My daughter is in kindergarten and food generally falls into 2 categories: Things she can't eat, and things she won't eat.

Does anyone have good knowledge of how being celiac on a cruise is as far as options go? My daughter eats a lot of plain rice with soy sauce or hoisin (gluten free obviously), does anyone know if they stock things like that?

My husband is a very sensitive Celiac and he loves cruising on NCL.  They were always able to offer anything he wanted in a GF option.  He doesn't preorder but has never had a problem getting a meal he loves and has not had any reactions.

  2. My luggage tags on the Azamara web site mention the opportunity to order personalized Bag Tag Mailers  by going to www.azamara.com but I don't see these anyplace on the Azamar website.  Anyone know what these are and if/how I could get them?

  3. I am sure this question must have been asked before, but I have searched the spreadsheet and can't find the answer.  Does Azamara provide lotion along with the shampoo and bath soap in each cabin?

I just noticed the "Destination Celebration" on my Voyage Planner for my 12 JUL cruise.  Do I need to "add to cart" to register for the experience? Thank you!

Yes.  You book it like you would an excursion but it comes up zero cost.

  5. Sailing Azamara for the first time.  We will be on the Quest in August sailing out of Dublin.  We board on August 20 but don't sail until the evening of August 21.  Does anyone know if Azamara allows us to leave the ship the first evening so that we can explore Dublin (since we won't sail out until the next evening)?

    Thanks.

Looking to hear what people’s experiences were being in a balcony mini suite mid-Ship on the Star on deck 11.  I’ve noticed above on deck 12 , the pool and buffet are right above these rooms and worry about noise all night.  Thanks in advance for your reviews/opinions.

We were in cabin 11092 In November this year and the noise in the early morning and late at night was irritating. I think it was accuse the crew stacking the deck chairs for the night and then taking them down again around 5 am. We had rough seas and the ceiling creaked very loudly all night long.

I have been using the patch for almost 40 years. It makes travel possible for me. It makes me drowsy when I first put on the patch so I always put a new one on at night. That way I get a great night's sleep. This is especially useful the night before a trip when I would probably be up all night fretting over what I forgot to pack.

Of course, no shipboard doctor would prescribe the patch. This would mean he would have to go through your medical history and prescription history. They sure don't have the time or the interest to do that with every person who gets motion sickness on a cruise.

Best advice, talk to your personal physician and decide what is best for you. And, don't touch your eyes after putting on a patch. I did that once and learned my lesson. Karen

I also use the patch but remove it when in land. I also cut it in half. I get motion sick watching television so the patch is a lifesaver for me when cruising.

  8. We booked a precruise hotel in Venice through NCL which includes a shuttle to the port. Does anyone know if we can just send our luggage on the shuttle without us boarding the shuttle? We want to spend a couple more hours in Venice and the shuttle picks up at 11 but the ship doesn't leave until 5:30.  We are hoping we can send our luggage to the ship without the need to go with it.

Have a great cruise!  We just debarked Star on 8/11.  Had a wonderful cruise, and this was a great itinerary, imho.   We flew direct from JFK into Marco Polo, took a private water taxi right to our hotel dock (Hotel Canal Grande - amazing but pricey) and had 24 hours in Venice before we boarded the Star.   Can hopefully help if you have any questions about Star, ports, embarking, debarking, etc.  We also did tons of research before our cruise, as we always do.

Does NCL provide  shower gel or shampoo in the cabins? We are on the Star in November.

Thanks. We are at 56 days and still don't have any flight information. I will keep waiting😐

Our flight placeholder disappeared at around 100 days out. We are now 53 days out and nothing shows on our NCL page. Is the typical? I have seen many references to the placeholders and I am growing concerned.

I received an email to the account associated with my NCL cruise. You can also keep checking your edocs and look for the "Air Itinerary Confirmation" section. (Mine was on page 4).

At 75 days out we were notified of our flights.  Our return flight was horrible.  Even though we have a PCC with NCL I called the air department myself.  I did wait for 45 minutes before connecting with a very nice representative. I politely explained to her our problem and she gave us the perfect flights I had researched without even asking her for them.  It took about 2 weeks for the change to be reflected in our edocs.  At 48 days out the reservation was actually ticketed and we were able to make a minor seat change through the airline's website even though our original seat assignments were fine.

I'm wondering if you are trying to make a change after NCL has already paid the airline.  Since the reservation is really only on "hold" with the airline until they receive payment perhaps that is why were we able to change because we were in that "window" between original notification at 75 days and final ticketing at 48 days.

I have often heard that when dealing with "customer service" for any business, if you don't like the answer you receive the first time, call back and speak to someone else.  You may get a different answer from a different representative. It's worth a try.

Good luck.  I know we would have been miserable had we been stuck with our original itinerary.

How did NCL notify you of the flights?  I don't want to miss the communication.  We are 58 days out and we were told we wouldn't have flights until 30-45 days out.

