  1. If they change to Coral Sea it makes it a bit closer to walk into town. We are just doing our own thing on each of the ports as we have just done Cairns, and our son was working there for quite some time so we have been to that area to the cape several times. Airlie beach I have not seen since 1983 so i just want to have a look around to check out the changes.

  2. We did the Hawaii, Tahiti  cruise last year 39 days and it was brilliant the Round Aus was totally different and as Aus Traveller has said dozens of scooters and wheelie walkers to force their way around. We had an emergency evac off WA moved close to Barrow Island. What the cost of that was I would not like to guess. They moved everyone from the top 2 decks aft out of their cabins. It was a huge event most of the ship was on the pool deck watching the spectacle, I got great video as well as a few photos.

We were told they were evacuated to Karatha the on to Perth. The Evans started in Cairns with 2 couples taken off another couple in Darwin. There was also ambulances on the docks in Broome & Freemantle. The rumour mill was running saying 3 had died but who knows.

    Cheers

We tendered to the Abell Point Marina (now known as the Coral Sea Marina) on Diamond Princess but know other ships have tendered at Port of Airlie on the other side of the town from the Marina.

Thanks Possum52 I haven't been to Airlie Beach since the early 80's it certainly looks different now. Looking at maps Coral Sea Marina would be the better option.

  4. We just got back from above cruise had a good time, however this certainly is an oldies tour (says me at 67) from Brisbane to Sydney we were amongst the youngest, from Sydney to Brisbane we were some of the oldest. What a change in dynamics we went from 4 seldom seen kids to 600 kids and the whole scene changed.

I have never seen so many grumpy hard to get on with bunch, than the ones on the Round Aus cruise, we had to get to each event an hour early to get a seat they would put the disabled tables down to hold seats ( we actually saw passengers doing it, not the staff). Our dining table got together after a while and would have a tag team holding our seats for the main shows. We would rush dinner and three of us would go straight down and spread out along a row then swap around till the show started. I would just take my book down and sit and read for the time. I would not recommend this trip to any young ones unless you were a group so you could interact together. The dance floors were very quiet after 8pm most nights.

Anyway it's off to NZ ON the 29th Dec ( my birthday) New year with with a few friends coming as well I think that this cruise will be a bit livelier.

    Cheers all Sav

I'm not having a lot of success with this post there were 4 other photos that were to be with these and the bottom one wasn't, a bit too blurry, but I  remember it being that blurry one night when I had several drinks.I moved to my tablet so I can read better. The phone is getting harder to read.

  6. I tried to send this the other night don't know what went wrong.

The Hollywood Pool and Conservatory are cost and children free it's not quite as separated as the Sanctuary but a good place to get away. When there, ask if Fletcher is still working he was a drinks steward and was a lot of fun, as soon as we walked in the door he would show us to an empty space and get our drinks without us asking. He informed us his family was on the BOUNTY thus his name. I said I didn't recall anybody from Goa on board. Fletcher Murray, very Indian in appearance not even a Portuguese name but a great steward all the same.

We just got a great cruise sent to us Shanghai  to Japan to Shanghai 8 days a mini suite $2000 return to Brisbane on the Majestic. So jumped in and we are off on the 17 August. Then we are home for 2 weeks and off on the Sea Princess Around Australia. We were told by the staff at Princess that they did not do Drop and Go in Australia, however they emailed us yesterday with a d&g package. We tried to get our friends onto it but they had all gone within an hour of us reserving the cabin. We rang our cruise consultant who grabbed our reservation and formalised the booking but she was unable to get our friends on. That will now be 6 cruises up to November 2020.

    Good cruising all

Well we are back great cruise, Japan is great only problem too short a visit, I would not go again from Shanghai, hated it, perhaps if we were able look around a bit it may have been differant. 600 screaming kids did not help, school holidays in China, we found that if we stayed away from all the main events it was fine the ship was big enough to do that. The Hollywood Pool area was our sanctim great staff and no kids. Our first mini suite was great I could get to like that if the price is right. Now waiting till Oct 5 for Sea Princess to pick us up in Brissy for Round Aus cruise.

