Right, we had a couple of fantastic evenings on Britannia last May watching the brilliant house Jazz band in the Crystal rooms.

Such a relaxing spot on a busy ship.

We absolutely loved it, not being big jazz fans, just enjoyed watching the talented and not so talented dancers perform in front of a live band was a great experience.

They also played sessions in the Crows Nest.

    Thanks Andy! 🙂

No idea about Britannia but we were fortunate enough to be Aurora some years ago when Caravan had a jazz session in the crows nest one evening. It was absolutely superb and there wasn't a spare space to be had in the room, we were packed in like sardines. One particular musician in the group really stood out (Jesse), boy do I wish that I had talent like that.

I then read of another jazz evening on a different ship which by all reports wasn't so successful with large numbers of the audience walking out covering their ears. My thoughts were that the reports were probably exaggerated and the music simply wasn't to the taste of the writer. However two years ago we were again on Aurora and read in horizon that the resident band (not Caravan) would be playing jazz late one evening again in the crows nest lounge. This time it was modern jazz and it wasn't very long before we too were joining the long line of passengers leaving the lounge covering our ears and shaking our heads.

Sometimes P&O get the entertainment right but when they get it wrong they get it very wrong.

Jazz - hundreds of chords played to 3 or 4 people. Pop - 3 or 4 chords played to hundreds of people 😉

Oh, the photo above has just jogged my memory. One of the desk sockets is labelled ‘always on’....but then you wouldn’t leave anything charging when you had left the cabin, anyway.

Why not? I often leave my laptop charging when we're not at home, whats the difference on a ship?

We take all sorts of things as well - including magnetic clips (Ikea) - good for securing paperwork etc to the cabin wall and a champagne stopper.  We have now given up with the P&O biscuits and take our own.

Champagne stopper - good plan! Just added one to our suitcase 👍

I used a TP-Link TL-WR802N Wireless N Nano Router in the cabin on Azura last year. I am no computer technician but we were able to Login to the ship's wi-fi on one device then use the portable router as a hot spot to connect to the internet on other devices. It worked well.

I guess a smartphones hotspot facility would work in a similar manner?

Can’t believe the size of the screws in your glasses😂

Changed days. I bought my first SAK on board. It had a picture of Canberra marked on one side.

🙂 Check out the Victorinox Swisschamp. its a tiny grey one thats stored in the corkscrew. Perfect for specs! 👓

I'm not sure I understand why you would need to take a pen knife on holiday anyway, do you sit on your balcony whittling away to make a bow and arrow to shoot fish or something

There's always one, isn't there? Its my bottle opener, tin opener, tooth pick, nail scissors, glasses screwdriver, pencil sharpener etc, etc. THATS why I rather like having it to hand! 😡

Thanks for all the help... it seems to be a moving target. We're sailing from Southampton, I guess it's best to call P&O and get it from source...

Guess i should have looked here first:

Up to 4" is OK, mine is a shade under 2.75" so perfectly acceptable. I'm delighted, you never know when you're going to bump into a horse that needs a stone removing from its hoof! 🙂

For some reason the butlers look after the coffee machines and keep supplies of the Senseo coffee pods topped up. I doubt you’d run out because they’re topped up daily, but if you should he’ll soon bring some more.

Good news, thanks for the info! 🙂

They do, and it's one of the reasons we always have a suite. Saves a small fortune buying coffee on the ship.

We have a suite for the first time in September... are the stewards generous with pods? We generally manage 4 or 5 cups a day each.

  11. The screen in front of the drums is there to stop them bleeding into the vocal mics. It has nothing to do with Health and Safety. You will sometimes notice a circular screen around the sax or trumpet players microphone, this serves the same purpose.

Mixing live audio is all about compromise. There's a punter at every gig who can mix it better that the sound guy. For every punter that tells you that it's too loud, there's another who wants it louder. It's impossible to please everyone. One solution is to use a 'DFA' knob on the sound desk. You twiddle it according to the punters request and they usually go away happy. It's called DFA because it's not actually connected to anything. I'll leave you to ponder the acronym 😉