Yes we did this excersion 5 days ago on the NCL Epic.  It was good but pricier than independent tours. Yes, we were hurded into a shop in Sorrento for some wood inlay viewing! We politely looked about before getting pizza and wine next door at a nice cafe. Our guide, Roberto recommended it.... He was funny and knowledgeable.  We had some free time to walk around.  Pompeii was a bit rushed.  We only saw about a quarter of it, missing the museum totally. Then after a short break at "his niece's lemonade stall" we were hurded to a cameo factory for more "guided shopping".  We didn't get to view Positano. I would recommend the tour if you aren't overly bothered about seeing all of Pompeii.

thank you for the tour review. As Pompeii is my main focus I am glad I have time to research other options.

    Day 1

I think our plan for this day is to maybe wander around for a bit and grab something for breakfast before we check out. I plan to then check in at the ship or at least drop off our luggage before we head back out to explore.

There are a few museums we might check out. Mom and I have both been to Venice before and that included visiting Doge’s Palace so we may or may not elect to do that again. However, as we have almost 3 full days in Venice, we think it will be a good deal for us to get the Venice Museum Pass: One Reservation which includes 11 museums for 32€. This includes Doge’s Palace, Correr Museum, the Archaeological Museum, Monumental Rooms of the Marciana Library, Ca ‘Rezzonico, Palazzo Mocenigo, Casa di Carlo Goldini, Ca’ Pesaro, Murano Glass Museum, Burano Lace Museum and the Museum of Natural History. This allows one entry to each museum and no waiting in line. Seems like a good deal to me if you aren’t so pressed for time that you have to choose just one. We plan to go through a museum or two before heading to the ship.

Once on board there will be the obvious necessities of exploring, unpacking, muster and dinner. BUT I also got my mom and I spa passes. I know many people would not think it would be worth it for such a port intensive cruise but the reality is that while we’re in port every day, we’re also only in port for a few hours each day. Also, the spa on the Star is located on one of the highest decks and at the front of the ship which should make it a good place for viewing sail in/sail out from each of our ports. Plus the passes were actually cheaper than they generally are ($145 CAD) so it seemed like a good deal to me.

    Day 2

I’m a little bit bummed to hear that we might not end up making it to Kotor. Montenegro would be a new country for me and is probably one I’m unlikely to go out of my way to get back to again in the future. If we do make it to Kotor our plan is to climb the wall and/or wander Old Town. From what I understand it’s only a few euros (3) to climb the wall so it shouldn’t be an expensive day excursion wise. Worst case scenario we’ll really get our money’s worth out of that spa pass!

    Day 3

This is another day we don’t have overly exciting plans for. We intend to just wander around Old Town in Corfu. While they’re out of date, I highly recommend taking a look at Tom’s Port Guides for some of these European ports. The great thing about Europe is that things like ruins and old fortresses don’t tend to up and move over time so the must-see sites will always be wherever they are making even old maps and guides somewhat useful. Obviously you should compare with online current information, but in our case we’re not too caught up in what we intend to see in this port so it won’t matter if we get a bit lost. Anyone have any recommendations for Corfu? I’ve seen some pretty mixed reviews about the Achilleon Palace, would you recommend? Is it something you need a tour to appreciate? If so, what do you suggest?

    Day 4

I am so excited about Santorini! I’ve been to Greece before but only Crete (highly recommend, especially if you’re on a budget) and Athens. Santorini is the epitome of Greece in my mind and I can’t wait to take it all in. I’ve read that it can be a really long line to get up the gondola especially when there are lots of ships in port as there will be when we’re there. So mom and I are hoping to take a speedboat over to Oia (which we wanted to see anyway) and then take a bus back to Fira.

Can anyone give me some info about this option? Do we have to book it ahead of time or will there just be speed boats there for hire? How much will this cost?

Here’s what I’ve found in terms of the schedule for the bus to Fira and the gondola schedule:

    Bus Schedule: 07:10 , 08:50 , 09:35 , 10:20 , 10:50 , 11:20 , 11:50 , 12:20 , 12:50 , 13:20 , 13:50, 14:20 , 14:50 , 15:20 , 15:50 , 16:20 , 16:50 , 17:20 , 17:50 , 18:20 , 18:50 , 19:20, 19:50,  20:20, 21:20, 22:15 (2€)

    Gondola: From 7:00 til 22:00 every 20 mins. (5€)

I'm so excited that we're going to get to be in port for sunset! I’ve made a reservation at a restaurant called Argo for dinner. It looks like it has good reviews, proper Greek food and spectacular views. It also happens to be located right at the top of the donkey trail.  I’m really looking forward to this as I LOVE Greek food. Our plan is to be able to catch the sunset at the restaurant before heading back toward the gondola. I know there will likely be quite a line to get back down but if we’re headed back by 8 or so I think we’ll be safely on board well before 9:30.

    More to follow!

you mention on day one that you might check in on the ship them go back out. Can we do that? I had assumed that once you went through all of the check in and security that you couldn't leave and come back. Very interested to know if you have done this bef ore.