  8. Hi all,

Who said you don't get upgrades we have had 2 so far from MF up to MC then to now MB suites, the MC was directly over the theatre left side so we thought ok go to bed later and grin and bare it. We got an email today to say we are on Riviera mid front where we like to be. Only trouble is printing out 3 sets of tags and stuff but It's only trees. It looks like we have just missed the 2 typhoons as well so fingers crossed. We have also got the day trips sorted and the train looks like the way to get around in Tokyo, doing an excursion to Mt Fuji and another to Kyoto and then our own thing again in Kochin.

I'll give you a run down on how it went in a fortnight.

    Cheers

I find Tokyo really easy to get around. They have an excellent train service and most of the stations have good maps posted around the station.

One thing that is great to do is to go to to the Hamariku Gardens, which are a short walk from the Shiodome station which, in turn, links from Shimbashi Station by an above ground walkway. After exploring the gardens take the ferry (the ferry stop is at the far end of the gardens) to Asakusa where the Senso-ji Temple, Hozomon Gate, and hundreds of tiny stores. It's one of the most popular tourist spots in Tokyo. From there you can take the metro back to the tour pick-up point or to another place you want to visit.

  10. Hi guys, Does anyone know of any private shore excursions from Yokohama, the best of the ships ones are booked out. We are on the waiting list, the problem with the late offer no doubt. How difficult is it to get around Tokyo we can get Tokyo on your own through the ship. I like these as we do our own thing once in whereever, we have done quite a few of these, but a bit worried about Tokyo, the place looks daunting, maybe I'm overreacting. Any assistance would be appreciated,

    Cheers

  12. Hi All,

So thank you to all that helped, 'PerfectlyPerth' I have joined the group you suggested but not any help with dates etc. It's all academic now we are IN, so no more chasing around.

  13. I have made up 3 folders for each cruise with photos, photos of slide dates & newspaper Shipping dates from Sydney and 1972 immigration stats that show the passengers that are disembarking along the way. The 1974 one Bris/Bris is the hardest as we can only track our Sydney shipping and not actually leaving/arriving in Brisbane. The Syd/Syd is 21 days so the Bris/Bris has to be the same. We were told that they are tightening up their acceptance of these older cruises and require more evidence to prove the dates. The Captains Circle rep on Sapphire P gave us some tips and ideas to put in as we had just given up and going with what we had. That is why we are trying to get this together.

Do you have any photos taken on your cruise?

I had one with the Captain on my 1988 Fairstar cruise and my Husband had a photo taken in front of the Oriana life bouy on his 1986 cruise and Princess accepted both.

We said mine was 9 days and his was 11 days and they accepted that as well.

Yes we have ship photographers photos of each cruise, we are just trying to get the dates correct as they have shortchanged us on the days. Our Princess rep is on holidays and we are trying to get as much info before she comes back. It adds up to 31 days and will give us Elite status.

  15. This may be something that has been done to death. We are trying to get some evidence together for Princess for our old P&O and Sitmar cruises on the above years. Not all our later cruises have been with Princess. If we get the correct dates it will put us over the days required for Elite. National Archives and Immigration do not hold data if your returning to Australia from a cruise. I have got Newspaper shipping arrivals & departures but only from Sydney, We embarked in Brisbane on the longest one and we cannot find the dates of the full cruise. Princess has given us 7days for each cruise however they were all more than that one being 21 days in 1974. They are quite happy to give us the correct days if we can get the proof. Has anyone travelled on Oriana November/December 1972, Fairsky September 1974 or Fairstar April 1991. Maybe someone has kept a bit more memorabilia that we did or does someone know where the heck you can get the info from.

We have also tried Lloyds in England to no avail.

I hope I'm not asking the wrong thing for this Board, if so just ignore. I also hope there is someone that can assist.

Or a nice Fox Trot or Waltz ? No room for those on the tender.

Boy have I started something!!!! I just checked my email and got the attached and thought, what the!!!

Foxtrot or waltz??? so had to read through to make sense of it all.

Did Singapore to Southampton in March on Sapphire P and they were still using the top deck on the tenders.

Our only worry is, what if it's a real rough day? I suppose I have seen enough of Sydney to just sit at the bar for the day and have a nice quiet few. We also do Sydney in October on Around Australia cruise, so maybe the bar is the way to go.
