  1. Hi. I was heartened to read that Grand Cayman was opening up again. I was scheduled to dock on 30th March on Marella Explorer 2.

I was looking forward to a nice beach day but my hopes were dashed when I received notification of cancellation of the port. We'll now be staying for an overnight in Montego Bay.

Do you think there's still a chance or is it a definite no once they advise so?

    Cheers,

  2. Hi Pete,

Definitely helpful! Thank you so much.

These reviews often tend to be somewhat biased and used as a format for the author to bleat about how privileged they are in the Owners Suite, or how xxxx (fill in as required) is the best cruise line in the world, which is essentially why they have had 200 cruises with them, all terrific, without any issues (oh really!).

Pete, you gave, IMO, an honest review of your findings. 'Warts and all' as you say, and quite right too. It was refreshing and informative. Your photographic additions were terrific ingredients to the overall experience.

Mrs. K and I have sailed with Princess, P&O, Norwegian, Celebrity. We have enjoyed all, but there is always something that perhaps others will benefit from knowing beforehand. This is our first sail with MSC. I looked forward to it at booking but even more so after your review.

    Thank you.

  3. Pete, if you get a chance, could you possibly check how the passengers pay to play the slot machines in the casino? i.e. insert your cruise-card to play? or cash only (and if so which currency?}? I did ask this on the general MSC board but had mixed responses and Mrs. Kernel does like to spin the reels a touch :D

If you could confirm if you're passing the casino. If that's not your bag, no problem, I'm sure I'll find out shortly!

    Cheers :beer-toast:

  4. Thanks everyone!

I think chinita415 came closest to the answer, so she wins the prize (can't tell you all what it is as you'll all be after one!), ;p

1fifthavenue came a close 2nd, so only comp rooms and baseball cap for that I guess....:beer-toast:

    Conclusion?

Once anyone plays the slots, the flashing lights, the bells, toots and hoots, along with the highly watchable videos mesmerise us. We are all hypnotised. Oblivious to all and everything. Once done with playing an imbedded program kicks in that removes all memory of the time spent playing. It can be the only conclusion :'). Don't you agree?

I thank you all dearly x

If however anyone was wearing an aluminum hat and dark glasses (to prevent the aforesaid brainwashing) during play, please feel free, anonymously of course (to prevent future cruise line banning) to tell me if I can put in my card and play the slots (I, obviously, do take the necessary head/eye precautions :D:D:D)

I promise I will keep it a secret.

    Best regards,

    (dark glasses) Kernel x

  5. Hi again. Thanks for all the input, but I think we've gone off-question a bit: comped rooms, free drinks and baseball-caps? I'll go to Vegas for those thanks :D

The question essentially was: can I insert my cruise card into a slot-machine and play? Or do I need cash (if so, which currency please? Anyone played the slots on MSC who can assist please?

    Thanks again,

    Kernel

  6. Hi all.

Quick question on the casino on Fantasia (possibly the same for all MSC) if anyone could enlighten please.

We are sailing on Fantasia shortly and my wife does like to invest a few dollars (or indeed Euros) into the slot machines.

My question, if you could assist, is this: how do you 'pay' for your spins on MSC? I ask this for on previous cruises we have popped in our cruise-card, 'invested' our cash , and played the machine. With the cost being applied to our onboard account. Normally ending with discussions later on how close we got to 'the big one' :D. However, on our last cruise (Celebrity) we had to insert dollar bills, which, being a European cruise, were in somewhat short supply . USD were availiable at the cash-desk - for a 5% 'fee'

So, do I need a wad of Euros? Or can I be content that our cruise-card will suffice?

    Many thanks.
