recommendations as we will have a suitcase each and 2 carryon (total 4)?

I live in Boston (and used to live walking distance to the cruiseport). You might have better luck with Lyft or Uber than with a cab in Boston, but all are available. Olde Towne Trolley is the most prevalent hop on hop off bus, and they have a stop near the cruiseport (although you may want to double check for your sailing date). Harpoon Brewery is very close to the port and a fun visit, as well.

What is the best means of transportation from the cruise port to Boston airport besides ship transfer?  Is the cost comparable to what the cruise line charges $29 pp?

  3. Does anyone have a recommendation on picking up a rental car for a one day rental from the ports at Hilo, Hawaii and for another day at the Nawiliwili Harbor, Kauai?  It seems most of the rental cars need to be picked up at the airports.

Has the name of the Cruise Director and other officers not listed above been released?  If so, please provide.  Thank you.  If you prefer, you may email me at obxcl328 at gmail dot com.

Thanks so much for the info.  Looking forward to our cruise.

You will not find local guides in Cobh.

We're doing a British Isles cruise in August.  I've got some private tours booked.  But are there local guides for hire at the cruise ship ports looking to show the sites?  Specifically at Guernsey, Glasgow, Invergordon and Cork?

Thank you in advance for all responses.

We will be in the British Isles in June 2019.  In Cobh (Cork), I have booked a private tour with Paul Kealy. For St Peter's Port, we have booked a private tour with Mich as well as a private tour in Invergordon. If you would like to contact them, please email me at obxcl328 at gmail dot com.

Taxis are probably your best bet. The HoHo (two different companies) will cover these, but with traffic, timing will be unreliable. We found Kilmainham Gaol fascinating, albeit heavy, and one of the highlights during our Dublin stay (we were there prior/post cruise.) Please make sure you book in for a tour in advance ... they book up and it's rare to get in on a walk up basis.

The Storehouse is also a neat visit although it can be quite busy during season. Another place you'll want to book in advance. If you are a beer lover (DH is, me not so much,) check out the Connoisseur Experience - a bit pricey but worth every Euro!

Would be happy to answer any other questions.

Any suggestion on who to book with?

  9. Here is the next group of visuals from yesterday. More will be coming after we do breakfast in the main dining room and the 10 am program on what we will see on Devil's Island, its unique history and background. His title is something like "Hell in Paradise"!

    THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio

    Hi TLCOhio,

Enjoying all your posts and photos.

I have not had any luck in finding a taxi company in Macapa to respond to me. Have you visited here? Do you have any leads for a reliable taxi to take us to Marco Zero?

  10. Appreciate these questions, comments and follow-ups. YES, Devils Island is fairly easy to do yourself with simple "walking around". But, it can be fairly hot. Keep researching and planning. We very much enjoyed both Boca da Valeria and Parintins.

For Boca da Valeria, I knew from reading these Cruise Critic boards to bring pens and pencils and others items to share with these children in this village. I also had a good friend with Bath and Body in Columbus who got me some small samples of their products to take and deliver here. When arriving in Boca da Valeria, I first visited the school to deliver these to the school teacher. From a TV station in Columbus, Ohio, they gave me some small balls, plus four larger, blow-up plastic balls.

For Parintins on Tupinambarana Island, we had great fun and excitement. Parintins is situated in the largest river archipelago of the mid-Amazon. This area is rich in centuries-old Indian culture and celebrates an annual “Boi Bumba” festival. The yearly folkloric festival, considered second only to Carnival in Rio, is held in June. For cruise ship visitors, the townspeople re-enact this festival for visitors throughout the year. Not cheap, but nice memories. Many visuals on my live/blog. Post any added questions on that location.

    THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio

Enjoyed a 14-day, Jan. 20-Feb. 3, 2014, Sydney to Auckland adventure, getting a big sampling for the wonders of "down under” before and after this cruise. Go to:

    http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1974139

for more info and many pictures of these amazing sights in this great part of the world. Now at 209,096 views for this posting.

Thanks. What is the link to your live blog please?

  11. Boca da Valeria is definitely a DIY. (Bring dollar bills as the locals will be posing with various creatures and expect a tip. Small items, such as candy and supplies for their school are also appreciated.) I cannot give you any advice about the other ports, some of which I have not visited.

    Thanks

  12. Hello, I have read your posts and thank you for sharing. We will be cruising the Amazon in November 2018. There are several ports I am trying to find out if one is able to "Do it yourself". If so, what is the distance from the port to the "highlights"? These include: Devils Island, French Guiana, Macapa, Brazil, Boca da Valeria, Parintins, Scarborough, Tobago, and Santo Domingo? Any insight to these ports would be appreciated.

  13. I booked beforehand a tour with a German speaking guide, but there were several local people at the pier, were I'm sure one or the other would have spoken english...

We went to see the same Waterfall and the same rum distillery as OP.

But then we went also to the other part of the island and drove to St.Anne and the Castle Point. It took us 7 hours and the cost was 195 Euro for the three of us (to give you a price to expect). You should have Euros with you (the might except US, but they will be much happier with Euros).

For more informations (or if you speak german, I could even give to the

homepage and e-mail of our guide) just write me.

Gouadeloupe is probably one of the safest, richest and cleanest islands in the caribbean.

GO OUT AND EXPLORE this beautiful Island.

Please provide information on the tour guide/company you used to me at obxcl328 at gmail dot com (that is an L before the 3) We will be there in November 2018
